00:00 >> You've talked a lot about the defense and experience returning.
00:04 Going into your third year here in spring,
00:06 do you feel like it's starting to get to where, I know it's never perfect.
00:10 >> As fast as it is, as fast as it is.
00:12 Overall, we do have another year in the system.
00:17 I just look at all the systems, I think it's important.
00:20 And I'm starting with just, again, the excitement that you need to have,
00:24 the passion that you need to have, the focused intensity that you need to have.
00:28 Whether you're in segment meetings, team meeting, you come to this practice field.
00:32 If it's a walkthrough or if it's a two minute drill, you win the game.
00:35 All of it should require the same level of passion and intensity and focus.
00:40 And just, again, having a group of guys that are obsessed with
00:43 the physical toughness, obsessed with developing our team,
00:49 obsessed with the details, obsessed with
00:56 having the right mindset every single day, and competing and winning.
01:02 I want our guys to try to create as much competition as we can.
01:05 I want our guys to understand the value of winning and losing.
01:09 And it should matter, everything should matter.
01:12 And we're gonna grade every play from practice.
01:15 And you should, again, it should be incredibly disappointing if you don't get
01:20 a winning rate in practice every single day.
01:22 And you wanna be somebody that develops trust during this time of the year.
01:25 You wanna be somebody that develops your own toughness mentally and
01:29 physically during this time of the year.
01:31 And then you develop great habits.
01:34 Goals and things like that are great for setting direction.
01:38 But your habits and your guts, your will being stronger than your skill,
01:44 your will and your habits are what's gonna determine whether or
01:48 not you're successful.
01:49 And I want our guys to really buy into that.
01:52 So they're breaking bad habits or old habits or creating new habits.
01:58 And today's in the books, it's a wrap.
02:00 Nothing these guys can do about it, good or bad.
02:03 And so, but on Thursday, they get to start over.
02:06 And it's a new beginning, and it's a day, and a season, and a moment all of its own.
02:09 And I want our guys to really embrace that kind of a mindset.
02:13 And when you do, you can maximize every opportunity that you have,
02:15 whatever that opportunity looks like.
02:17 So I want our guys to value and have a mindset that they get to do what they're
02:22 doing, not got to do, they get to do it.
02:24 And as a reminder, at the beginning of the day,
02:28 that they can't play at Oklahoma anymore.
02:29 They're not gonna play anymore.
02:30 They're gonna have to hang the cleats up.
02:32 And so I want them all to be able to look back and
02:34 have absolutely no regret whatsoever.
02:37 And so this is, cuz they don't know what they don't know.
02:42 And so we gotta create perspective, we gotta create vision.
02:45 We have to nurture the proper perspective of those types of things.
02:51 But we can't want the success more for them than they want it for themselves.
02:55 But I love the leadership on our defense, the returning players.
02:59 You got several guys that have a mindset like, coach me like a freshman coach.
03:05 Coach me like I know nothing, and I love that.
03:09 Sign me up for that.
03:09 Having the humility, first of all, as opposed to, well,
03:14 this is my third or my fourth year, y'all lucky to have me back.
03:18 I wouldn't tolerate that stance.
03:20 But I love, I got a three deep of guys that are like, I need to be coached.
03:26 Again, I came back with purpose, I need to get better.
03:29 And so the humility, the focus, the toughness, the leadership,
03:35 they recognize that they're in leadership positions.
03:37 And everybody's watching them, how they talk, how they practice,
03:41 how they lead, everything matters.
03:43 So I got a great respect and appreciation for that on both sides of the ball.
03:48 Maybe it's a Joe, a Jameel Farouk,
03:51 on offense or it's the growth and development of a guy like Jaden Gibson.
03:57 Or it's the buy-in and the toughness of a guy like a Bauer Sharp that just got here.
04:03 And man, he's trying to earn the respect of his teammates or
04:07 Leon Burks, these guys that are showing up here with a sense of desperation.
04:14 But I see it from lots of guys.
04:17 Guys from attorney, guys that just got out of here, out of high school.
04:22 David Stone and Jaden Jackson, amongst others,
04:27 that group of young defensive linemen.
04:31 And they get lit in that building there, in between classes, at night,
04:37 after practice there, they just wanna get better.
04:40 They wanna have a role, and they're trying to develop that.
04:44 So the hunger, the edge, and again, they're amongst several guys,
04:49 several offensive linemen.
04:51 I'm really excited about young guys like a Ethos Island and
04:55 Logan Allen, and I'm talking about Josh Bates.
04:59 We've got a tougher guy out here than Josh Bates, he's a football player.
