00:00 This is from Heather Denich and Pete Thamel from ESPN.
00:03 Heather Denich is pretty much ironed on on the playoff committee.
00:07 Anything that's happening about the playoff, I think it's her.
00:10 Anything that's happening around the generality of college sports?
00:14 I think it's Pete Thamel, OK?
00:17 But their article on ESPN yesterday
00:19 or last night said 14 college football playoff has momentum.
00:24 OK, that's cool.
00:27 I like the idea of momentum, I guess.
00:30 The expected boost in off auto, automatic qualification spot
00:34 so soon after the start of the five AQ spots in the 12 team playoff.
00:38 That starts this season is a nod to the changing conference dynamics.
00:44 It's also a nod to the SEC and the Big Ten.
00:47 Kind of throwing their weight around, but that's that's another discussion.
00:51 According to sources, the model that has earned the most discussion
00:55 coming out of the college football meeting in Dallas
00:57 is one that would include three automatic qualifier spots
01:01 for the Big Ten and SEC.
01:04 Two for the Big 12 and ACC and one for the group of five,
01:08 which only has three at large spots.
01:11 All right.
01:11 Now, if we're going to talk about the playoff.
01:14 The Big 12 and the ACC, they only need one automatic qualifier.
01:18 They're that single big bid league.
01:20 The group of five has no business being in the tournament
01:24 and you should have six auto at large births.
01:27 Three Big Ten, three SEC.
01:29 That that's that would make the most sense to me.
01:32 But this isn't the reason that we're doing this.
01:35 Another source summoned some cautious
01:40 optimism of cohesion in the group this way.
01:44 The balance in the room is how to recognize the contributions
01:48 of the Big Ten and the SEC while also being fair and collaborative
01:51 to the collective room.
01:53 There's three major issues going forward.
01:55 Access to automatic qualification, which like I said, I am the person
02:00 that would take 12 at large bids and be fine.
02:02 The division of money, the SEC and the Big Ten deserve more
02:05 and how the group will be governed.
02:08 This is where it gets interesting how the group will be governed.
02:11 And in term, how college sports are going to be governed.
02:18 Sources caution that discussions are ongoing and fluid
02:21 and there's still work being done in these three major issues.
02:24 These are where things currently stand with sources saying things could change.
02:29 Here we go.
02:31 Says the modeling is tricky as college sports remaining moving target,
02:36 this ESPN deal will run through 2031, and it'd be naive to think
02:41 the conference map will look the same as it does today.
02:43 One high ranking official involved in the discussions told ESPN on Wednesday
02:48 that the presidents and chancellors in both the SEC and Big Ten,
02:53 the presidents and chancellors in the SEC and Big Ten are having conversations
02:58 about whether to continue their NCAA membership,
03:03 a move that would impact and possibly derail the TV agreement.
03:07 They're doing a story, OK, on the 14th playoff.
03:10 This nugget trumps anything they've talked about.
