Could the Saints draft a tight end? Is it a need that we're overlooking right now?

00:00 wide receiver. Maybe I could also make the case for tight end too. I think actually there's a
00:05 stronger case to be made for tight end too. But those two, I feel like when you look at the draft
00:10 and free agency, those are probably the areas that you're going to have to look at for this team.
00:14 Yeah. I did a show on Locked On yesterday on Saturday that was like, the Saints might not
00:21 have a tight end need, but they have a Penn State tight end Theo Johnson need. I'm all in on this,
00:27 dude. I have been for a little while, but then after seeing him at the combine, obviously his
00:32 testing numbers are great, but watching him drive the sled, watching him run the routes, watching
00:37 him run the gauntlet, all these other things, seeing the on-field drills, I think tells you a
00:41 lot about these players and their abilities. I love now that they added, if you've watched in
00:45 the telecast, you can see the miles per hour, sorry for international viewers, but the miles
00:50 per hour that they get to as they go through and everything like that. I think that just gives you
00:54 so much more understanding of game speed and things like that, how quickly somebody can jump from
00:59 11 miles an hour to 17 miles an hour to 20 miles an hour in a matter of two catches and turning
01:06 your body and all these other things, all these pieces. I think tight end is a spot that you are
01:12 probably looking for some more talent. Let me not say that that way. Let me say it this way.
01:17 I think you're definitely looking for more talent at tight end because right now you've
01:19 only got a pair of guys, right? You got John Johnson, you got Foster Moreau, but then who
01:24 are your other guys that you're bringing in to compete? You can find some undrafted guys,
01:28 Tip Ryman out of Illinois might be a late round undrafted guy. There's another kid out of Arizona
01:34 that looks really good as well. There's the tight end, Wiley coming out of TCC. There's a bunch of
01:39 these guys that are going to be later round draft picks that you might be able to roll around to
01:45 in the post draft process of undrafted free agency, much like Lucas Kroll a couple of years
01:50 ago, which they had a lot of high hopes for, but unfortunately just couldn't find his way
01:54 onto the roster. Then found his way back to Sean Payton over in Denver for a bit.
01:59 Not for a bit, but he finished a season there. I think he's on contract for 2024 there as well.
02:03 I think the tight end is a place where I wouldn't be surprised to see the Saints go. I don't think
02:07 that they go there super early. I think that that's a, maybe they trade up into the third
02:12 or fourth or they wait at the fifth to sort of figure out like who's there. I have a really
02:17 hard time seeing this, like imagining this team sit through rounds three and four without doing
02:21 something, you know what I mean? But especially with all those compensatory selections, but
02:26 I do think that there's a lot of opportunity in this tight end class to sit back and wait and
02:33 still be able to bring in somebody that could easily be your third tight end for his rookie
02:37 season and then maybe develop into more. It's great segue. You actually stole a little bit
02:41 of my thunder, which is not a bad thing. So we, Hey, we got those wavelengths that are going there.
02:47 And so I was thinking that too, because at 14 and 45, again, that's the two picks you have.
02:51 And then you're not going to have anything for a while, right? There's projected to have at
02:55 least three compensatory picks and those look like they're going to be fifth rounders. And so
03:00 that was Davenport. It was on your Mata and, yeah, so there's three that they're projected
03:07 to get compensatory picks for. So again, they could use those. It's more ammo to trade up.
