00:00 >> What's this last season wrap, this whole process, portal,
00:03 what's all that process been like for you?
00:06 >> Crazy, the season that we had, a lot of different controversies that we had,
00:11 Michigan State, and we made it through, I'm still here.
00:15 But just entering the portal, I wanted to go to the NFL, and
00:18 I feel like I had more to put on the table and more to put out for scouts.
00:22 So I feel like hitting the portal was the best thing for me, and
00:26 I wanted to be with the best O-line coach in the country.
00:29 So I feel like he could develop me to get me to that next level.
00:32 I feel like he has a track record.
00:34 And really, just put my hand in the pile, get to work, and better my craft.
00:42 >> About when did you make that determination, the feedback of,
00:46 maybe come back to college one more year, see what that was like, hit the portal?
00:49 >> Probably after the last game, Penn State.
00:55 And then too, with the portal, I was just getting a lot of feedback,
01:00 just talking to mentors, hearing from different scouts and stuff like that, and
01:04 my coaches, and I just felt like it was just the right thing for
01:07 me to do to come back, I had more on the table.
01:09 >> Who were some of those people that you kind of leaned on during that process,
01:14 just as far as, regardless of what decision you make,
01:17 there's gonna be a ton of change?
01:19 >> Just talking to my team, my family, some of my coaches,
01:24 my mentors, guys who are really close to me, and just praying about it.
01:29 Really just talking to God and having a conversation with myself and him, and
01:33 just being real vulnerable and being honest with myself.
01:36 >> What was that first conversation with Bill Beaton Belt like?
01:38 >> A blessing, and I don't take it for
01:42 granted cuz a lot of people wish they was in my shoes.
01:45 When you talk about online, you gotta mention his name.
01:48 So that first conversation was honestly speechless for
01:52 him to take a chance on me and give me an opportunity.
01:57 I'm extremely blessed.
01:58 >> Oklahoma and Beaton Belt not only have the great track record of offensive linemen,
02:02 he's done good work with transfers, specifically.
02:04 Is that something that kind of priced in that you did that too?
02:06 >> Looking at Walter Ross, looking at Tyler Guyon, Morris,
02:11 just looking at some of these tackles and these guys coming in.
02:14 I feel like he's a good guy and he can develop these guys and
02:19 put them out in the next level and they excel at the next level too.
02:22 So it's a blueprint, it's a plan and you just gotta follow it and
02:27 add it up at the end.
02:29 >> A lot of new faces, how easy has that been for
02:31 you to kind of get hunkered in with the offensive line just cuz you have so many?
02:34 >> It's good, just being uncomfortable.
02:36 That's the main thing, being uncomfortable and just learning from dudes.
02:41 That's the main thing.
02:42 I'm just trying to keep my head down, get to work, learn as much as I can from
02:45 everybody, and just have fun.
02:49 That's the main thing.
02:50 Just have fun and be the best person that I can be.
02:53 >> So you've come in, who's helped you get up to speed with the mental stuff of
02:57 being no one's on the app?
02:58 >> Troy Everett, Jacob Sexton, some of these guys and
03:04 these leaders have been helping me along the way.
03:05 GAs and the coaches have been helping me and just been asking questions.
03:11 But really everybody, I can learn from everybody.
03:14 So if I don't know something, I ask.
03:20 >> Just talking with Josh, what's that freshman class been like,
03:23 being able to get those guys?
03:26 >> Yeah, freshman class, they got some talent.
03:28 Josh Asosa, he's pretty good.
03:31 He got some good size and I'm excited to see what he do.
03:34 Isaiah Autry, he's a guy too.
03:37 I'm excited to see him.
03:38 And BJ Brooks, these guys are up to speed and I'm excited for them.
03:44 They got some talent and they work hard too.
03:47 But not only that, I feel like they're better people as well.
03:51 >> You with the stand master so far?
03:53 >> No, no, no, no, no.
03:55 I've been on time and everything, so I'm good on that, I'm straight.
04:00 >> Good with the lunches?
04:01 I was talking to Josh, sounds like easy way to get dinged over there,
04:04 stuff like that.
04:05 >> Yeah, I'm good with the lunches.
04:07 I love everything here.
04:08 The treatments, nutrition, recovery.
04:14 I've just been soaking all that up and using it to my advantage.
04:17 >> For you, obviously, you've got experience, big time college football,
04:22 this program making the transition to the SEC.
04:24 How important is that experience that you've got playing all the big time
04:28 ball at Michigan State being able to translate that?
04:30 >> The experience helps a lot just because I've seen certain looks.
04:35 I've seen different rushes.
04:36 I've seen different defenses.
04:38 But once again, it's a whole new league, so I'm still learning.
04:41 I don't think you ever arrive, especially at O-line.
04:44 It's always about constantly learning.
04:46 So for me, I approach everything as if I don't know it.
04:50 And go in as I move, try to learn as much as I can, and just keep getting better.
04:56 You never really arrive anywhere, so I don't really kinda,
05:02 I mean, I use my experience to my advantage, but
05:04 I still feel like I'm behind because I got so much work to do.
05:08 >> Now you wanna compete every day, obviously, in this tournament.
05:11 Are there any other things that you're trying to mentally,
05:13 I need to accomplish this, this or that this spring, is the practices?
05:16 >> I wanna accomplish the IQ of the game, my awareness,
05:22 understanding coverages, defenses, and different looks.
05:26 Being a better student of the game and improve my technique.
05:31 That's the main thing, become more flexible.
05:34 It's a lot of things, but just attack everything one day at a time.
05:38 Be the best teammate I can be, better person off the field.
05:42 I'm just trying to contribute and add value to the team.
05:44 That's pretty much it.
