00:00 Welcome to BamaCentral.com. This is the Extra Point segment. I'm Will Miller here
00:04 with Matthew Gibson and it's baseball season at least at the college level. The
00:09 big leagues, the pros are currently in the heat of spring training with opening
00:14 day seemingly right around the corner but college baseball has been going on
00:17 for about a month now and the Alabama baseball team just had its first weekend
00:22 of SEC play against Tennessee. 17-3 through the first 20 games. It's
00:27 been a great start. Matthew, what have you seen from this team so far in the
00:31 month or so they've been playing? Well, one, I've just been impressed with how
00:35 much talent is on this actual team. I mean, Alabama has been waiting a long
00:38 time to get some guys that are genuine MLB talents and I think right now
00:43 Alabama has some guys like that. Whether you look at Ben Hess or LeBron,
00:47 there's just so many guys on this roster. Even guys like Gage Miller who's having
00:52 a fantastic year to start. Those guys are beginning to rise up some of those MLB
00:56 draft boards and for Alabama just kind of to open up SEC play and to take two
01:01 or three from the Tennessee, which is number five team in the country right
01:05 now. This is really impressive what Rob Vaughn has been able to do in his first
01:08 season. It is the first series win in SEC play for Rob Vaughn who was
01:14 hired this past summer after a turbulent time for the program and he's hit the
01:18 ground running. He's got an emphasis on people, bringing in the right
01:22 people. He's got the three pillars of toughness, ownership and grit and
01:27 he's got some guys that are bought into that even more than their talent
01:30 on the field, which appears to be pretty substantial. This is a team that's
01:33 steadily risen up the rankings. They played some tough competition. This
01:38 series was their best performance. They got kind of smacked in the mouth on
01:41 Friday, rebounded on Saturday and Sunday with a quality response at home.
01:45 Some big home games this year in conference play, but a lot of optimism
01:51 for a program that really needed a jolt and that's been evident so far,
01:57 not just in the talent, but in the culture. Yeah, and for me, I look at how
02:02 they take a loss versus Southern Miss right before conference play and then
02:06 you take another loss to Tennessee and you're kind of like, "Okay, well, they're beginning to
02:09 play some of those heightened competition type games," and then they take two more
02:13 at home from Tennessee. It's just really impressive what they've been able to do
02:16 and Gage Miller talked about it post-game. This is a team where there's
02:23 so many new faces. It's practically all new faces on this team, but they're going to be
02:27 able to come together and look like a real contender in the SEC now. If you're
02:31 an Alabama fan, you've got to be really pleased with the direction that this
02:35 program is heading. For Matthew Gibson, I'm Will Miller. Thank you for watching
02:39 The Extra Point.
