Polls are trending rightward across Europe, raising the possibility that the continent's radicals and reactionaries could wield much more power in the next parliament.

00:00 The launch of a manifesto of conservative values inspired by the heritage of Saint Benedict
00:07 was the aim of the event organised on Thursday by the ECR group in the Italian town of Subiaco.
00:12 The site where the saint's monastery is located was chosen to highlight the importance of
00:16 Benedict's role in preserving traditions and how much his legacy has shaped European
00:21 conservatism.
00:22 And with the next European elections round the corner, the rise in support for conservative
00:26 parties seems to back that idea.
00:28 "The mistakes made by the European institutions in the last five years have generated an adverse
00:35 reaction.
00:36 It is the rejection of the common sense that we were hoping for, which has already manifested
00:43 itself through all the national elections that have taken place in the last five years."
00:48 The event was attended by several ECR MEPs from across Europe, including a Vox party
00:52 delegation.
00:53 They say that overcoming differences is key to strengthen the group.
00:57 "We can unite many parties that have differences, but if we have common core values, we can
01:06 cooperate and we can be the strongest group in the European Parliament.
01:14 Maybe not in this legislature, in the next legislature, sure."
01:18 According to the ECR co-chairman, finding common ground is possible also with Orban's
01:22 party, and even if others only see differences.
01:25 "He approved all the sanctions that were imposed on the Russian regime, which supported
01:33 the financing of the resistance of the Ukrainian population.
01:38 Obviously he also has his point of view, but he has shown that he is compatible with
01:48 European architecture.
01:49 Today, those who want to demonize him do it simply because they need to separate the opposing
01:57 parties to win."
02:00 Bartomont Ball, the Brothers of Italy MEP, thinks the next European elections are a historic
02:05 moment for Italy, thanks to Giorgio Meloni's leading roles both nationally and in Europe.
02:10 Giorgio Arlandi for EURO News, in Subiaco.
