00:00 It's been about 3 days since SmackDown, I'm sure all that Cody and Rock stuff's
00:05 blown over by now.
00:06 Let's see what happened on last night's Raw.
00:11 WWE allegedly censoring anti-Rock chants, fans send death threats to The Rock's daughter,
00:20 and Luke's review of Monday Night Raw.
00:23 I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:33 For the benefit of those wrestling fans who haven't been online for the past two weeks,
00:37 and to those, I envy you.
00:39 I want your prelapsarian innocence.
00:41 The Rock has been appointed to TKO's board of directors, Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble,
00:45 chose to fight Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL, and then gave that match to The Rock six
00:49 days later.
00:50 Also, Vince McMahon resigned because of a very serious lawsuit, and The Rock might be
00:53 trying to take over the company behind the scenes.
00:56 Which after the last four years of wrestling, is just a pretty normal January and February.
01:02 One of the many problems with all of this is that fans were quite invested in that two
01:06 year long story WWE have been explicitly telling - where Cody will win the title his father
01:12 had taken away from him on the grandest stage of them all.
01:15 So it's prompted quite the backlash, some fun, some unhinged, but all - and it's important
01:21 to never lose sight of our place in the marks, carny promoters dynamic - making loads of
01:26 money for WWE.
01:29 Following the NXT Vengeance Day crowd booing graphics of The Rock on a screen, the February
01:33 5th episode of Raw's audience took fan hijacking to a level we haven't seen in WWE for years.
01:40 Partly because the product has gotten so good recently, and partly because one of those
01:44 years had a pandemic.
01:46 There were no fans.
01:48 Raw's St. Louis crowd heavily chanted "Rocky sucks" during the opening segment between
01:52 Seth Rollins, Cody and Drew McIntyre.
01:55 But WWE acknowledged the boos, and reportedly even fostered a pro-Cody sentiment, handing
02:01 out We Want Cody signs in the audience.
02:04 Yes, there's a reason they were all written in the same font.
02:08 The apparent plan is to give Cody a Daniel Bryan, WrestleMania 30 style 'yes' movement,
02:14 to properly make Rhodes the company's top babyface.
02:17 Unfortunately for WWE, that process also turning The Rock heel was not their intention.
02:23 Which might be why, weirdly, WWE allegedly muted Rocky Sucks chants later in the show.
02:30 In the main event ballrope match of Cody vs Shinsuke Nakamura, fan footage is circulating
02:35 of the audience heavily chanting "Rocky sucks".
02:38 I've checked the spot they're doing it on, Cody punching Nakamura in the corner,
02:42 but that took place during the commercial break.
02:45 WWE didn't censor that one, it just wasn't broadcast.
02:49 But according to Fightful Select, WWE production did try to cover the boos against The Rock
02:54 on the previous night's NXT PLE.
02:56 It's rumoured the same thing happened on Raw following them "acknowledging it"
03:02 at the top of the show.
03:03 Chanting "Rocky sucks" is a mostly well-adjusted way to express your anger at pro wrestling
03:08 booking.
03:09 And in his daughter death threats… not so much.
03:13 Ava Rain, the real-life daughter of Rock 'The Dwayne' Johnson and also the General Manager
03:18 of NXT that was totally, totally done on her own merit, has posted "Can y'all just
03:22 leave me out of this for F sake?
03:24 I'm busy running a show.
03:26 I'm a threat over a situation I have nothing to do with.
03:41 BFFR.
03:42 BFFR.
03:43 Best friend forever.
03:44 Right?
03:45 Oh, no, it's B effing for real.
03:46 I'm cool.
03:47 I'm effing real."
03:48 But as a wise man once said, controversy creates cash.
03:50 Or just look past the fact he then killed his own company.
03:53 Dave Meltzer is reporting the Backlash against The Rock is currently "a shrewd business
03:58 decision".
03:59 Following the People's Cuck holding on SmackDown, there was a major jump in ticket sales for
04:03 the next episode of Raw.
04:05 And WWE is going to get more eyeballs for this match than any match they've ever had.
04:10 They're going to have more sponsorship revenue based on the fact Dwayne's wrestling than
04:14 any match they've had.
04:16 Let's spread some wrestling positivity before we get into Luke's Raw review.
04:20 Here's a clip of the brand new episode of Tables, Lists and Chairs counting down the
04:24 best Royal Rumble matches ever.
04:27 You can watch now using the link in the video description below.
04:30 You've got a lot of like really fun Madison Square Garden stuff here.
04:34 I love the short ramp that they have here, reminiscent of 2000.
04:38 I wish they'd bring that back.
04:39 Such a cool time.
04:40 Hyper and Snuka have their deal.
04:42 Triple H and Cactus, eight years after the Street Fighter here.
04:45 And then of course, it's Cena coming back, which everybody forgot for 10 seconds how
04:50 much they hated him.
04:51 "Because I cannot stress how superhuman this is.
04:52 Like, it's been 15, 16 years."
04:59 I still can't believe that this man came back from a torn pack in like three and a half
05:02 months.
05:03 So just as a spoiler, this isn't on my list at all.
05:06 No.
05:07 Still angry.
05:08 You're mine.
05:09 When I was looking around, everyone was like, "Oh, it's top, top three or top five or whatever.
05:13 Some people's number one."
05:14 But whenever I think of this Rumble, I just think of them.
05:21 And now it's time for my review of Monday Night Raw, aka the Pivot, Pivot, Pivot episode
05:28 of Monday Night Raw in about five minutes.
05:31 Seth Rollins opened the show to brag about getting a pop this time, and the commentary
05:35 let us know what this episode of Raw was all about.
05:38 Pat McAfee said, "The whole world is talking about WWE."
05:42 He didn't say that the whole world was upset about The Rock seemingly taking Cody's place
05:47 at WrestleMania, just that "the whole world is talking about WWE."
05:53 Michael Cole on several occasions noted that Cody Rhodes has been trending on Twitter for
05:58 three whole days.
05:59 He didn't say it's because of fan backlash to WWE's whiplash change of plans, just that
06:04 "Cody's been trending for three days on Twitter."
06:07 WWE did an incredible amount of spin on this episode, and turned a rather ugly booking
06:14 situation from Smackdown into an intriguing positive for Monday Night Raw.
06:18 Rollins called out Cody, who just feels like the world's biggest doofus at the moment,
06:22 but he didn't actually get to say anything.
06:24 Rollins put over his title, which got booed again, and once again asked Cody if he would
06:29 face him at WrestleMania, which also got booed again.
06:32 Drew McIntyre came out to say that Rollins is just trying to get into Cody's head,
06:36 and that he should go and finish the story.
06:38 Do not let your dad down.
06:41 Because when you go and do what Drew wants you to do, it means that Drew can face Rollins
06:45 for the belt because it's time for him to take over.
06:48 He headbutted Seth Rollins, and Cody sent him packing.
06:51 WWE are in full pivot mode following the backlash to Smackdown, and this segment was designed
06:57 to make you think that Cody vs. Roman is still a possibility for WrestleMania.
07:03 Which it very much is.
07:04 They went to great lengths later in the show to say that Rock vs. Roman at Mania is not
07:09 official.
07:10 All the while setting up Drew vs. Rollins for the Loser's Belt at Mania in the Loser's
07:15 Bracket.
07:16 Thursday is going to be an interesting day, that's for sure.
07:19 WWE are in a bit of a mess right now, but they're leaning into it.
07:24 I think this might be the most watched WWE press conference in history.
07:28 The other story of the show was that this crowd turned out to go nuts for Cody Rhodes
07:32 and let WWE know that they want Cody Rhodes, but they didn't really care about much else.
07:38 They did very much get into the Fatal 4-Way tag match by the end, because the action broke
07:42 down into 8 lads hitting big moves and doing big dives and it was awesome and that's
07:46 always going to get a reaction.
07:47 DIY got a blind tag on the Creed Brothers to hit meat in the middle to get the win.
07:51 They're now going to face British Strong Style on Smackdown with the winners facing
07:54 Judgment Day at Elimination Chamber.
07:56 It was a really good showing for the Creed's, who felt like they've been off the boil
07:59 since their debut, and it furthered the feud between New Day and Imperium.
08:03 More on that in a bit.
08:05 Becky Lynch beat Shayna Baszler to qualify for the Women's Elimination Chamber, the
08:08 winner of which will face Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania.
08:11 It was a good match, and we're going to get Liv Morgan vs. Zoey Stark in another
08:14 qualifier next week.
08:16 Speaking of Ripley, Adam Pearce announced that she'll be facing Nia Jax for the title
08:19 at Elimination Chamber, with Jax coming out to lay out Rhea Ripley once again.
08:24 It is so smart to position Rhea Ripley as the babyface going against the heel Nia Jax
08:29 going into the PPV.
08:31 Not only because Rhea's basically over as a babyface anyway, but she's going into
08:35 her home country for Chamber and will be cheered like a returning national hero.
08:40 Valhalla and Ivar beat Alpha Academy in a mixed tag match that was… sloppy.
08:46 And Judgment Day had a chat in their Judgment Den when R-Truth showed up to make jokes about
08:50 being initiated into the group last week.
08:53 So rather than beat him up like they did last week, Pearce told Truth to make himself at
08:57 home in the Den.
08:59 Truth instead decided to go to ringside to give his t-shirt away for free during JD McDonough's
09:04 match with The Miz - which was a match that you can close your eyes and imagine beat for
09:09 beat and you'll probably be right.
09:12 Truth tried to give JD his cut of the merch money despite thinking that JD isn't part
09:15 of the group and isn't even on the merchandise - and it allowed Miz to hit the Skull Crushing
09:19 Finale for the win.
09:20 As I said last week, I think this sets up Awesome Truth winning the tag team gold from
09:25 Judgment Day at WrestleMania and that will be really, really nice.
09:29 Adam Pearce had a chat backstage with Braun Breaker who had a staredown moment with Imperium
09:33 which could set up Braun to just fully take Brock's place at Mania and face Gunther
09:38 for the IC title.
09:39 But not before Jey Uso gets his shot.
09:42 Gunther celebrated 600+ days as Intercontinental Champion, but was quickly interrupted by Jey
09:48 Uso who put over Gunther's accomplishments.
09:51 Gunther responded by putting over Jey's accomplishments too.
09:54 He was tag champion for over 1,000 days.
09:56 But that also means he only did 50% of the work - unlike Gunther who's done 100% of
10:03 the work.
10:04 Imperium attacked Jey Uso and New Day ran out for the save, they'll have a trios match
10:07 next week.
10:08 Edge of Control retained the women's tag titles over the party girls in a okay match
10:12 with not a lot of heat, and Jackie sat down with Sami Zayn to talk about his current direction
10:16 or perhaps lack thereof.
10:18 Sami talked about the highs he had around this time last year - turning face, nearly
10:23 beating Roman in his home country, main eventing WrestleMania - and now he's not really sure.
10:29 But he does want to be a champion and he wants to do it for the fans who believed in him.
10:34 It was a very good and very real promo, but it also does highlight that there are a lot
10:39 of guys with question marks above their heads going into WrestleMania.
10:43 And the main event saw Cody Rhodes beat Shinsuke Nakamura in a bull rope match to finish a
10:47 feud that finished last month, but is happening again because we want Cody I guess.
10:51 They put over the connections the Rhodes family has to the bull rope gimmick, even saying
10:55 this was the same bull rope that Dusty used in his infamous match with Superstar Billy
10:59 Graham - and while this was nowhere near the quality of that, it was still a fine main
11:05 event.
11:06 WWE's problem is that they can't really do a proper bull rope match because they can't
11:10 go to that level of violence - not that this feud necessitated that level of violence,
11:14 Cody's already beaten him twice - but they did have a clever little twist.
11:18 You see, WWE can't do blood, so Nakamura spat red fist on Cody's face to make it
11:24 look like he was covered in blood just like his old man.
11:28 Cody hit the Crossroads for the win, and Drew McIntyre laid him out after the match.
11:32 And it capped off an episode that was… fine.
11:35 There is so much intrigue in WWE right now following the controversial end to Smackdown,
11:41 and I would wager that the opening quarter hour of this show will do a monster number
11:47 when the ratings come out tomorrow.
11:49 The Fatal 4-Way tag match was awesome, and the rest of the wrestling was broadly fine.
11:53 This week's show is 3 out of 5.
11:55 Now go and check out myself, Oli Davis and Tempest counting down our top 10 Royal Rumble
12:00 matches.
