00:00 "You're not going to believe who Gossip Girl is."
00:02 "Wait, Gossip Girl is real?"
00:05 Welcome to Nier's Mojo, and today we're looking at controversial and ill-conceived
00:11 plot twists on live-action TV.
00:14 So, no animated series missteps included.
00:18 And there may be spoilers.
00:19 "Choose anyone."
00:20 "I choose you."
00:21 "You cannot."
00:22 "Yes I can.
00:25 I'm king."
00:26 Number 10, Clark Kills Bellamy, The 100.
00:31 For many fans of this series, the worst thing they could imagine was for friends and on-again,
00:37 off-again supercouple Clark Griffin and Bellamy Blake to break up for good.
00:42 "Now there's something I thought I'd never see."
00:44 They had no idea how dark things would get.
00:48 In the post-apocalyptic show's seventh and final season, Bellamy falls prey to the disciples,
00:54 a deadly doomsday cult.
00:57 Clark is put in the gut-wrenching position of killing her friend.
01:01 "This isn't about Cadigan.
01:03 It's bigger than any of us."
01:05 "Don't make me do this."
01:10 Shocking can be good, but this felt downright nonsensical and unfair.
01:16 It was an emotional blow that fans weren't prepared for, and even left several longtime
01:22 watchers wondering why they'd invested in the story for all those years.
01:27 "This is the only way.
01:30 I'm sorry.
01:31 We need to keep this safe for the ship."
01:37 "Me too."
01:38 Number 9, Glenn is Alive.
01:39 Oh wait, The Walking Dead.
01:42 "It's my plan.
01:43 It's on me."
01:44 "You have a wife, Glenn."
01:45 "That's why I'm doing this."
01:48 Viewers were shocked when fan-favorite Glenn seemingly fell into a horde of zombies with
01:54 no hope of escape.
01:56 Readers of the comics on which the AMC series is based were just as shocked.
02:01 Glenn does die in the comics, but not this way.
02:05 Actor Steven Yeun's name was removed from the opening credits for the next four episodes.
02:10 Then the character made his triumphant return, explaining his narrow escape from death.
02:16 "Out the back, down the alley.
02:19 Taking the road, we need visibility."
02:20 "Why?"
02:21 "Because half the herd broke off, and they're headed towards home."
02:27 However, his resurrection wasn't well-received.
02:31 Even those who loved Glenn felt cheated and manipulated by the lame way it was all handled.
02:37 But it turns out his run was short-lived.
02:40 The next season began with the antagonist Negan bludgeoning Glenn to death in a scene
02:45 that was much closer to the source material.
02:49 "I need you to know me."
02:52 8.
02:53 The Plane Crash - Grey's Anatomy
02:56 Season 8 ended with a crash, a boom, and a bang.
03:00 When several regular characters end up in a plane crash in the woods, they must fight
03:05 to survive against all odds.
03:07 "Where's Derek and Lexi?"
03:09 "I don't know, I lost a shoe."
03:13 "What happened?"
03:14 "The plane crashed, that's what happened.
03:16 We were in a plane, and it crashed."
03:19 Severe injuries and post-traumatic stress take hold.
03:22 Watching Meredith Grey lose both her sister Lexi and Lexi's boyfriend, the lovable heartthrob
03:28 Mark Sloan, was shocking and devastating.
03:31 "And we are gonna die out here too.
03:34 We are gonna die out here."
03:35 "Keep it together, keep it together."
03:36 "No, you keep it together."
03:37 "I'm trying."
03:38 "I don't care.
03:39 Keep it together anyway."
03:40 However, once the dust cleared in Season 9, it seemed for many fans that the show had
03:45 suffered losses it couldn't recover from.
03:48 A major relationship was now gone, and for many, it was a turning point that signaled
03:54 several departures and a drop in quality for the show.
03:58 "Captain!"
03:59 "This is a place where horrible things happen.
04:02 You were right to go.
04:05 You're probably escaping disaster."
04:08 Number 7.
04:09 Bobby Ewing's death.
04:11 Dallas.
04:12 Where his brother J.R. was known for his double-dealing and backstabbing, Patrick Duffy's Bobby Ewing
04:18 was the warm heart at the center of the series.
04:21 "If you'll have me, I wanna marry you."
04:26 So when he was run down and killed by the jealous and obsessed Katherine Wentworth,
04:32 it was a tremendous blow to the series.
04:34 If the audience felt betrayed then, they felt totally duped when Bobby showed up in
04:40 his ex-wife's shower at the end of the next season.
04:44 Apparently, all 31 episodes taking place between Bobby's death and his resurrection were
04:51 just a fever dream.
04:53 "You look like you just saw a ghost."
04:54 "The minute I thought I did."
04:58 "What are you talking about?"
05:01 Even fans who were happy to see him back couldn't quite stomach the idea that they had just
05:07 watched several weeks of storylines that didn't matter.
05:10 "I was so afraid.
05:13 Oh, I love you so much."
05:17 "It's over.
05:18 None of that happened."
05:21 Number 6.
05:22 Logan's death.
05:23 Veronica Mars.
05:26 Fans were understandably shattered when this cult mystery series was cancelled after its
05:32 third season.
05:33 "Seems it never rains in Southern California."
05:41 Given the title character is a private investigator, there's a lot of death going on around her
05:46 pretty much all the time.
05:48 But few thought the series would kill her most reliable love interest, Logan Eccles.
05:54 "Is this where we kiss?"
05:56 "I'm a civil servant.
05:58 It's your call."
05:59 "Who's the golfer?"
06:00 "I'm nothing if not traditional."
06:02 When the show came back for its belated fourth season in 2019, Veronica and Logan's wedded
06:08 bliss was unexpectedly short-lived when he became the victim of a serial bomber.
06:15 It was seen as a betrayal of epic, series-ruining proportions.
06:19 "Because you want children who will inherit our qualities?
06:27 I want to marry Veronica because she's the toughest human being I've ever met."
06:30 Number 5.
06:31 Luke's secret daughter.
06:33 Gilmore Girls.
06:35 Spunky Lorelei Gilmore and honorary diner owner Luke Daines spent five whole seasons
06:41 denying the achingly obvious chemistry between them.
06:45 "What are you doing?"
06:47 "Will you just stand still?"
06:49 "I'm not doing anything."
06:51 When they finally did get their act together and start dating in season 6, in came nerdy
06:57 preteen April Nadine to ruin their lives.
07:01 And also ours.
07:02 April was doomed from the start.
07:05 Luke's idiotic decision to not tell Lorelei about her was bad enough, but it just seemed
07:11 like a soap opera development created to lengthen their will-they-or-won't-they relationship.
07:16 "I'm your father."
07:17 "Yes."
07:18 "I didn't know about you."
07:20 "I know."
07:21 "If I did, I would have, uh…
07:24 Yeah, it's me."
07:26 "Hi."
07:27 Once we got a taste of them moving forward, the last thing we wanted was another obstacle.
07:33 Even if April had been sunshine and rainbows, it was always going to be hard for fans to
07:39 accept her.
07:40 "I met you briefly.
07:42 You were filling salt and pepper shakers."
07:43 "I remember you were dressed in all black and you had really blue eyes.
07:46 Not quite as blue today, but I think that's just the light thing."
07:48 "These irises are all natural, baby."
07:50 Number 4.
07:51 The Conners win the lottery.
07:53 And all of season 9.
07:54 Roseanne.
07:55 "I can't believe it!
07:56 The lottery!
07:57 The lottery!
07:58 The Illinois State Lottery!
07:59 It's the biggest one in the history of Illinois!
08:00 It's 108 million dollars!"
08:06 A great sitcom about regular people with everyday worries ended on a sour note.
08:12 At the beginning of its ninth and original final season, the blue-collar Conner family
08:17 became multi-million dollar lottery winners.
08:21 This kicked off a series of weird, inconsistent, and wildly dumb scenarios that betrayed everything
08:28 the family had represented.
08:30 Disorientated fans didn't know what to make of their sudden, shark-jumping displays of
08:35 wealth.
08:36 "We're going to be part of the whole hoity-toity hoopty-doo."
08:39 "Well, remember what I told you when we started going out?
08:44 Stick with me, kid.
08:45 I'll have you farting through silk."
08:46 Things weren't made much better, either, by the twist in its original series finale.
08:52 Roseanne Conner reveals the ninth season was a fantasy she cooked up for her first novel.
08:59 The bombshell revelation that her loving husband Dan was dead was the final straw.
09:05 "I lost Dan last year when he had his heart attack.
09:11 He's still the first thing I think about when I wake up."
09:17 Number 3.
09:18 Bran Stark Becomes King - Game of Thrones
09:22 Though rushed, Daenerys Targaryen's turn to the dark side at least made narrative sense.
09:28 "What about everyone else?
09:31 All the other people, they think they know what's good."
09:36 "They don't get to choose."
09:40 However, even the most forgiving fans couldn't help but scratch their heads during the Game
09:45 of Thrones finale.
09:47 After all the pain and bloodshed, Tyrion Lannister stood up and said that Bran Stark had the
09:54 best story in the kingdom, and therefore should be King of Westeros, and everyone agreed.
09:59 The rest of us just went, "Huh?"
10:01 "All hail Bran the Broken.
10:05 First of his name.
10:06 King of the Andals and the First Men.
10:09 Lord of the Six Kingdoms."
10:11 Of course Bran went through it just like everyone else, but he didn't even have the best story
10:17 in the room.
10:18 There was a lot to be said for his qualities as a future king, but given what everyone
10:23 had gone through, it seemed like a weak and tidy end for such an epic story.
10:29 "I'm sorry I wasn't there when you needed me."
10:34 "You were exactly where you were supposed to be."
10:37 Number 2.
10:38 Aunt Robin, How I Met Your Mother.
10:40 "The point of the story is that you totally, totally, totally have the hearts for Aunt
10:44 Robin."
10:45 That's right, you listen to Ted tell the story of how he met his kid's mother, only
10:50 to find out in the series finale that she was almost inconsequential.
10:56 The kids point out the obvious fact that in telling how he met their mother, he revealed
11:01 that he really is in love with Robin and should act on that feeling.
11:05 "Dad, we love Aunt Robin."
11:07 "Whenever she comes over for dinner, you guys are so obvious."
11:10 "Come on, Dad.
11:11 Mom's been gone for six years now.
11:15 It's time."
11:16 Although many fans were understandably annoyed, some thought it was a fitting end to a show
11:21 that was constantly telling us how life is a story with a lot of unplanned twists.
11:27 But still, the way Ted's kids are constantly annoyed with him telling stories about their
11:33 mother kinda sounds mean in retrospect after you find out that she's been dead the whole
11:39 time.

12:01 Number 1 - Dan is Gossip Girl
12:04 Gossip Girl.
12:16 After six seasons of making a bunch of rich teens' lives a living hell, it was revealed
12:22 in the series finale that the Gossip Girl blog was the brainchild of brooding and sensitive
12:28 Dan Humphrey.
12:30 Never mind the fact that there were several times Dan was seen reading the blog alone,
12:35 reacting with confusion or outrage that's rendered completely illogical if he wrote
12:40 it.
12:50 The blog exposed several secrets that humiliated people close to him in ways that go beyond
12:57 throwing them off the scent.
12:59 It's a legitimate show-breaking plot twist that makes re-watches almost impossible to
13:06 invest in.
13:17 Which plot twist made you rage-quit your favourite show?
