00:00The brigade competitions are a fun way for us to prepare for a really serious business.
00:05We help to make summer safer by getting our firefighters involved in competitions like this.
00:10It sharpens their skills, they get an opportunity to work as a team and they get to know some of
00:14the other brigades from around the state that they might be working with when there's a big
00:19campaign fire on. It's also a wonderful way for us to get our juniors involved. Some of the best
00:24firefighters that we have in our service were junior firefighters back in the day. Even the
00:28commissioner's competed here on the fire ground in his time and so we really use this as an
00:33opportunity to develop our young people. Certainly it's about the teamwork and the bonding you know
00:39working under pressure but also having a bit of a good time about it as well. Certainly you know
00:44everyone goes to incidents and they are stressful and this is part of that team building and making
00:50sure people are prepared. It's all part of gathering the experience of being a volunteer.
00:56Certainly you know just putting on their PPC, making sure it's fit for purpose,
01:01ensuring that they are getting prepared both from that competition side which
01:07puts a bit of pressure on them so when they do attend an incident
01:10that preparation is getting them in good stead for the actual incident.
