00:04Welcome to Ms. Mojo,
00:06and today we're counting down our picks for
00:08the drag race moments that had us
00:10questioning what was going on inside
00:12RuPaul's mind. Beware of spoilers
00:14ahead. That outfit off the rack
00:16was a huge
00:18disappointment to me.
00:22Number 10. The Baby Got Back
00:24Mini Challenge. So for today's mini
00:26challenge, you need to shake,
00:28rattle, and roll for Baby Got
00:30Back. Like the art form of drag
00:32itself, Drag Race has constantly
00:34pushed the envelope of what's appropriate.
00:36But this mini challenge had people wondering
00:38if it was time to leave the envelope alone for a little
00:40while.
00:42Now that's a queen who likes to
00:44pamper herself.
00:46In an apparent
00:48callback to a talk show improv challenge
00:50a few seasons before, the queens
00:52were asked to create a naughty baby character.
00:54Whoever misbehaved the most
00:56would win. But we'd say the viewers
00:58who conveniently forgot about the whole thing
01:00are the lucky ones.
01:08The rest of us have to wonder what audience
01:10Ru and the producers were trying to reach
01:12with this one. Number 9.
01:14Pearl Wins The Lip Sync Against Trixie Mattel
01:16First things first, we love Pearl.
01:18Without her, we wouldn't have gotten
01:20some of season 7's most iconic moments.
01:22But it has to be said. When she
01:24went up against a fan favorite in a lip sync
01:26to Blondie's Dreaming, the judging
01:28seemed awfully wonky.
01:30And it wasn't just because audiences were in their feelings
01:32about Trixie Mattel being eliminated.
01:44Many fans felt that
01:46Trixie's rendition just went with the song
01:48a lot more than her competitor's version.
01:50In fact, RuPaul even said that Blondie
01:52members Debbie Harry and Chris Stein
01:54preferred her lip sync.
02:02It seems Ru respectfully
02:04disagreed. Whatever anyone thinks,
02:06Pearl did bring us the iconic
02:08Pearl smash. And that's worth something.
02:16Too Many Acting Challenges
02:22Some of these girls
02:24look like their Shakespeare is gonna be
02:26shaky dear. Speaking of Pearl and
02:28Trixie, their season was truly
02:30stacked with talent. However,
02:32it must be said that it was a cast full of
02:34fashion-oriented queens in a season
02:36full of atrocious and nonsensical
02:38acting challenges. We're not looking for
02:40Pulitzer-worthy scripts here, but
02:42this even stretched the limits of sketch comedy.
02:44Hey, Hogwarts rejects, what's your
02:46prediction?
02:48If I'm not here cheerleader, it's truly
02:50fanfiction. Ru's now-famous
02:52tirade against the queens who failed the
02:54Shakespeare challenge was a stunning moment,
02:56but it honestly rings pretty hollow
02:58considering how ill-conceived the episode
03:00was. Ru and the producers
03:02cast queens who turned some of the best looks
03:04in the show's herstory. But when it came to
03:06the bizarre acting challenges, they were
03:08underserved. Basic witches
03:10not wanted.
03:14What is happening?
03:16I'm lost.
03:18Number seven, the fame games.
03:20In 2023, RuPaul
03:22introduced a twist to the All-Stars
03:24formula. On this season of All-Stars,
03:26there are two
03:28ways to win.
03:30What? The eliminated queens
03:32were given the chance to walk the runway in
03:34looks they would have worn had they continued in the
03:36competition. Fans would then vote for
03:38the winner. While we can imagine it was a great
03:40showcase for some expensive ensembles,
03:42it ended up not adding much to the season.
03:44Eventually, the fame games winner
03:46ended up being decided not just by the fans,
03:48but by a final variety
03:50show challenge that allowed the winner to multiply
03:52their votes to an obnoxious degree.
03:54If you think I'm done, you're wrong.
03:56I have a light and I'll shine it.
03:58You don't like what I do?
04:00Open our eyes, the world is at war. The picture
04:02is big, let's rip off our wig. I'm mad.
04:04That's certainly not to say the victor,
04:06La La Ri, was undeserving. The twist
04:08would just need an overhaul if it came back.
04:10Still, it did give us some great memes.
04:12Not a soaking clock.
04:14Not a soaking clock.
04:16Not a soaking clock.
04:18Number six, making over straight men.
04:20The makeover challenge has been a mainstay
04:22of Drag Race since the beginning.
04:24Usually, it's a great opportunity
04:26to show the power of a good drag transformation.
04:28Leland's missing a couple of cues,
04:30but I'm not worried about it. We're working it out
04:32the best way we can. However,
04:34two particular variations didn't
04:36go over well. Rue tasked season
04:38four and six queens with dragging up
04:40straight men who seemed very uncomfortable
04:42with the whole endeavor. We can give you some
04:44padding, too, so you can have some wider hips,
04:46so you'll have some body.
04:48Oh, man, I don't know if I want
04:50body.
04:52According to Jocelyn Fox,
04:54her partner was essentially tricked
04:56into appearing on the show by his fiancé
04:58as punishment for cheating. It begs
05:00the question, why pair the queens
05:02with people who are clearly not
05:04into it? It makes what should be a
05:06celebration of drag into an uncomfortable
05:08spectacle. So, Madonna, was there anything
05:10you were uncomfortable with? Just
05:12my manlihood being questioned.
05:14And who was questioning it? No one
05:16here, but it will be questioned.
05:18Hopefully, Rue keeps the makeover
05:20challenge light and inspirational
05:22from now on.
05:24Rue didn't just
05:26declare a losing team in this episode.
05:28She declared a bottom six.
05:30For the first time
05:32in Drag Race history,
05:36all of you
05:38will be lip syncing for your lives.
05:40Almost half of the
05:42season 11 cast had to lip sync for their lives
05:44to J.Lo's Waiting for Tonight.
05:46And it was chaos incarnate.
05:48Yeah, the diva worship challenge was bad,
05:50and having six queens fight for their
05:52lives at once probably seemed exciting.
05:54But as far as watchability
05:56goes, it isn't cute.
05:58Even
06:04with the split screen, it's hard to savor
06:06any particular performance.
06:08The only queen we get to spend any
06:10real time with is Honey, whose
06:12thrashing on the ground is clearly
06:14indicating her as the loser, robbing
06:16the elimination of any suspense.
06:24The host tried to shake things up,
06:26but it was just a jumbled mess
06:28of footage.
06:32Once again, the host threw another
06:34game-changing twist into the mix.
06:46Season 14's eliminated queens
06:48were teased with the promise of another shot
06:50at the crown if they just chose the candy
06:52bar with the golden ticket inside.
06:54Willy Wonka who? The only thing
06:56that worked here was the countless memes
06:58viewers made of June Jambalaya's deflated
07:00announcement that her chocolate bar was just
07:02that, chocolate.
07:08But as a component
07:10of the game, fans agree it was just
07:12Rue and the producers' way of rigging the
07:14outcome right in front of our faces.
07:16Why they thought that would be compelling,
07:18we're not sure. The chocolate bar twist
07:20can stay wrapped.
07:24Number 3. Teams.
07:34The first edition of RuPaul's Drag Race
07:36All Stars was more of a ploy to fill
07:38airtime than a celebration of the series to that
07:40point. So, when Rue decided
07:42to team up some of the most legendary queens
07:44from the first four seasons, the
07:46contestants were as baffled as us.
07:54This is
07:58just as much a case of what was
08:00Rue thinking as it is why did they
08:02go with the presumably first idea?
08:04Wasn't there another way to have a
08:06shortened run?
08:10The whole thing was such a
08:12fumble, many participants have been invited
08:14back to participate in subsequent All Stars
08:16editions, at least getting some well
08:18deserved do-overs.
08:20Number 2. The jury twist.
08:22Speaking of All Stars rigoury, season
08:24three took the cake. In a move
08:26seemingly inspired by the likes of
08:28Survivor, Rue decided to invite the
08:30eliminated contestants back to vote
08:32for the final two.
08:34As you see, I've asked the eliminated
08:36queens, a jury
08:38of your queer peers,
08:40to help me make my final
08:42decision. Up to that point,
08:44it was pretty obvious Shangela would at least make
08:46the finals. Instead, it was
08:48Trixie Mattel and Kennedy Davenport
08:50who advanced to the last round.
08:52And Trixie Mattel.
08:58The reason a jury works in other shows
09:00is that the contestants know they have to
09:02convince the people they've possibly wronged
09:04to vote for them in the end. Here, it was
09:06just a twist that negated a lot of the work
09:08the queens had done to that point in the competition.
09:10So, what exactly was the point?
09:12All the questions that are coming
09:14have nothing to do with my track record
09:16in the whole process being here. It's almost
09:19Before we continue, be sure to

09:37RuPaul stirred up controversy when
09:39announcing that trans women who had gender
09:41affirming surgery were akin to
09:43Olympic athletes who took
09:45performance enhancing drugs, saying
09:47they likely wouldn't be cast on the show.
09:49It understandably left many fans
09:51and former contestants feeling
09:53incredibly hurt on several levels.
09:55To be able to walk through a door
09:57as yourself
09:59and then showcase, you know,
10:01what you got, nobody can take
10:03that away from you. Considering drag and
10:05queer history in general, it was strange
10:07that RuPaul would want such distance from
10:09the trans community. Luckily, Ru
10:11seemingly had a change of heart.
10:13They say God is a woman
10:15and I am. And I'm also
10:17a drag queen. Since making those comments,
10:19several out trans women
10:21have competed and even won the show.
10:23Contestants like Sasha Colby and Kylie
10:25Sonique Love have brought endless talent to the
10:27competition, making the hosts earlier
10:29thinking even more baffling.
10:31Since season two, so much has happened
10:33to me and I feel like
10:35it's time for me to
10:37reintroduce myself. I am
10:39Kylie Sonique Love. Which drag race
10:41moment had you saying, Ru, please
10:43be serious? Tell us in the comments.
10:45What do you think you could have done
10:47to make this case go
10:49better? When? But you know
10:51what they say, fake it until you
10:53make it. Do you agree with
10:55our picks? Check out this other recent clip
