00:00 Show me JJ McCarthy.
00:01 Two things.
00:02 He makes the hard look very simple and no one's more confident in his arm ability than JJ
00:06 McCarthy.
00:07 So I want to show this clip because this is called all-goes special.
00:10 It's four verticals.
00:11 One thing I know about this play, you do not call this play unless you are totally confident
00:16 in your quarterback's ability to make difficult throws.
00:19 Now you're going to see JJ McCarthy leave the pocket here.
00:22 What stands out to me is nobody's open, okay?
00:24 No one is open for Michigan.
00:25 Nebraska plays eight-drop defense and he's going to get away from pressure and make a
00:29 beautiful on-the-run to his left throw to Roman Wilson for a touchdown.
00:33 I want to show everybody the back angle of it because there's a little bit nitty-gritty
00:37 when it comes to this quarterback's play.
00:39 Remember, all-goes special.
00:41 Everybody is going to be flowing downfield.
00:42 A couple things that I love about JJ McCarthy on this.
00:45 You're going to get an inside rush from this defensive tackle out of Nebraska.
00:49 He wins, okay?
00:50 Now so often when a quarterback gets pressure off of his left and inside, the nitty-gritty
00:55 is reaction-wise, we're going to run away to our right from that.
00:59 Two downsides to that.
01:00 Number one, everybody is flowing towards the top of the screen so you're not going to have
01:04 anybody to go throw the football to.
01:06 Number two, this defensive end is going to have contain.
01:09 So you're going to go nowhere and you're going to have nowhere to go with the football.
01:13 This is what I love about JJ.
01:15 Make the really hard look very simple.
01:17 He is going to do what we call a spin-out move.
01:20 The spin-out move is when you get that internal pressure, put your left leg into the ground
01:25 and get away from that pressure.
01:26 Watch how JJ, with that internal pressure, is going to spin away from it and get away
01:31 from that defensive end.
01:33 Now two hands on the football.
01:34 Why?
01:35 Because that's called the dead man's zone.
01:36 You keep that guy near you or that guy's near you, you've got to protect the football.
01:40 As you get away from him, go to one hand.
01:42 You use your speed and again, full speed onto his left from the 20-yard line, throws an
01:48 absolute dart to Roman Wilson for the touchdown.
01:51 That is very hard.
01:52 He's made it look simple.
01:53 Now let's go to an in-the-pocket play.
01:55 I love this.
01:56 Michigan State is in a two-shell defense.
01:59 When you're in two-shell defense, ideally we want to throw the ball down the middle
02:02 of the field.
02:03 Now, Michigan's going to run a shallow cross by Roman Wilson right side of the screen.
02:07 Now when that happens, this safety is going to do what we call cut it.
02:11 He's trying to get ahead of it.
02:13 Now when that happens, this corner, you see him pointing?
02:16 They're going to change rules essentially.
02:18 Corner's going to go over the top.
02:20 Safety's going to cut that shallow cross.
02:22 Remember, I told everybody at home, we want to throw the ball down the middle of the field.
02:25 He's got Loveland, his tight end, going down the middle of the field.
02:28 Now here's the thing, Greene.
02:30 When you're going to throw this ball down the middle of the field, safety cutting, corner
02:33 replacing, you cannot throw the ball with a lot of touch.
02:37 You know, a lofted ball, it has to be firm because if you loft it, who's going to go
02:42 make the play?
02:43 The corner, right?
02:44 This ball's got to be firm from J.J.
02:46 McCarthy.
02:47 So often we hear this saying, when you're throwing against a middle linebacker that
02:50 has his head turned, you want to throw the ball off the backside of his helmet, right
02:55 by his ear you want this football to go.
02:57 You want it to go right by that defensive linebacker's ear.
03:00 Look at this throw by J.J. McCarthy.
03:02 Make the really hard things look simple.
03:04 That ball goes right by that linebacker's ear, firm on an absolute rope before anybody
03:10 realizes it by Michigan State's defense.
03:12 The really difficult plays that for so many other quarterbacks are hard, his talent makes
03:18 it look very simple.
