00:00A 31-year-old man, Alan Chem, has been charged with two counts of domestic violence related
00:07murder for the alleged killing of his two parents in a takeaway store behind me here
00:13in Cambridge Park in Western Sydney.
00:16The bodies of a 68-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man were discovered by a family member yesterday
00:24morning in the takeaway store.
00:27Police were called to the scene and they said that when they arrived it was a confronting
00:31scene with significant injuries to both of those bodies.
00:36Mr Chem was arrested at a home in Candley Heights, also in Sydney's west, this morning
00:41and taken into police custody.
00:43He appeared in the Parramatta local court.
00:45His legal representative didn't apply for bail but did indicate that mental health may
00:50form a part of this case.
00:53He's expected to reappear in court in January and he'll remain in custody until then.
01:00But as for the community here in Cambridge Park, there are a growing number of floral
01:05tributes here.
01:06People are coming to terms with the deaths of two people with whom they had contact for
01:11a long time.
01:12This couple ran this takeaway shop for several decades and they're remembered very fondly
01:19in the community as being warm, kind and hardworking.
01:23I spoke to a number of people here, including one woman, Susan, who actually worked for
01:27the couple and says that she was shocked and devastated by the news.
01:31I've been here 58 years and this is the worst thing that's ever happened here.
01:36They meant quite a lot to the community and we're all very heartbroken and sad.
01:41It's just devastating for such a nice couple.
01:44The community here in Cambridge Park has probably lost one of the two most loving individuals
01:50that have served the community for decades.
01:54People here in Cambridge Park have also indicated that they'll be organising a vigil for the
01:58couple for everyone here who knew them and feels impacted by this loss to come together
02:04next weekend in the park just across the road.
02:09And they say that that'll be an opportunity for people to grieve and pay their respects
02:13to a much-loved couple.
