00:00 Thanks, Prioy. Thank you for the advice on how to fight the issue of deepfakes.
00:06 Meanwhile, this morning, we have a special guest with us.
00:11 She's a veteran broadcaster and journalist, former PTV News anchor,
00:15 who's really making her name in the media.
00:18 She will share her #KwentongPTV.
00:23 We have live with us former Cebu City Councilor, Brigadier General Commander
00:27 of the 1901st Ready Reserve Brigade Army of Region 7.
00:31 For the Philippine Army, Sir Eric Espina, good morning to you.
00:35 Good morning.
00:37 May you be blessed with health, may you be blessed with wealth,
00:40 may you be blessed with many children, may you rest in peace.
00:43 May you be blessed with good health, may you be blessed with good health.
00:47 And we should not forget,
00:49 "Bismillah, Rahman, Rahim, As-Salamu Alaykum, Ra'am, Matulay, Talam, Murakatu."
00:53 So no one will get angry at us.
00:54 That's great.
00:55 But okay, Sir Eric, what is your #KwentongPTV?
00:59 And how did you start here as a news anchor?
01:02 Well, the first, you know here in our country, multitasking,
01:06 and that's the greatest thing for PTV.
01:08 I did the 1 o'clock, "Balita la una, las dos, las tres, the breaks."
01:13 And then from there, I went to "Panguna ng Balita," which was 6 o'clock.
01:16 I did both Tagalog and English.
01:18 And Saturdays, I did the 45-minute alone news, and you know how that is.
01:24 And our teleprompter was like the size of a typewriter.
01:27 Wow! I'm so nervous.
01:29 Yes, and with these kinds of teleprompters, you don't make a mistake with those sizes.
01:33 And what else?
01:34 I was able to do a lot of shows here, coast to coast.
01:38 I was able to do also public affairs, current affairs, and then news, and then production.
01:47 Even "Damayan."
01:48 Oh, with Mommy Rose. I called her Mommy Rose.
01:51 And then, of course, a lot of things.
01:55 And then special report, "Komilek Hour."
01:57 I had even presidentials, even Ambassador Danding Cuangco, Nurul Haji, Ding Dang Halimiswari.
02:08 And of course, Mayor Lito Atienza, of course, who is good at speaking, just like his son.
02:15 So, what are the most memorable experiences you had in historical coverage, historical events?
02:22 Centennial, and then Bandi Nur.
02:25 That was an experience because it's very difficult to come up with what's happening if you're just in the studio and you're not right in Malacanang.
02:34 So, it's tough to look at the television and try to narrate because it's different when you're there.
02:41 You can smell, you can see the people around you, you can talk about the entire environment.
02:45 But when it's just the TV in front of you and you're supposed to speak up, that's really tough.
02:51 A lot of good experiences from Channel 4.
02:54 It opens a lot of doors and a lot of windows.
02:57 It opens doors for different opportunities in different areas of our life.
03:08 So, it's a continuum, backwards and forwards, always.
03:12 So, right now, I'm the lead convener of 20 radio commentators in Cebu.
03:21 I do what's called an open line media forum in Cebu, where all the major television representatives in Cebu are present.
03:29 PTV is there, and all the others which I will not mention, and the local print media as well as radio.
03:37 So, that's every Tuesday.
03:39 I already had a guest, President Bongbong Marcos.
03:44 Senator Imey was there among so many others when they come to Cebu.
03:50 Cebu is like Manila.
03:53 Okay, so, there are so many memorable experiences for you here in PTV.
03:57 But for you, what do you treasure the most?
04:00 The coverage, the interview?
04:02 You really want to know?
04:03 Yes.
04:04 It's the people.
04:05 It's the people, the employees.
04:07 Bong here, the production, the directors.
04:10 This is the lifeblood of the station.
04:13 People like you.
04:14 You are the ones who continue the work of sharing knowledge.
04:20 So, it's not just the event.
04:22 It's the people that cover the events.
04:25 You know, the people that you don't see in front of the camera as well.
04:29 Props.
04:30 By the way, don't stay too long in the set.
04:33 Because we used to joke that if you stay too long, you will also be brought props.
04:38 Just joking.
04:40 Okay.
04:41 Sir Eric, what advice do you have for our viewers here in the industry, here in PTV?
04:46 What lesson did you learn in PTV?
04:49 What do you want to share with younger broadcasters and journalists?
04:52 Don't focus on being popular.
04:55 Because I know a lot of people who are batched.
04:59 Not from PTV.
05:00 They are from PTV and they are now moving.
05:03 They wear their title on their heads.
05:07 You wear it in your heart.
05:09 And then it will shine through.
05:10 They will see the sincerity in your interviews especially.
05:13 You make them smile.
05:15 You make them shed a tear.
05:17 It becomes authentic.
05:20 And then, I hope you try it one time.
05:24 You're interviewing six or seven people.
05:26 And you're very careful about managing a one-hour show.
05:30 You will see the rise and the tempo of the interview.
05:33 You will see the symphony of how it's being carried.
05:36 But the most important thing is continue to read, read, read, and learn.
05:40 So that you don't only tackle the introductory questions, the basic foundational questions.
05:45 But you're able to tackle the policy questions.
05:48 Not only for today but next five years.
05:50 But for the next generations to come.
05:53 Which you will be able to ask.
05:55 Those are some good advice, right?
05:57 Yes, actually, such words of wisdom.
05:59 At the same time, I'm personally learning so much from you, Sir Eric.
06:03 Well, one of your relatives is also with us in PTV.
06:07 Charms Espina.
06:09 Yes, yes.
06:10 Alright, we're celebrating 50 years here in People's Television.
06:15 What message do you want to convey to the other members of PTV?
06:19 I hope that PTV will be a mirror of discussion and cooperation of our government in the Filipino people.
06:30 The responsibility and the food that we need to reach is heavy.
06:35 So that the people can understand what programs and policies are being implemented by our government.
06:42 And not only the government now, if not the government will come.
06:46 Because PTV is an institution.
06:48 No one owns it if not the Filipino people.
06:52 Remember the term "Inarticulate Filipinos".
06:56 You are the voice, you are the one who can speak.
06:59 So that the Filipino people can feel that they can't be held back.
07:09 The bit and whispers of our people has to be heard.
07:13 And you are that face and the people around PTV.
07:16 Well, we are proud to say that you became a part of PTV.
07:23 And actually, your companions here in PTV are saying that Sir Eric Espina will return to PTV.
07:30 They are very proud that you became a part of PTV.
07:32 We don't have a bad bread.
07:34 Because our coffee is still hot.
07:36 Because at the end of the day, it's the coffee that we share and the good conversation of the members.
07:40 Thank you so much Sir Eric for visiting us despite your busy schedule.
07:46 Thank you so much.
07:48 And such words of wisdom that we will carry all throughout our lives.
07:52 Thank you so much.
07:53 Thank you very much. Long live PTV.
07:54 Thank you for sharing your #KwentongPTV here in Rise and Shine Philippines.
07:59 Again, thank you so much Sir Eric Espina.
08:01 to Caspita.
