Immigration nabs five foreigners for illegally collecting donations at Gelang Patah night market

Foreigners, including some who are disabled have been hauled up by the Johor Immigration Department after being found collecting donations at a night market in Gelang Patah.on Tuesday (Jan 30).

The raid was conducted based on information from the public about foreigners posing as donation collectors.

00:11 Johor Immigration Director Baharudin Tahir said five of them were detained on Tuesday
00:17 in a joint operation with the Johor Bahru Social Welfare Department and State Islamic Religious Department.
00:23 The raid was conducted based on information from the public about foreigners posing as donation collectors.
00:30 Those detained were all men, three from Cambodia who suffer from various disabilities and two from Thailand.
00:37 A man and a woman from Indonesia were also detained at the night market for working at the stall illegally.
00:44 Meanwhile in a separate raid, 40 foreigners from Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, India and Cambodia
00:51 were detained in several hotspots on Monday and Tuesday.
00:55 The suspects, aged from 21 to 49 years old, were detained around Johor Bahru, Merseng, Batu Pahat and Segamat.
01:03 They were believed to be working without permits and have overstayed in the country.
