00:00 Last night was the Royal Rumble, and you had better believe we're excited for WrestleMania.
00:05 Who could have thought that MJF would actually jump ship and win the Royal Rumble?
00:08 Really makes you think Cody should have won last year, but c'est la vie.
00:11 WWE have nailed the Royal Rumble many, many times, and while a smartly-booked Rumble does
00:17 not guarantee a smartly-booked Mania, or vice versa, everybody loves coming away from the
00:21 Royal Rumble feeling like they've just seen the best wrestling night of the year.
00:25 This won't be a list of just WWE picking the right winners, although you may see a
00:29 couple of those as well, and this won't be a list of best performances.
00:32 We've done the times WWE got the Rumble wrong, but these are the times WWE's decision
00:37 making during the Royal Rumble was at its very best.
00:40 I'm Tebbis Haling from PartsFunKnown, and these are 12 Times WWE Got The Royal Rumble
00:45 Right.
00:46 Wow, I can't believe I've watched everything on every available streaming service.
00:51 I wonder what I'll do now.
00:56 I'm sure my computer doesn't need any added protection.
00:59 Cybercriminals are a myth.
01:05 And I've done it!
01:06 I've hacked into the Chinese government servers, and now to mess around a bit.
01:13 Uh, hey guys, everything alright?
01:19 I've got no more content to watch.
01:21 I've realised that cybercriminals are very real, and my data is unprotected.
01:24 I've hacked into the Chinese government and I didn't protect my IP address.
01:28 I just wanted to mess around a bit.
01:30 Guys, guys, guys.
01:31 It sounds like you need Surfshark VPN.
01:34 Surfshark VPN?
01:36 No, it's Surfshark VPN.
01:39 It's a really big brand, guys.
01:43 Can't believe you haven't heard of them.
01:48 Surfshark will let you watch shows that are content restricted in your country, they'll
01:51 protect your data and your IP address, and you can get an exclusive Surfshark VPN winter
01:56 deal!

02:02 Wow, Sullivan, you just saved us all from a horrible fate.
02:05 Don't thank me, boys.
02:08 Thanks Surfshark VPN.
02:10 Surfshark VPN.
02:12 #12 AJ Styles Debut
02:15 AJ Styles walking through the curtain to make his way into a WWE ring was something many
02:20 of us never thought we would see.
02:22 And then it happened.
02:23 And we couldn't see it!
02:24 A snowstorm on the East Coast meant many of WWE's production staff couldn't make it
02:28 to Orlando for the Royal Rumble, and thus we had production snafus like this one, where
02:33 instead of seeing the slow reveal of AJ Styles' titan-tron, we watched Roman's dumb little
02:37 face.
02:38 Just like every first year production major, they fixed it in post.
02:42 The snafu lands this low on the list, but AJ entering at number three and going on to
02:47 have an excellent debut remains one of the all-time great Royal Rumble surprises.
02:52 #11 Triple H and Mick Foley Square Off
02:55 There have been loads of examples of WWE having former rivals go toe-to-toe in the Royal Rumble
03:00 match.
03:01 Some good, like Shawn and Marty, or Kevin and Sami, some bad, like Cena and Orton.
03:06 But my all-time favorite will always have to be Triple H and Mick Foley battling it
03:10 out in the 2008 Royal Rumble.
03:13 Not only was it a fun callback to one of the best feuds of the Attitude Era, but this
03:16 gets bonus points for taking place in Madison Square Garden, the same venue that Cactus
03:21 and Trips had their legendary street fight eight years earlier.
03:25 It makes the match feel a little more grand.
03:28 Speaking of old rivals, I would have included Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka's face off in
03:31 the same Rumble, but went with Triple H and Mick Foley instead, because neither of them
03:35 killed anyone, you see.
03:37 #10 Ty Dillinger
03:38 He's the perfect ten?
03:39 People wanted to see him come out at number ten, then he came out at number ten.
03:43 And people were happy.
03:44 Sometimes it is that simple.
03:46 #9 The Three Faces of Foley
03:48 The list of people to compete multiple times in a Royal Rumble in one night is only two
03:52 names long.
03:53 It's Nia Jax, who will not be featured on this list, and Mick Foley, who famously entered
03:58 the 1998 Royal Rumble three times with each of his aliases.
04:02 I like to think that these numbers were drawn after each elimination.
04:06 Like Cactus gets eliminated second and went "Sh*t, let me grab my mask," gets number
04:10 16 in the last two minutes and says "F*ck, alright, one more."
04:13 It's simple fun, really.
04:15 It's cute.
04:16 I like that.
04:17 #8 CM Punk's Sermon
04:18 I maintain that from a strictly entertainment standpoint, Straight Edge Society's CM
04:23 Punk is the best work of his WWE career.
04:25 It was a short run with a load of hits, with the favorite of many coming in the Royal Rumble.
04:30 WWE had Punk enter third, immediately eliminate Dolph Ziggler and Evan Bourne, and then deliver
04:35 his most famous sermon, offering to save the likes of The Great Khali and Zack Ryder.
04:40 It was a perfect exhibition for his character and set up the first third of the 2010 Royal
04:44 Rumble to be unique, fun and cathartic when Punk finally got thrown out.
04:49 The 2010 Rumble is a good one, and this is a large part of it.
04:52 #7 Chris Jericho's Return
04:53 Often when we see a Royal Rumble return, the moment is reserved for numbers 25-30.
04:58 Understandable as you probably want to build anticipation for such a moment throughout
05:02 the match, but in 2013 we were shown that there can be another way.
05:06 After Dolph Ziggler was forced to enter the Royal Rumble first, Pyro went off signaling
05:10 the arrival of Chris Jericho.
05:12 Jericho had been forced to leave WWE when he lost a match to Ziggler in August, so an
05:16 immediate surprise pop and a perfect adversary for Ziggler's prospective Iron Man run was
05:21 an excellent start to the Royal Rumble match.
05:23 The longer the Rumble has existed, the harder it has been to be surprised in new ways, but
05:27 Jericho's return was one of those moments.
05:30 #6 Gunther Breaks The Iron Man Record, Is Still A Monster
05:34 Every time I bring up the 2023 Men's Rumble, I have people saying that Cody should have
05:39 been number 1 and Gunther should have been number 30, and respectfully, I disagree.
05:44 Cody entering last when everyone knew he was coming kept anyone from believing that Sami
05:48 Zayn would be there, avoiding a Daniel Bryan situation in the smartest way possible.
05:52 Besides, look at Gunther and his performance in this match, a performance that obliterated
05:57 the regular Royal Rumble Iron Man record, and tell me he didn't come out of this match
06:01 looking even more like a monster.
06:03 Gunther was added to the record books, his performance added to his aura, and nobody
06:07 had anything negative to say about Cody when he walked the aisle at WrestleMania.
06:11 It didn't hurt him at all, and honestly, it's the booking of Gunther and Cody that
06:15 has me thinking that this is probably the smartest booked Royal Rumble we have seen
06:20 thus far.
06:21 #5 Rhea Ripley & Bianca Belair There was debate over whether to put Bianca
06:25 Belair's Royal Rumble win in 2021 or Rhea Ripley's win in 2023 on this list, as both
06:31 were the perfect choices for each of those Rumbles.
06:33 But ultimately, we decided to combine them in a sense and highlight both of their performances
06:38 in the 2021 Royal Rumble match.
06:40 Using the Royal Rumble to elevate young stars is something that has happened shockingly
06:44 infrequently over the last 35 years, but every once in a while, the Rumble acts as a looking
06:49 glass into the future of WWE.
06:51 Bianca Belair entering at number 3 with a 57-minute Iron Woman performance and Rhea
06:56 Ripley entering at 14 and eliminating 7 people en route to ultimately being the final two
07:01 before Bianca finally got the win gave a lot of people hope that you didn't have to be
07:06 a horsewoman to make it to the top of WWE.
07:09 And sure enough, you just have to look at who walked out at WrestleMania 37 with the
07:13 two women's titles, and for that matter, WrestleMania 39 as well.
07:18 #4 The All Japan Rumble The title of this entry may mislead you, but
07:22 let there be no confusion, neither Asuka nor Shinsuke Nakamura came from All Japan Pro Wrestling.
07:27 It was, however, a good night for Japanese WWE stars when WWE picked the perfect winners
07:32 for their first ever Royal Rumble double feature in 2018.
07:36 Shinsuke Nakamura was beloved by that audience, I could tell I was there, and a Nakamura win
07:41 washed away the taste of a string of poor Rumble winners.
07:44 And really, there were no other options for the first women's Royal Rumble match than
07:49 Asuka.
07:50 They were the two perfect winners on that night, and WWE hit the bullseye they so often
07:55 miss.
07:56 You can't win without Stephanie McMahon's robotic soundboard commentary or Ronda Rousey's
08:00 overshadowing of the first women's Rumble, but ask anyone and odds are they will heap
08:04 very deserved praise onto the 2018 Royal Rumble event, and sometimes all that takes is the
08:10 right winners being chosen.
08:12 #3 From Spinal Surgery to WrestleMania If the 2018 Royal Rumble event isn't your
08:18 favorite, odds are it's 2001.
08:20 While I could certainly praise all of the aspects of the brilliant '01 Rumble from
08:25 the famous Drew Carey spot that is actually funny, to Kane's record-setting rampage,
08:30 to the roster of all-time greats involved, but nothing sets this match apart quite like
08:34 the perfect winner at the perfect time.
08:37 With the WWF hotter than it had ever been, and the Royal Rumble serving as the start
08:41 of the greatest three-pay-per-view stretch in company history, there was only one winner
08:45 that would fit that level of greatness.
08:47 Stone Cold Steve Austin, back from neck surgery, winning the Royal Rumble match and punching
08:52 his ticket to what would be at that time the most successful WrestleMania of all time,
08:57 is just the sort of thing that makes you yearn for the days of old when this shit was just
09:02 f*cking awesome.
09:04 Things are looking up these days, but the 2001 Royal Rumble from start to finish was
09:09 perfect, and Austin smashing the beer cans together to close the show will forever be
09:14 embedded in my mind as a perfect snapshot of pro wrestling.
09:18 Now let me tell you, that was all that was getting us through some of those dark years.
09:22 We had a lot of them.
09:23 Number 2.
09:24 The 2020 Men's Rumble (General) A husband and wife are driving down the road
09:28 in Kentucky.
09:29 They're starting to get hungry.
09:30 The wife asks if they can stop and get something to eat.
09:32 The husband weighs their options.
09:34 He asks if she has a preference.
09:35 She looks down the road, sees a mascot raising a plate, and says "Ooh, big boy."
09:40 The only Royal Rumble match to feature as an entry on this list in full is the 2020
09:44 Men's Rumble.
09:45 A brilliantly paced match that was able to tell multiple stories one after another while
09:50 holding the interest of the audience, the 2020 Men's Rumble is an achievement of WWE
09:55 storytelling.
09:56 It may have been simple storytelling, have a big badass guy try to run the gauntlet until
10:00 he runs out of steam and gets eliminated by his next challenger, but sometimes simple
10:04 storytelling is the most effective.
10:06 And that's just the first half of the match.
10:08 That isn't even touching the return of Edge after 9 years, or the crowning of Drew McIntyre
10:13 as Rumble winner, or Seth Rollins entering last with his Goon Squad.
10:16 It is a brilliant Royal Rumble match and deserves to be recognized in full.
10:21 And Number 1 - The Man Comes Around
10:24 WWE really screwed the pooch when it came to the groundswell of support Daniel Bryan
10:29 received when it came time for the Royal Rumble.
10:31 2014 and 2015 were learning experiences for them, and when the next emerging superstar
10:36 appeared, they cashed in on that fan support with Becky Lynch winning the 2019 Royal Rumble.
10:41 It's not often that you can say WWE learned from their mistake, but when there was only
10:45 one winner that was going to provide a satisfying conclusion to the 2019 Royal Rumble match,
10:50 they didn't balk.
10:51 Have there been better Rumble matches?
10:53 Absolutely.
10:54 But if you ask if there has ever been a better choice to win a specific Royal Rumble match,
10:59 I genuinely don't think I could give you an answer.
11:01 I mean the monstrous pop when Finlay gives his fellow Irish person the orange, white,
11:05 and green light should be answer enough.
11:07 We as fans may not always get what we want, but I pray that every Royal Rumble winner
11:14 will be as satisfying as the time the man came around.
11:18 And that's our list.
