00:00 So Newcastle United threw the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in four years
00:05 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Fulham and it really was, I think comfortable might actually
00:09 be the wrong word, I think it was comfortable by the end of the game, by the last ten minutes
00:12 you could see Fulham were tired, you could see they were a bit of a disjointed team after
00:16 making seven changes before the game, you could see that they really, you know, they
00:20 threw all their eggs in one basket, they you know certainly went for it in the midweek
00:22 and you could tell that this wasn't really their priority with their game against Everton
00:26 especially come next week but to Newcastle, you know, it wasn't the best first half for
00:30 them, actually I think Fulham were probably better in the first half but they got their
00:33 opener through Longstaff, a fantastic goal to be fair, you've got to give them lots of
00:37 credit, it was a brilliant effort, a bit of pinball in the box and Longstaff both felt
00:42 them smash the toe on the volley and yeah he's just doing media over my shoulder there
00:47 so yeah he was certainly one of the, I wouldn't say stand out performers but again no one
00:52 really shone, it was a weird afternoon, I think, or evening, sorry, Newcastle were decent,
00:57 they did what they needed to do, they got the win and in cup competitions to be fair
01:00 that's all you need to do, they're into the fifth round, you can't ask for more than that
01:03 but did any of them really stand out? Probably not, did any of them play particularly badly?
01:07 Probably not either, I think it was one of them days, a lot of, I see my colleagues Dom
01:11 Scurr's rating but a lot of sixes and sevens and that's all it was, yeah, the second half,
01:16 I think Newcastle were better in the second half, they got their grips with it more, Fulham
01:20 had a couple of chances but never really tested the Bradfordshire team which, there was never
01:24 a point where they were, you know, really testing and putting Newcastle defence under
01:29 sustained pressure and Newcastle got their goal, again, as I said, peaceful, Botman with
01:34 a brilliant header, good save by Roderick and Burn was first there to react, smash it
01:38 home against his old team and all of a sudden Newcastle turned it up and that was it really,
01:42 I think, there was no way, you didn't sense Fulham would come back, I mean if they'd got
01:45 a goal that match would have changed, they could have felt a bit of belief but it didn't
01:48 really look like that and then that was it, Newcastle saw out the game very well, Eddie
01:52 Howe didn't make any changes so the 75th minute, only did a couple in the end and with Villa
01:57 coming up maybe he might, maybe not regret that but maybe he might feel that he could
02:02 have made some other changes but, you know, there'll be 4,000 fans going home happy after
02:07 being, you know, the kick-off time, more travel back on trains, etc, so it's good to see them
02:13 go back happy and Newcastle are in it the next round, simple as that, they'll be hoping
02:17 for an EZ Cup draw, it's not something that's going to happen too often this season with
02:21 Sunderland, Fulham, both Manchester clubs and Chelsea in domestic cups and obviously
02:25 we all know the Champions League draw but they'll be hoping for an EZ Cup draw and then
02:29 who knows how far this group can go, no-one will want to play them at St James' Park that's
02:33 for sure, there'll be very few teams Newcastle won fans chances against, they'll have to
02:37 play better than this but, you know what, they're through with the next round, I think
02:40 that's it really, they're through with the next round, that's the main thing and they'll
02:44 go to Zilla with a bit of confidence and really their season starts probably after that game,
02:50 I mean you can't really write games off at this point in the season but certainly after
02:53 that game the season starts but it's a good win, it was another, you know, just their
02:56 fourth on the road all season which is, it's just good, you know, they need to start picking
03:00 up wins away and hopefully they can take confidence from that with a couple of home games and
03:05 relatively easier games to come in the Premier League in February so, you know, as I said,
03:09 good afternoon, solid day's work for any house side, into an exit on the FA Cup and who knows
03:14 how far they can get.
