00:00All right, I'll tell you guys the same thing I told our players after the game.
00:04It's like, number one, I don't believe in moral victories.
00:07I mean, at the end of the day, we lost five to three at home, and
00:09that's not something that we're ever gonna be okay with.
00:12We had kind of our guy on the mound, and
00:15you're going up toe to toe against a good team, there's no doubt.
00:19So we're never gonna be okay with that.
00:20But I saw something different in our kids than I've seen in the last four games,
00:23and that's the big thing that I told them after the game.
00:26The competitiveness was elite tonight.
00:28Those guys competed their tails off in the box.
00:31We didn't do that at Kentucky.
00:32We didn't compete like that at Kentucky.
00:33We didn't compete like that against South Alabama.
00:36We competed tonight.
00:37And end of the day, we didn't get it done, and
00:40nobody asked you really what that looks like.
00:42But as a guy that's been doing this for quite a while, I look up and
00:46if this team can show up and compete that way,
00:49we're gonna be just fine here when the dust settles.
00:52So end of the day, I thought we had two young arms, Sam Mitchell,
00:57Zane Probst, that threw the ball extremely well.
00:59I mean, Sam Mitchell has not gotten a lot of outings this spring.
01:02And I wanted to give him an opportunity.
01:04He's been working his tail off and came and gave us two really good innings.
01:07Kind of pitched around a mess there in the second, but
01:09gave us a good one.
01:10Zane Probst had a tough start to the year, there's no doubt.
01:12And that dude works harder than anybody on our team.
01:16And he comes in there and hangs two zeroes at the end and gives us a chance.
01:18We have to go ahead and run there in the eighth and get their closer in.
01:22I thought Hamby had a great at bat.
01:24I thought he had an awesome at bat.
01:25And just wasn't quite able to finish it.
01:28I thought Evan Sleight had an awesome at bat, just not quite able to finish.
01:31And I thought that was kind of the story of the night,
01:33is I thought our bats against Hayden Smith were outstanding.
01:36We just didn't quite finish them.
01:37That guy strikes out 15 dudes every time he goes out.
01:40I think he only punched us out five or six, seven times tonight,
01:43something like that.
01:44The problem was we would get too good counts, we would spoil pitches,
01:47we'd take pitches, and we just couldn't quite finish it.
01:49And he'd either get the punch or get a lazy fly ball or something.
01:53But I was proud of the effort, not happy with the result, but proud of the effort.
01:58And if we can show up and that's who we are when we put a uniform on,
02:01things are gonna go well for us a heck of a lot more than they don't.
