00:00 "I've always known. I chose this."
00:06 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks
00:11 for movie plot points that were supposed to blow our minds,
00:14 but instead left everyone in the theater collectively saying,
00:18 "Called it."
00:19 We'd say spoilers, but we all predicted these twists anyway.
00:22 "Now, shall we begin?"
00:27 10. Dissociative Identity Disorder
00:31 Secret Window
00:32 In this adaptation of Stephen King's novella, Johnny Depp plays Mort,
00:37 an author with a serious case of writer's block.
00:40 In addition to going through a messy divorce,
00:42 he's being hounded by the murderous John Shooter,
00:45 who accuses him of plagiarism.
00:47 "Nice try, Mr. Shooter, but I beat you by two years."
00:50 It doesn't take long for the audience to notice that Mort
00:53 is the only character that's been portrayed by John Shooter.
00:56 He's also the only character that Shooter directly interacts with on screen,
01:01 leading us to deduce that the mysterious stranger
01:03 is a figment of his imagination.
01:05 "What? No!"
01:06 "Kind of an amazing coincidence, don't you think?"
01:10 The dissociative identity disorder twist was seemingly a trend in the early 2000s,
01:15 as Hide and Seek, starring Robert De Niro, pulled the same stunt barely a year later.
01:20 We'd say,
01:21 "You stole my story."
01:22 But even though the secret window did it, the idea wasn't very fresh.
01:26 Number 9.
01:28 Scrappy Behind the Mask - Scooby-Doo
01:31 Going into this live-action Scooby movie,
01:34 we can't say we expected Scrappy-Doo to be the criminal mastermind.
01:38 The second he popped up in a flashback though,
01:41 even younger viewers thought,
01:43 "Oh, so they're really going to make him the bad guy, huh?"
01:45 "Scrappy Deppy-Doo!"
01:47 "Ghosts don't stand a chance with me!
01:50 Let me at 'em!
01:51 I'll suck 'em!"
01:52 The flashback doesn't serve a purpose other than introducing Scrappy and giving him a motive.
01:57 It doesn't take a seasoned sleuth to sniff out where this mystery is going.
02:02 "I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling bitch and your dumb dog!
02:07 I'll get you for this!"
02:10 Sure, Sugar Ray and Pamela Anderson made pointless cameos,
02:13 but the filmmakers weren't going to bother animating Scrappy for one scene
02:17 and not have him be the villain.
02:19 Honestly, it would have been funnier if they cut the flashback,
02:23 and Scrappy just suddenly appeared in the climax.
02:26 "Scrappy-Doo."
02:27 "Correction! The new improved Scrappy!"
02:30 At least we wouldn't have seen that coming.
02:33 Number 8.
02:34 A Very Sixth Sense Christmas
02:37 Last Christmas.
02:38 The Sixth Sense was far from the first movie to employ a twist ending,
02:43 but it definitely kicked off a modern trend.
02:45 Many subsequent films tried replicating the same shock factor.
02:49 "Would you like to repeat the experience?"
02:53 "Would you like to give me your number?"
02:54 "I don't have a phone."
02:55 "Oh my god, I was just beginning to think you're not as weird as you look."
03:01 Even 20 years later, Last Christmas attempted to be the sixth sense of holiday rom-coms.
03:07 The genre might have been different, but the twist is virtually the same,
03:11 with Emilia Clarke's Kate realizing that Henry Golding's Tom is a ghost.
03:16 "Where can I feel you?"
03:17 "Because I'm a part of you."
03:22 Not just any ghost, but the ghost of the organ donor who gave her his heart.
03:28 They really took the Wham song literally.
03:30 This twist might have worked in a half-hour Christmas special,
03:34 but as a feature, the audience quickly realizes that Tom wears the same outfit
03:38 and doesn't interact with anyone else for a reason.
03:42 "Now I've gotta go to what?"
03:46 "Um..."
03:47 "He knew. I work nights."
03:50 Number 7.
03:51 Mutt is Indy's son, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
03:56 When Shia LaBeouf was cast in this sequel,
03:59 everyone jumped to the conclusion that he'd be playing Indiana Jones' son.
04:03 They even called this out in LaBeouf's SNL monologue leading up to the film's release.
04:08 "Okay, okay, all right. What if I guessed the ending? Would you tell me if I'm right?"
04:11 "Yeah, sure. I mean, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have been working on
04:15 this ending for 15 years, but go ahead, guess away."
04:18 Being so predictable, the story would have worked much better if they got this plot point
04:23 out of the way up front. Instead, they drag it out for almost half the movie.
04:28 "What's your mom's name again?"
04:29 "Mary. Mary Williams. You remember her?"
04:31 "We're a lot of Marys, kid."
04:34 "Shut up! That's my mother you're talking about."
04:36 Even when Mutt mentions that his mother is named Mary,
04:39 it doesn't dawn on Indy that this could be Marion,
04:42 who he left at the altar about 20 years earlier.
04:45 The world's greatest archaeologist. When Marion finally lets the snake out of the bag,
04:50 it feels less like a twist and more like a bad punchline that we all foresaw.
04:54 "Mom?"
04:55 "Man, I specifically told you not to cover your son."
04:59 "You never wrote that. You never said that in any phone calls."
05:01 "Marion Ravenwood is your mother."
05:03 "Oh, for God's sake, Indy, it's not that hard."
05:06 Number six, the Jigsaw copycat's identity, Spiral.
05:10 Saw movie endings are hit and miss. People still talk about the first film's
05:15 jaw-dropper. The same can't be said about Spiral, which was supposed to breathe new life
05:20 into the franchise.
05:21 "From now on, you're gonna learn to be a team player. You're getting a partner."
05:25 While the film has its moments, the big twist couldn't stick the landing.
05:29 It's obviously not a coincidence that William Shank joins the police department
05:34 around the same time that a mysterious killer starts replicating Jigsaw's crimes.
05:40 "Hello, Detective Banks. I'm here to help reform the Metro Police,
05:44 to remind them of their oath to the people of this city."
05:48 Even when Shank seemingly dies, it doesn't throw us off his scent. In hindsight,
05:53 you'd think Zeke would have reached out to Shank's next of kin,
05:56 realizing he fabricated his family. Maybe this twist could have been salvaged if Shank was
06:02 related to John Kramer, but the reveal that he was the son of a murdered witness is pretty
06:07 underwhelming.
06:08 "So, Charlie, you saw this cop throw the victim off a rooftop, and you can positively ID this cop."
06:15 "I'll testify on a stunt, Navy. I'll do it."
06:18 Number 5. Affleck is alive. Pearl Harbor.
06:22 Ben Affleck got top billing in Pearl Harbor and was prominently featured in the trailers.
06:27 "Ma'am, I'm never gonna be an English teacher, but I know why I'm here. To be a pilot."
06:34 Even if you went into this wartime romance without seeing any advertising,
06:38 we doubt anyone would have believed that the filmmakers would pull a Marion Crane.
06:43 When Affleck's Rafe is presumed killed in action, his best friend Danny and best girl
06:48 Evelyn turn to each other for comfort. Yeah, you all see where this is going. Yet, it's still
06:53 treated like a drama bomb when Rafe resurfaces, revealing that he survived the plane crash.
06:59 Well, at least things can't get any more aqua-
07:02 "Rafe, I'm pregnant."
07:03 Yeah, we saw that coming too. Don't worry, this movie will check off all the cliched
07:08 soap opera twists, including Danny dying upon learning of his fatherhood.
07:12 "Hey, Rafe, can you do me a favor?"
07:17 "What?"
07:17 "Can you help someone else write my name on the tombstone?"
07:21 Number 4. Danny is humanity's savior. Terminator Dark Fate.
07:26 To this movie's credit, we didn't anticipate it opening with John Connor's death.
07:31 It was controversial, but perhaps this could take the franchise in a new direction.
07:35 "Hey, you come with me or you're dead in the next 30 seconds."
07:39 The minute we meet Dani Ramos, though, it's clear that she's going to be the next John.
07:44 Clear to everybody except Dani and Sarah Connor.
07:47 "So you're here to protect her. What are you?"
07:52 Sarah assumes that Danny will give birth to humanity's savior.
07:55 Granted, Danny has no combat training, but neither did Sarah when she first clashed with
07:59 the Terminator. Wouldn't the idea that Danny might be the future resistance leader cross
08:04 Sarah's mind? By the time Sarah puts two and two together, she's late to the party.
08:09 The film acts like this reveal is revolutionary, when in reality, it's just recycling the same story.
08:15 "Then you need to be ready."
08:19 Number 3. Alice's simulated wonderland. Don't worry, darling.
08:24 The behind-the-scenes drama surrounding this psychological thriller was more
08:28 fascinating than the movie itself.
08:30 "Is that why you went out there? To headquarters?"
08:35 That's not to say we didn't get some top-notch production values and performances,
08:40 but tell us if this sounds familiar. Our heroine lives in a nostalgic community where the women
08:44 are told not to venture beyond certain borders. From the moment you hear this setup, you know
08:50 that the film is actually going to be set in modern times, especially if you've seen The Village.
08:55 Making Alice's world a simulation doesn't add much to the equation.
08:59 "Whose world is it? Alice! Whose world is it? Alice! Alice! Go! Go, Alice! Go! No, no, no!"
09:10 Maybe it would have been interesting to see what happens to Alice after she escapes,
09:14 but the film just kind of ends there. At the very least, you could have left us on this line.
09:20 "Damn, the whole thing was just a virtual reality experience."
09:24 Number 2. Miranda Tate is Talia al Ghul - The Dark Knight Rises
09:30 Surprise villains are among the most frustrating modern movie trends,
09:34 especially when everybody figures it out from the cast list alone.
09:38 "It's about feeding the ego of whichever society hag laid this on."
09:43 "Actually, this is my party, Mr. Wayne."
09:47 For the final entry in Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy,
09:50 it was announced that Marion Cotillard would star as Miranda Tate,
09:54 a character who's never appeared in the comics. Fans immediately concluded that
09:58 Miranda was an alias for Talia al Ghul. Cotillard insisted that she wasn't playing Talia,
10:04 and that Miranda was a good guy, but she didn't fool anybody. Well, she did fool Batman,
10:10 who doesn't realize Miranda's true identity until she stabs him in the back.
10:14 "But my father could not accept pain. He saw only a monster."
10:19 The world's greatest detective. The only real surprise here is that young
10:23 Talia is played by Joey King of the Kissing Booth trilogy.
10:27 "In the fire of 12 million souls, you failed."

10:46 #1. My name is… uh-huh, we know, Con. Star Trek Into Darkness
10:54 Being the second entry in the rebooted Star Trek series,
10:57 introducing Con as the villain was the next logical step.
11:00 "A remnant of a time long past.
11:02 Genetically engineered to be superior so as to lead others to peace in a world at war."
11:09 When Benedict Cumberbatch joined the cast, we all knew who he'd be playing.
11:14 But Into Darkness learned nothing from Dark Knight Rises a year earlier.
11:18 The filmmakers, marketing team, and actors did everything in their power to cover up the fact
11:24 that Cumberbatch was Con. "A smoke screen to conceal my true identity.
11:28 My name is Con." This was like trying to hide an elephant in a one-room apartment, however.
11:39 If anything, their efforts to keep this twist under wraps only seemed to draw more attention
11:44 to John Harrison inevitably being Con. Reflecting on the sequel, J.J. Abrams acknowledged a few
11:50 things that he might have done differently, including trying to conceal Con's role in the film.
11:56 "But I was discovered. I had no choice but to escape alone."
12:02 Which plot twists did you see coming from a mile away? Let us know in the comments,
12:08 but we guess leave a spoiler alert?
