Transcript
00:00 >> Warren Academy from Omaha, Nebraska.
00:03 We're talking to Chase Lofton, tight end, one of the best tight ends in the country.
00:06 There's so many good tight ends in this tournament this weekend.
00:09 And you're right there at the top.
00:11 I mean, what about some of the talent in this field this weekend?
00:15 >> Yeah, it was awesome.
00:16 It was awesome to play against those guys and see where I compared to them.
00:19 It was fun.
00:19 I don't finish second, but next time we go, I'll finish first.
00:22 >> There you go.
00:23 Recruiting has been crazy for you for a while now.
00:26 You're up to 21 offers, I think you told me?
00:29 >> Yep. >> Yeah.
00:30 Who are some of those schools you've dropped to top ten recently?
00:32 Let's talk about some of those schools.
00:34 Let's talk about your top ten and what you like about those guys.
00:37 >> So my top ten right now is Florida, Penn State, K State, Miami, Mizzou,
00:42 Nebraska, Florida State, Oklahoma, Auburn, Texana.
00:45 >> Excellent, so since we're all Sooners, we're gonna ask you about Oklahoma.
00:50 What do you like about Oklahoma just as a program, and
00:53 what do you like about what they do with the tight end?
00:56 >> Well, the first thing that sticks out to me is they're my first offer.
00:58 Also, taking a shot on these is a big deal.
01:00 And I really get along with the coaching staff, Coach Venables and
01:03 Coach Finley, some of my favorite guys.
01:05 And the atmosphere at that stadium is second to none for sure.
01:08 So yeah, I love it there.
01:10 >> Okay, tell me about the atmosphere.
01:12 What games did you go to, or have you been to?
01:15 >> Yeah, I forget what game I went to last year.
01:17 What was it?
01:18 I can't remember, but- >> Day game, night game, do you remember?
01:21 >> I think it was night.
01:21 >> Okay, was it pretty crazy?
01:22 >> Yeah, it was pretty crazy, it was awesome.
01:24 >> And they won, right?
01:25 >> Yeah. >> Yeah, so what is that?
01:27 I mean, the organization, the structure,
01:29 what they do to bring you guys in as recruits.
01:31 Tell me about some of the things you got to do when you were there.
01:33 >> Yeah, so for the most part, I just talked to the coaches,
01:36 talked to them about it, we ate some food, and then watched the game.
01:39 The main part was just me evaluating how they use their tight ends and
01:42 how they use their play on the field.
01:45 >> Yeah, and do you like the way they use their tight ends?
01:47 A lot of different personnel groupings?
01:49 >> Yeah, for sure, they're all over the place.
01:50 >> Yeah, what are some of the other schools that stand out to you on your top ten?
01:54 >> Really, all the schools in the top ten right now, I would say,
01:56 are the tight ends.
01:57 >> And what is it maybe about those schools that does?
02:00 A lot of them are the same, a lot of them offer the same type of opportunity, but
02:03 can you kind of expound on what it is about recruiting that you enjoy?
02:07 >> I look for three things through this recruitment process.
02:09 And the first thing is academics.
02:11 The second thing is the coaching staff.
02:13 Do I think they can develop me to an NFL guy?
02:15 Do I get along with them?
02:16 And the third thing, probably the most important thing,
02:18 is just when I walk in, does it feel like home?
02:22 >> Yeah, and Oklahoma fulfilled some of those.
02:26 Have you been on any visits lately, other than the game you went to?
02:30 >> I'm still in Oklahoma.
02:31 I think my last visit was the game.
02:33 >> Okay, okay.
02:34 Okay, so tell me about the future.
02:36 You're gonna have to pare it down if you wanna take your OVs, right?
02:40 >> Yeah, for sure.
02:41 Yeah, I'm going through these three practices.
02:42 I'm gonna figure out which ones are my top ones to take the OVs to.
02:45 >> Okay, and what's that process gonna be like, stressful?
02:48 >> It's probably gonna be a little stressful, but it'll be fun.
02:51 >> Yeah, can you describe your game, kinda how you play the game of football?
02:55 >> So I'm mostly like a route runner type of tight end.
02:59 I'm pretty good at creating separation on the DBs and stuff.
03:02 And that I'm great at the point of attack, catching the ball.
03:05 My blocking game, it's improving for sure.
03:08 I would say that's my weaker part of my game that I need to keep expanding on.
03:12 I need to get better on all fronts, but yeah,
03:14 I'm gonna keep trying to become more dynamic.
03:16 >> There you go, 6'6"-ish.
03:18 >> 6'6", 215.
03:19 >> 215, all right, you probably play at about 245, 250.
03:23 >> Yep.
03:24 Looking forward to it.
03:25 Chase Loftin, thanks man.
