00:00 In Venezuela, per the Barbados Agreement, the Supreme Court of Justice has ruled to
00:03 review the sentence to disqualify nine politicians from elected office due to pending corruption
00:09 charges and their alleged involvement in serious acts against the nation.
00:13 Madeleine Garcia has the story.
00:14 Venezuela's Supreme Court made an official announcement through its
00:21 ex-account saying that according to Venezuelan constitution and law,
00:25 in keeping with the Barbados Agreement, the Court's political administrative chamber
00:30 would proceed to publish the ruling of the disqualification of several candidates.
00:35 The Barbados Agreement, which was finally signed last October, gave way to nine court
00:44 provisions to promote and guarantee political and electoral rights. Jorge Rodriguez, who headed the
00:50 government's delegation to the talks, posted on his social media that the agreement allows all
00:55 sides to verify the implementation of such guarantees and to oversee the Supreme Court's
01:00 flawless performance. Two of the candidates okayed so far are Leosenis Garcia and Daniel Ceballos,
01:16 who had this to say.
01:20 I submit myself to this court and to this agreement between the government and the opposition
01:26 because we are trying to build a way out to the crisis
01:32 and we have to submit ourselves to our institutions.
01:36 And to come here to mutually acknowledge each other, also those of us in the opposition who
01:43 have complaints about not having been okayed, we are still bound by the Barbados Agreement
01:47 to acknowledge the institutions. The Supreme Court of Justice ratified the disqualification of
01:53 Enrique Capriles Radonski, who since 2017 is under investigation for alleged acts of corruption,
02:00 and that of Maria Corina Machado for serious crimes against the nation, including complicity
02:05 with Juan Guaido in corruption charges over the theft of the Sitco and Monomeros companies,
02:12 and for having advocated for sanctions and for an illegal blockade against Venezuela,
02:17 which prevented the country from importing medicines, among other things.
02:21 Over the past five days, five conspiracies have been dismantled involving some extreme right
02:28 politicians linked to elements trying to kill the president and to destabilize the country.
02:33 The Venezuelan president, in his program podcast with Maduro, said that the Barbados Agreement
02:37 has been breached, but that the government is clinging to dialogue.
02:42 In spite of this, Venezuela will go forward in peace, with effort, for a comprehensive recovery,
02:52 and we will continue with something vital for us, which is dialogue, social dialogue,
02:57 human dialogue. First of all, listening to our people. That's the number one thing. We will
03:04 dialogue with all business sectors to continue working to boost the productive forces. We want
03:11 to dialogue with all political sectors, with everyone, with that democratic opposition
03:17 that respects the Constitution, for luckily there are such people, among which new leadership is
03:25 emerging. President Maduro had National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez as guest in his podcast.
03:32 Rodriguez denounced once again the hidden violent agenda of the opposition, who on the one hand,
03:38 have signed the agreement while still getting involved in conspiracies.
03:42 Through 2019 and 2020, there were at least 20 denounced cases like the failed assassination
03:51 attempt on August 4, 2018, which involved the training of mercenaries in paramilitary camps
03:58 in Colombia. There have also been psychological warfare operations
04:03 and the civil sabotage against the Venezuelan electric grid.
04:07 In only three years, 25 destabilizing operations have been dismantled,
04:14 including seven assassination attempts. OK in opposition candidates is part of the roadmap for
04:19 the 2024 presidential elections to hold them in peace and in keeping with the Barbados Agreement.
