00:00 >> Everybody has a voice in this defense.
00:03 Everybody's an individual stockholder if you will.
00:08 And I think that the day that you stop wanting to learn,
00:13 whatever it is, is the day you start dying.
00:17 I'm not ready to do that yet.
00:19 So I think that, like I used with the coaches,
00:23 there'll be a player that you ask a question or
00:28 they ask you a question cuz they don't understand how you presented it.
00:34 And they might say something that clicks in your own mind.
00:36 You're like, hey, that's pretty good.
00:38 Let's do it that way.
00:40 And we have those type of players here.
00:43 Like Rod, I mean, he's the safety that, I'm not talking about play wise or
00:48 anything else, but smart wise, football knowledge wise, all that.
00:54 He reminds me of Eric Weddle, he was one of the smartest safeties I've ever coached.
00:58 And so I called Weddle and told him about it.
01:01 I mean, that's exciting to me because there's a lot of checks that have to be
01:06 made on the field.
01:07 And it's like, well, the head pieces,
01:11 the ear pieces coming in now, which is great cuz that's what I'm used to.
01:17 But there's still gonna be signal.
01:20 I mean, cuz Rod's like, they go, hurry up.
01:25 What should we do?
01:26 I said, call a defense.
01:28 You can't be wrong.
01:30 And he's that smart.
01:31 You know what I mean?
01:32 And now what you gotta do is start building more and more guys like that.
01:36 And I haven't had as many conversations with Macari as I have Rod.
01:39 But you can see in Macari's play, those two are connected.
01:44 And I saw him yesterday in a walkthrough.
01:46 So there's gonna be other guys with that.
01:48 Mason is one up front, Ernie at linebacker.
01:54 I mean, there's a lot of guys that know football here.
01:59 And that's the good thing for me.
02:02 The advantage is it's a system that we've all put together.
02:07 And you'll see a different flux of it cuz there's different coaches,
02:11 different assistants.
02:12 We did this here.
02:14 All right, that looks pretty good.
02:17 Let's incorporate that.
02:18 And the assistants that's shown is higher top level guys.
02:26 Lamar Morgan at the secondary, he was a coordinator.
02:31 He's been a coordinator before.
02:33 So he thinks like a coordinator.
02:34 BJ's the same way as a linebacker coach.
02:38 And my goal for them is that they become coordinators.
02:42 And I want everybody thinking that way.
02:45 And it could be a graduate assistant.
02:47 It could be an analyst.
02:48 It could be whoever.
02:49 Rising tide raises all the ships.
02:54 And there's not a bad question or bad answer for anything.
02:59 So you learn that.
02:59 I know it took forever to answer that question, but it's a good question.
03:02 >> All right, I'll let him.
