00:00 The Synaculo is an important tradition in the Philippines
00:03 that is usually performed during the Holy Week.
00:06 It is a theater that shows the events from the last days of Jesus,
00:11 particularly his suffering, death, and resurrection.
00:16 If that is the case, it was given by a non-profit organization
00:21 Mandalenyo Ang Sinaculo in Barangka 2024.
00:25 And to share with us the details about that, we will have with us
00:29 the President of Teatro Mandalenyo, Ms. April Grace Mesa,
00:33 Vice President, Mr. Alvin John Mina,
00:36 and of course, the Director of Teatro Mandalenyo, Ms. Pearl Angeline Manabat.
00:40 And we will also have with us this morning their members,
00:43 Maynard Bascon and Chinky Elmedolan.
00:48 Good morning, welcome to the show.
00:51 Let's start with the President.
00:53 How was the concept of the Synaculo in Barangka formed?
00:56 And what is its main goal?
00:58 The Synaculo is a tradition in our area that started a few days ago.
01:06 The Synaculo is a way of showing the life of Christ.
01:13 The concept of this is to remind all people
01:21 about the suffering and hardship of Christ during his time.
01:26 In different churches in the Philippines, there are different versions of the Synaculo.
01:31 There are people who go to each station.
01:33 There is a theater play that Catholics go to
01:37 to perform their Synaculo.
01:40 And that's really a tradition.
01:42 Correct. Well, for Sir Alvin, the Vice President,
01:45 how did you see the contribution of Teatro Mandalenyo
01:48 to the culture and tradition of the Mandaluyong
01:50 through the establishment of this Synaculo?
01:53 To be honest, we consider ourselves as modern-day apostles
01:59 in a way that we are able to convey the message of the works and miracles of Jesus Christ
02:10 through theater acts of singing, dancing, and just the play itself.
02:18 We are also able to help the youth, especially our new members,
02:23 to improve themselves, to have self-esteem and confidence through theater acting.
02:29 Theater acting is really different.
02:31 It's very holistic. It helps people.
02:34 And it seems like you have a modern approach to your theater.
02:37 Well, speaking of that, Direct Pearl,
02:39 what are the preparations that you are doing for your Synaculo in Barangka 2024?
02:45 Actually, we started preparing as early as December.
02:50 We're starting to do brainstorming, planning.
02:53 Because since our Synaculo is a traditional approach,
02:56 we want to innovate every scene.
02:59 Because apart from innovating, we are also preparing our members
03:05 on how they can act, how they will express their emotions.
03:09 This is especially difficult because we have to show the love and sacrifice of Christ.
03:16 So, our ensayo starts from January.
03:20 It's every Friday until Sunday.
03:23 Then, we also help with the props to prepare until the entablado is built.
03:32 Our entablado is also very traditional because we use bamboo.
03:37 Okay, that's nice.
03:38 For the members who are here, Maynard and Chinky,
03:41 what is your participation here?
03:43 I'm the one who will act as Christ.
03:50 Actually, this is my first year.
03:52 At first, it's a bit of a pressure.
03:55 But with the help of our members and prayers, we are able to do it well.
04:01 How about you, Chinky?
04:03 For me, this is my first time playing the role of Claudia, Pilato's wife.
04:09 I didn't know that you have a wife.
04:12 I played the role of Alfonso Pilato.
04:15 I played the role of Alfonso Pilato.
04:20 So, you can be a couple.
04:22 Stop it. I'm too early.
04:24 Not in real life. Maybe in a play.
04:27 But Miss April, we want to know what the public can expect from the barangay's synagogue this year.
04:35 We have prepared this well.
04:37 So, you can expect more exciting scenes,
04:42 which are inspired by the miracles of Jesus Christ,
04:46 so that we can let the youth know the importance of love and forgiveness.
04:53 It's beautiful. If you watch it, you will be able to relive the life of Jesus.
04:58 But if you are the character, I'm sure you will feel it.
05:01 This role is very transformative for you.
05:05 But for all of you, anyone can answer,
05:07 when and where will this take place?
05:10 And maybe you can invite our RRSP members to watch this.
05:14 We invite you to support our group, Teatro Mandalenyo.
05:21 To watch the barangay's synagogue in 2024.
05:25 This starts at 8 p.m. on the upcoming Easter.
05:33 This starts from March 25 to 30.
05:38 How many places are there every day?
05:40 We only have one place, which is the Plaza of the Barangay in Lungsod, Mandaluyong.
05:48 If I can't go on this day, I can go on other days.
05:51 How many times?
05:52 So, one time you can go on one day, one whole week.
05:56 8 p.m. to 12 p.m.
05:58 That's four hours.
06:00 On that note, of course, thank you very much for giving us the details about your synagogue in Barangay 2024.
06:08 We will be able to watch the miracles of Teatro Mandalenyo,
06:12 which are Ms. April Grace Meza, Mr. Alvin John Mina, Pearl Angeline Manaba, Maynard Bascon, and Chinky Elmedolan.
06:20 Thank you so much and stay safe.
06:21 Thank you.
06:22 Thank you for inviting us.
