00:00 A mass wrestler walkout in Japanese promotion stardom!
00:04 Goldberg's backstage heat with Triple H!
00:07 And the latest candidate for Who Killed WCW?
00:10 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News!
00:16 Have you ever looked at how many wrestlers and WWE use spears these days?
00:25 Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley, Charlotte Flair, Brom Breaker, Jey Uso, Angelo Dawkins.
00:31 It's all obviously indicative of Triple H's secret nefarious plan to troll Bill
00:37 Goldberg.
00:38 According to Goldberg.
00:41 Maybe.
00:42 In a recent appearance on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast, Bill Goldberg claimed that
00:47 WWE wrestlers didn't all start using spears until he returned there in 2016.
00:54 And then it just so happened that every single wrestler uses the spear in their moves, right?
00:59 Pretty ironic that happened when I got there, right?
01:02 That's how they do it.
01:04 Isn't it ironic?
01:05 Don't you think?
01:07 It's like reeeeeeeee- This isn't the first time Goldberg has spoken
01:12 about spear spamming, as he also told Dr. Bo Hightower in 2022, "Now about 15 to 20
01:19 superstars in WWE use it.
01:21 I used to hate that so many people used the move, but now I like it because you see them
01:25 do it and then you see the master do it and there's a huge difference."
01:29 He's kind of right.
01:32 Back in 2016, when Goldberg made his return, it was only really Roman Reigns using the
01:37 spear as his finisher, and WWE Presumably Limited who else could use that move elsewhere
01:42 on the card because they wanted Roman to stand out.
01:45 But then Bobby Lashley returned to WWE in 2018, whose finisher is the spear.
01:50 And then Edge returned to WWE in 2020, whose finisher is also the spear.
01:56 Charlotte Flair started using it, and before you knew it, the finisher had become a signature,
02:01 and then the signature became a strong grapple and pressing up.
02:04 It's the lifecycle of really cool wrestling moves.
02:08 The Superkick, the DDT, the freaking Canadian Destroyer.
02:12 Once super protected finishers that only one person did, but two decades later, they're
02:17 a setup move for a nearfall in the opening match.
02:20 And it's not just a WWE thing.
02:22 Wrestlers chuck spears up and down the cards in AEW, TNA and beyond.
02:27 Or, again, it's Triple H's secret nefarious plot to troll Bill Goldberg, as Goldberg has
02:34 also recently alleged.
02:35 "The fact that I didn't get along with Paul Levesque, Triple H, who is Vince's
02:40 son-in-law, I think had everything to do with it when I got there."
02:44 Because Goldberg here is not just talking about the proliferation of wrestlers using
02:48 the spear.
02:49 It's also because his WWE return coincided with Triple H booking someone else to beat
02:55 Goldberg's undefeated streak.
02:58 Someone by the name of Asuka.
03:01 I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.
03:07 He seems to not even know who Asuka is, let alone how to say her name, so he's just
03:11 pronouncing it phonetically.
03:12 Which shows how disengaged he was with the rest of the product when he was working there.
03:17 But here's what he said.
03:20 "What's that, a girl what?
03:22 Beat my undefeated streak.
03:23 I didn't know that.
03:26 What's the story there?
03:27 Yeah, I can't even remember.
03:29 Asuka is her name, some Japanese girl.
03:32 And they touted her as being the one to have the longest winning streak.
03:36 And it just so happened that that culminated when I got there."
03:41 Now, Asuka was signed by WWE on the 8th September 2015 and won her first match a month later
03:46 on the 7th October.
03:48 This started a 914 day long winning streak, which she was already almost halfway through
03:54 when Paul Heyman first called out Goldberg on the 22nd October 2016 episode of Raw.
04:01 In fact, at that point, Asuka was only really 100 days out from beating Goldberg's 583
04:08 day undefeated streak.
04:09 Asuka ended up winning almost 250 consecutive matches in almost three years, while Goldberg's
04:16 was 161 matches in just under two.
04:19 It's also important to note that Triple H seemed to have a long-running undefeated
04:23 streak planned for Asuka long before conversations of bringing Goldberg back in even took place.
04:30 It was reportedly only the Summer release of WWE 2K17 for which Goldberg was the cover
04:35 star that started those conversations.
04:38 As we've seen in recent years, Triple H's booking is far more focused on numbers and
04:42 record breaking title reigns than his predecessor.
04:46 Since he took over WWE Creative in July 2022, Roman Reigns has had the longest world title
04:52 reign in modern history, Bianca Belair broke the record for the longest time as Raw Women's
04:57 Champion, and Gunther has just passed 650 days as Intercontinental Champion, breaking
05:03 the record for the longest singular reign and most cumulative days as champion.
05:09 So I think it's safe to conclude…
05:11 Yes, Triple H also did all of that to further gaslight Goldberg.
05:16 Gasberg.
05:17 Do you think Triple H was purposefully trying to dilute Goldberg's legacy?
05:20 Let me know in the comments down below because I'll be replying to people FROM OUTTA THE
05:24 GAME.
05:25 It's how you play it.
05:27 The funny thing is, it's not just Trips who might be trollberging.
05:31 His fellow Click members still do it to this day.
05:33 When Asuka officially passed Goldberg's undefeated streak, she tweeted about how much
05:38 she respected Bill.
05:39 Only for Scott Hall to reply "You're much more talented than Goldberg."
05:44 And in this week's episode of Click this, Kevin Nash explained the reason he had to
05:49 end Goldberg's original streak.
05:51 "It's because nobody liked him anymore.
05:53 I'm like, well, we were all there, and if we go to the Northeast, they were booing Bill,
05:59 you know?
06:00 It wasn't like all of a sudden it was, like, you know, we have to beat Bill.
06:03 It was just like, Bill's starting to be the Yankees.
06:07 Bill's starting to be the Yankees.
06:10 Nobody wanted the Patriots to beat the Dolphins f***ing record."
06:13 Sports.
06:16 But Nash went on to say it was neither him or Goldberg who killed WCW.
06:21 It was Jay Leno.
06:23 But you want to talk about what killed the f***ing WCW?
06:26 Jay Leno f***ing getting I think he had DDP in an armbar.
06:29 Like you gonna tell me f***ing Jay Leno's gonna get you in an armbar?
06:33 As if Conan O'Brien wasn't enough, you had to kill WCW too, Jay?
06:37 If only we had a video on this very channel investigating who really did kill WCW.
06:43 I mean, Jay Leno doesn't sound right, but I just don't know enough to argue it.
06:47 Oh yeah, just one more thing.
06:49 We do have one!
06:50 Watch who really killed WCW by clicking the link in the video description below.
06:55 Because content promotional segue!
06:59 Our next WrestleTalk Original goes live tomorrow, where I do a deep dive exploring how The Rock
07:04 went from being one of the most unselfish wrestlers in the Attitude Era, to Hollywood
07:09 making him a very effective political player, and how he used that to effectively take over
07:15 WWE this year.
07:17 Here's a clip.
07:18 Johnson had successfully negotiated a position on the board of WWE's parent company TKO
07:25 and loads of shares in it, ownership of The Rock intellectual property and, according
07:31 to some, the main event of WrestleMania XL.
07:36 In one fell swoop, The Rock had become head of WWE creative Paul Leveque's biggest star
07:43 and his boss.
07:45 Triple H, once thought to have been pro-wrestling's most successful backstage politician, just
07:50 found himself between a rock and a b****.
07:55 And well, another rock.
07:57 That video took me and the team a lot of research.
08:00 Some of us had to watch Black Adam.
08:02 So please do subscribe and enable notifications to always on to know when it goes live first,
08:07 and comment, give it a thumbs up and share it around when it does.
08:11 Triple H, despite his singular mission to annoy Bill Goldberg, does seem to inspire
08:15 the loyalty and respect of his roster.
08:17 That's the sign of a booker that's also become a leader.
08:21 And sometimes that loyalty can be so intense, wrestlers will follow you out the door if
08:26 you decide to leave.
08:28 The story of Rossi, Agawa and Stardom is fascinating.
08:31 Kind of overshadowed by Vince McMahon resigning from WWE and Scott D'Amour leaving TNA,
08:36 Agawa was the other long-time head of a major wrestling promotion that decided to go earlier
08:42 this year.
08:43 Agawa founded the Joshi, or All Women's Promotion, Stardom back in 2010.
08:47 It helped produce some of the best women's wrestlers in recent times, like Kairi Sane
08:52 and Io Sky, and is where others like Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter honed their craft.
08:58 After ten years, Agawa sold the promotion to Bushi Road, which is also the parents company
09:03 of New Japan.
09:04 The next year, 2020, would then see the first ever women's match take place at a WrestleKingdom,
09:10 albeit in a dark match.
09:12 But something else also happened in 2020.
09:14 The pandemic hit, and that severely derailed the growing New Japan and Stardom momentum.
09:20 During the years since, Agawa has been reportedly frustrated with Bushi Road's creative direction
09:25 for Stardom, on which he was still an executive producer.
09:28 He put in his notice last year, with his last date being February 18th, but the company
09:34 decided to fire him on February 4th, because of allegations that Rossi was poaching Stardom
09:39 talent to launch his own promotion.
09:42 And those fears have become reality, as Tokyo Sports is reporting four of Stardom's top
09:47 wrestlers are expected to leave to join Agawa's new company, which Dave Meltzer has also confirmed.
09:53 I'm going to get my comeuppance now, because I made fun of Bill Goldberg not being able
09:58 to pronounce Japanese names earlier.
10:01 Atami Hayashishita, the current Stardom Tag Team Champion and winner of the 2021 Women's
10:09 Tag Team MVP and the Wrestling Observer Awards, Mirai, who has won their Cinderella tournament
10:13 in both 2022 and 2023, former Artist of Stardom Champion Mei Sakurai and 19-year-old Yuzuki,
10:20 who won this year's Rookie of Stardom tournament, are all expected to go and join Agawa's
10:25 new promotion.
10:26 Meltzer noted "There's a lot of people who are committed to leave that are staying,
10:30 so that's interesting.
10:32 Some of those staying could be because there is still time remaining on their contracts."
10:36 In addition to those four wrestlers, Stardom's top star Julia is also expected to join Agawa's
10:41 new company before she eventually signs with WWE.
10:45 Which brings us to how this fits in the larger geopolitical wrestling context.
10:50 New Japan and AEW have a successful, several years long wrestling partnership, even if
10:55 AEW does keep signing New Japan's top stars.
10:59 But despite that, there seem to be tension between Tony Khan and Agawa.
11:03 Back in November, the official Stardom Twitter account complained about AEW never sending
11:08 any wrestlers to their promotion.
11:09 And then when Agawa was fired in February, Tony Khan seemed to celebrate that on Twitter,
11:16 posting "Bye Rossi" and then two gifs referencing undercover agents and industrial
11:21 espionage.
11:22 There's speculation that Agawa's new promotion could start a working relationship with WWE.
11:28 While you'll wait my Rock WWE TakeOver backstage politics in wrestling movies and
11:33 beyond video that goes live tomorrow, watch our video essay on who really killed WCW.
11:39 here.
