As stormy weather subsides in California, problems may arise from the Midwest to the East Coast this Thursday when a storm starts to gather moisture.
Transcript
00:00 feet of mountain snow in northern
00:02 California has made travel tricky.
00:03 If not possible at times,
00:05 especially here along Donner Pass,
00:07 you can see the traffic build up
00:09 yesterday as heavy snow was still
00:11 coming down, but Jeff and Justin,
00:13 they were just talking about the
00:15 latest round of storms in California
00:17 coming to an end so travels improving
00:20 greatly as we head into our Thursday.
00:22 And with that we want to check out
00:24 the national travel outlook,
00:26 which does show the storm system
00:28 off towards the east, gathering.
00:30 Some moisture as we head throughout the day,
00:32 so there are going to be some
00:34 concerns for some heavy rain,
00:35 not only through the morning hours,
00:37 but also then some thunderstorms
00:38 into the afternoon and evening.
00:40 Denver, though you can see one of
00:42 our spots with rain and snow showers,
00:44 creating some minor delays through the morning.
00:46 Otherwise,
00:46 Central Tier the nation looking pretty quiet.
00:48 Good news in Minneapolis.
00:49 We've got some sunshine out there,
00:51 but still not all that cold.
00:52 Meanwhile,
00:53 the southeast where we're watching
00:54 the concern for delays will be in
00:56 Nashville afternoon thunderstorms
00:57 will rumble through here,
00:58 so that's going to be more of
01:00 our threat for a drive home.
01:01 Meanwhile,
01:02 as we take you into places like Detroit,
01:04 some rain showers,
01:05 minor delays will also have more
01:06 significant concerns in Indianapolis
01:08 and Columbus where puddling and
01:09 ponding will be a factor on the
01:11 roads there as some of the heavy
01:13 rain comes down will take you
01:15 into the northeast and Boston.
01:16 Still good,
01:17 you're ahead of the storm system.
01:19 You don't quite see it throughout
01:20 your Thursday tomorrow though.
01:22 Buffalo will get in on some of that rain,
01:24 which means we will have some
01:26 travel delays there and some minor
01:28 afternoon delays in Washington DC.
01:30 Baltimore as that rain lifts its way
01:32 towards Philadelphia late in the day.
01:34 Red light concerns will be Columbus
01:36 and Indianapolis for the morning.
01:37 Plus Saint Louis,
01:38 you're going to have rain at times
01:41 and it will certainly be something
01:43 that could slow you down in a few spots.
01:45 Like cancellations.
01:47 For this,
01:48 we typically find flight cancellation
01:50 somewhere between 50 to 100 on a
01:53 fairly typical winter day and you can
01:55 see Friday we're at 9080 for a lot
01:57 of the weekend so flight cancellations.
02:00 Not a huge factor,
02:01 at least according to weather.
02:02 Of course,
02:03 anytime,
02:03 anywhere they can have some
02:05 other issues with the airlines,
02:06 but weather wise we should be smooth
02:08 sailing for the next five days with flights.
