00:00 "The Home Ministry has decided to drop its constitutional amendments on citizenship for
00:07 foundlings and stateless children," Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.
00:13 He added that the decision was made after intensive meetings with MPs and party representatives,
00:17 as well as legal experts, state agencies, and the chief whips of all parties.
00:23 Saifuddin said all the proposed amendments tabled by the Home Ministry have been agreed
00:26 upon except those concerning 19b and 14(1)(e), which will remain unchanged.
00:33 Section 19b of Part 3 of the Second Schedule of the Federal Constitution covers the conferment
00:38 of citizenship rights by operation of law to foundlings and stateless children.
00:44 Saifuddin said the proposal had initially been to change those involved under 19b and
00:48 14(1)(e) to citizens by registration.
00:52 Multiple groups have decried the proposed constitutional amendment, saying it may block
00:56 the pathway to citizenship for stateless children and foundlings.
