00:00 I couldn't help it, but the soul I got on my own, for you.
00:06 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most surprising, season-altering
00:12 television twists in history.
00:14 Watch out for a spoiler-heavy rollercoaster ahead!
00:18 We're the part that stayed.
00:21 We're the part that changed him.
00:24 Number 10.
00:25 The Bad Place, The Good Place
00:27 We loved The Good Place, and while the whole series was fantastic, the first season really
00:32 set the standard.
00:33 "There's been a big mistake.
00:37 I'm not supposed to be here."
00:38 "Wait, what?"
00:44 That's largely because the team cooked up one of the best end-of-season twists of all
00:49 time.
00:50 At first, Eleanor and company are trying to navigate the ins and outs of the so-called
00:54 Good Place following their deaths; though they're supposed to be in a utopia, things
00:58 seem to go wrong at every single turn.
01:01 Then, Eleanor finally figures out the gambit.
01:04 It turns out, the Good Place is actually the Bad Place.
01:07 Everything that's happened to our four main characters has been orchestrated to help them
01:11 hurt each other.
01:12 It turns everything completely on its head, and brilliantly so.
01:16 "Shall we?"
01:17 "You know what, bro?
01:18 Do your worst.
01:19 We figured it out once, we can do it again.
01:22 Because you know what, Michael?
01:25 You're basic."
01:30 Number 9.
01:32 Long Live David Clark - Revenge When the central story of your television
01:36 show revolves around one character being dead, it can be pretty shocking to learn that said
01:41 character is actually alive and well.
01:43 "You know how much I love you, Amanda?"
01:48 "Infinity?"
01:49 "Times infinity."
01:57 Revenge follows a young woman, Amanda Clark, who moves to the Hamptons under a false name,
02:02 Emily.
02:03 She wants to get revenge on the Grayson family, who were seemingly responsible for the death
02:07 of her father, David, years before.
02:09 "My father's chance to bring justice to the truly guilty was stolen from him.
02:15 His only option was to forgive.
02:19 I have others."
02:20 But at the end of season 3, the patriarch Conrad Grayson has just fled prison and is
02:26 joined by a mysterious driver.
02:28 Except that driver is none other than David Clark himself.
02:31 "No, it can't be.
02:35 David."
02:36 Yep, Amanda's father has been alive the whole time, reframing everything that happened that
02:44 season and the ones before.
02:46 Number 8.
02:47 Il-Nam is behind it all.
02:50 Squid Game.
02:51 There's arguably nothing more unassuming than an elderly man on TV.
02:55 Especially an elderly man with a tumor forced to play a bunch of deadly childhood games.
03:11 In Squid Game, we're introduced to Il-Nam as one of the players.
03:15 After he loses a game to our main character Gi-Hun, we're led to believe that he's
03:19 killed.
03:20 "I remembered my name.
03:23 My name is Il-Nam.
03:26 Oh, Il-Nam."
03:30 But in the season finale, a year after the main events of the series, Gi-Hun is taken
03:35 to see a very much alive Il-Nam on his deathbed.
03:39 We learn that Il-Nam was the orchestrator of the games.
03:42 He created them so the wealthy could be entertained by the plight of the poor and participated
03:47 just for fun.
03:48 It makes us look back on every moment with new eyes.
04:03 Number 7.
04:04 Agatha All Along.
04:06 WandaVision.
04:07 Sometimes a character is introduced and you just know something is up.
04:11 And when you cast Catherine Han, we have to assume she's going to have a pretty important
04:16 role.
04:17 "Well, it feels like we've always been together."
04:19 "Lucky gal.
04:21 The only way Ralph would remember our anniversary is if there was a beer named June 2nd."
04:26 But we could have never guessed the extent of Agatha's involvement in Wanda's manipulated
04:31 WandaVision life.
04:32 Han first appears as Wanda's wacky neighbor Agnes.
04:35 "That you should stumble when you walk into a room so he can catch you.
04:39 It's romantic."
04:40 "Any other tricks?"
04:42 "You could point out that the death rate of single men is twice that of married men."
04:46 But in the seventh episode, she's revealed to be the witch Agatha Harkness.
04:51 And we learn she's been responsible for the major disruptions to Wanda's life.
04:55 With a fantastic musical sequence, the show even takes us back through major moments and
05:00 demonstrates just how much of an impact Agatha had.
05:05 "Now that everything has gone wrong, it's been Agatha, naughty Agatha.
05:13 It's been Agatha all along."
05:14 Number 6.
05:15 Thaisa Sleepwalks - Yellowjackets
05:17 Throughout the first season of Yellowjackets, we're led to believe that something is definitely
05:22 up with Thaisa.
05:23 We eventually learn that she deals with sleepwalking.
05:26 But it's not your run-of-the-mill stuff, which is revealed in the most shockingly twisty
05:31 of ways.
05:32 "If we're stuck out here long enough, I have a feeling it'll come out one way or
05:39 another."
05:40 In the 2021 timeline, Thaisa's son complains about a woman in a tree outside of their house.
05:45 Though she initially thinks he's imagining things, it ultimately becomes clear that there
05:50 is indeed a lady.
05:52 It's her.
05:53 "Oh, my God.
05:54 Oh, my God.
05:57 Oh, my God."
06:01 When she's asleep at night, her alter ego takes over and does horrifying things.
06:06 It's a wonderful setup for what's to come as the story progresses and shines new light
06:11 on both timelines.
06:12 "No, it's time."
06:13 "He's seen me do it, Shawna.
06:15 He's seen me do it.
06:17 He thinks there's some other version of me.
06:20 He calls it the bad one."
06:22 Number 5.
06:23 Spike Gets a Soul - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
06:26 Throughout the later seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we're not quite sure what
06:30 to think about Spike.
06:31 "You got any more Rudy Testamere, you ponce?
06:35 I'll take anything you can throw at me if it'll get me what I need to take care of
06:40 the Slayer."
06:41 We know he has feelings for Buffy, yet it also seems like he might be trying to defeat
06:46 her.
06:47 Hey, he did start out as a full-blown villain after all.
06:50 But then we learn that's not the case.
06:52 It's quite the opposite, in fact.
06:54 Spike fought for the opportunity to regain his soul, and succeeded in doing so so he
06:59 could be good enough for Buffy.
07:01 "Why would you do that?"
07:02 "I'm not ashamed of you.
07:03 What does a man do that he mustn't for her to be hers?"
07:10 It's surprising in the moment, but looking back on it, everything about Spike's decision
07:15 makes sense.
07:16 It's the rare season-defining twist that's imbued with sweetness rather than shock value.
07:21 "So yeah, I go and pass the time.
07:25 With someone.
07:26 But that's all it is, is time.
07:28 God help me, Buffy, it's still all about you."
07:32 Number 4.
07:33 Not the Elliot we thought.
07:34 Mr. Robot
07:36 You know those plot twists that come in at the end of a show's run and find a way to
07:39 make you question everything you've watched up until that point?
07:42 Well, this is one of those.
07:44 "I know you're afraid.
07:47 But the fear you have is a right one.
07:51 Means you'll be forever vigilant."
07:54 Throughout Mr. Robot, we get to know Elliot, a hacker with dissociative identity disorder.
08:00 Twists and turns abound as we learn the title character is Elliot's creation, and we understand
08:05 we can't always trust the protagonist to be a reliable narrator.
08:08 "Why would I trust any of you?
08:10 You've been trying to kill me."
08:11 "We've been trying to show you the truth, and you've been resisting."
08:16 "Not this again."
08:19 Still, we believe our main window into the story is really him, not one identity that's
08:25 taken over his body.
08:26 And yet, the series finale reveals that this is exactly what was going on, with the mastermind
08:32 having been in charge.
08:33 "Even though we'll be gone, it's like Mr. Robot said, we'll always be a part of Elliot
08:40 and the others."
08:41 Number 3.
08:42 It's in the Past - Battlestar Galactica
08:45 Battlestar Galactica is one of the best science fiction shows in recent memory.
08:50 But it has one thing going for it that many others don't.
08:54 It doesn't actually take place in the future.
08:56 "There are certain things that we've all done.
09:01 Certain things that people would be shocked to learn about."
09:05 That's right!
09:07 After a miniseries and four seasons, the beloved show ended by revealing that Battlestar Galactica
09:12 takes place in the past.
09:14 When our beloved battleship finally lands on Earth, it's during prehistoric times.
09:19 "Human beings naturally evolved on a planet one million light years away.
09:25 The odds against that are astronomical."
09:27 Though the characters vowed to eschew their technology, the epilogue tells us that 150,000
09:34 years later, things evolved much like they did in the real world.
09:38 After all, this has happened before.
09:40 And it can happen again.
09:42 "Technology, Renamuk?
09:44 Remind you of anything?"
09:45 "Take your pick.
09:47 Kobol.
09:48 Earth.
09:49 The real Earth, before this one."
09:52 Number 2.
09:53 George is John Doe - Grey's Anatomy
09:55 "I joined the army to be a trauma surgeon.
09:57 I report for duty tomorrow."
09:58 "You did what?"
09:59 "I'm not going to do this."
10:00 "You're not going to do this?"
10:01 "I'm not going to do this."

10:20 "You're not going to do this?"
10:21 "You're not going to do this?"
10:22 "You're not going to do this?"
10:24 "Dragged by a bus, he's clamped down so he couldn't innovate."
10:26 "Didn't they stop when they hit him?"
10:27 "The bus driver didn't know he was there until he got halfway down the block."
10:30 His face has been wrecked and he's unrecognizable, but he keeps trying to write something for
10:35 Meredith.
10:36 When she finally figures out what it is, she starts freaking out.
10:39 The John Doe is tracing 007, George O'Malley's hospital nickname.
10:44 "It's George!
10:45 It's George!
10:46 It's George!
10:48 John Doe is George!"
10:51 George is the man who was hit by the bus, and his subsequent passing marks a turning
10:55 point for the show.
10:57 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
11:01 Big dies, and just like that, and just like that, Carrie's whole world changes.
11:07 "John!
11:08 Oh God!
11:09 Oh God, John!
11:10 Oh, John, please!"
11:15 Double agent, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
11:18 Ward showed his true Hydra colors.
11:21 "The Sicilian backup team, a no-show of course.
11:24 So I dropped into the skylight, used up my whole mag, and hit the final guy in the chest
11:29 with a flare gun.
11:30 Boy, you should have seen the look on that guy's face."
11:35 The Bent Neck Lady, The Haunting of Hill House.
11:39 Nell's haunting fate is revealed.
11:40 "It's time to wake up, sweetheart."
11:43 Violet is a ghost, American Horror Story.
11:47 She wasn't saved after all.
11:48 "I never wanted you to see this.
11:50 I'm so sorry, Violet."
11:53 Bernard is a robot, Westworld.
11:56 Nothing could have prepared us for the reveal that he's a host.
11:58 "I was a father.
12:00 My poor boy."
12:01 "That's enough, Bernard.
12:06 You must get yourself worked up."

12:28 Flash-Forwards, Lost.
12:30 Lost is one of the quintessential mystery box shows.
12:33 As such, twists and turns define its legacy, like when we learn that Ethan isn't on the
12:38 plane's manifest in the first season.
12:40 "One of them isn't in the manifest.
12:43 He wasn't on the plane."
12:45 "Hello there."
12:48 But the biggest plot twist of all, and maybe one of the most effective ever, came in the
12:53 two-part season three finale.
12:56 Flashbacks became a central part of Lost episodes, and for most of this one, we think that's
13:01 what we're watching as Jack struggles.
13:02 "There was no funeral, sir.
13:04 Only a viewing.
13:06 Nobody showed up."
13:07 "Nobody?

13:13 My deepest condolences."
13:14 Then, eventually, he meets up with none other than Kate.
13:18 As he tells her that they need to return to the island, we realize that we're watching
13:22 a flash-forward, not a flashback.
