Jedd Fisch discusses the UW quarterback situation.

00:00 >> Is it daunting that there's only one scholarship quarterback on the roster,
00:04 five have disengaged in the last seven days,
00:07 either by graduation or fortel or decommitment?
00:11 >> Yeah, there's guys that went in the portal at quarterback, but
00:16 we're still at the team meeting.
00:17 So I think sometimes a player goes into the portal
00:21 because of their opportunity to go speak to other teams.
00:26 That doesn't necessarily mean that they're not in this program,
00:30 in this unique set of circumstances.
00:33 So we have a lot of players that entered the portal prior to my arrival here,
00:38 in between probably that 48 hour span of when coach DeBoer went to Alabama,
00:43 that are now very interested in potentially returning.
00:46 And those are conversations we're gonna have and we've had our doors wide open and
00:50 invited them to both the little locker room reception we had when I first arrived
00:54 on Sunday evening, and also our team meetings.
00:57 >> On quarterback specifically, do you have a sense if Will Rogers and
01:01 Austin Mack in particular are open to returning to Washington or
01:05 staying at Washington and just more generally, what does a quarterback in your
01:10 offensive system need to be best at?
01:12 What are the traits that you prioritize when you're looking at that position?
01:15 >> Yeah, we're an NFL style, pro style passing offense, that's who we are.
01:22 Last year and the year before, we had tremendous success with Jaden Delora and
01:27 with Noah Fafida.
01:29 And both of those guys were phenomenal in our offense.
01:32 I think we were in the top eight in offense both years,
01:36 in passing offense, in top 20, in every category.
01:40 Both of them see the field extremely well, both of them are mobile,
01:43 both of them have the ability to make every throw.
01:47 Both of them had the chance to be able to play under center and from gun.
01:51 That's what our offense consists of.
01:53 The same thing you see Matthew Stafford do right now at the Rams and
01:57 the same thing that you saw Tua do at Miami and
02:00 the same thing that brought Purdy to San Francisco.
02:03 And what Gino is doing here is what our system is based upon.
02:06 It's that Shanahan McVay offense where you know how to play from under center and
02:13 gun and you know how to play action and you know how to complete the ball down
02:16 the field.
02:17 And our goal, we were the number one explosive offense in the country two years
02:20 ago, and our goal is to be able to get back to that here at Washington.
02:25 But we have big shoes to follow with what was done here offensively.
02:29 I think Coach DeBoer and I talked often about the two offenses last in 2022.
02:34 And in 2023, I think both of us were pretty concentrated on trying to play
02:39 each other in the Pac-12 championship.
02:42 So we didn't do a lot of talking this past year.
02:44 But certainly feel like the quarterback is gonna be what makes our program go.
02:49 and we're gonna do everything we can to get the best one.
