00:00 Human rights activists are encouraging governments to investigate human rights claims in detention centres,

00:08 not ignoring reports by Human Rights Watch.

00:11 John Quinley of Fortify Rights, based in Bangkok, said

00:15 "accusers, including those who have fled in immigration depots across the country, must be held accountable for the actions."

00:23 Quinley's report on the HRW on 6 March claimed human rights violations and a detention centre in Malaysia.

00:34 The report was based on 43 claims of detention centres that were treated badly,

00:41 lack of medical and torture services, and said detention centres that resulted in many deaths.

00:47 It claimed that women and children also experienced abuse and neglect, with more than 1,400 children detained,

00:55 two-thirds of whom were not accompanied or separated from their families,

01:00 and were often detained with adults who had no connection.

01:05 The Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasrutin Ismail, questioned the credibility of the report,

01:10 and urged the group to state the location of the detention centres.
