00:00 Well here we are again, it's Clean Up Australia Day.
00:02 People right across Tasmania and indeed the nation
00:06 are cleaning up after big corporations with our single-use plastic issue.
00:10 This is not the job of the community and everyday people.
00:14 This is a consequence of a monumental failure within the government.
00:18 In 2021, every state and territory right across Australia
00:22 committed to banning single-use plastic.
00:27 Tasmania still hasn't done it.
00:29 Where's our container recycling scheme?
00:33 Every other state and territory at least has a time frame for the ban in place.
00:37 Tasmania still doesn't.
00:39 This is an absolute shame. We used to be a leader in this space.
00:43 It was 2003 when Coles Bay banned non-biodegradable plastic bags.
00:49 Not a lot has happened in this space since.
00:51 This is absolutely why we need the Greens in the balance of power
00:55 to take action on single-use plastics
00:58 to get the government to take action on single-use plastic bans in Tasmania
01:03 for the environment and for the people and the community
01:05 for the health of our oceans and our environment as well.
01:09 Thank you.
