00:00 Hello, I'm Sam Morton and here's your daily Sussex News Bulletin on Friday January 5th.
00:04 People have been asked to support Sussex Post Offices amid boycott threats. The National
00:10 Federation of Subpostmasters is urging people to continue to support local post offices in Sussex
00:16 after a social media backlash to the ITV drama Mr Bates vs the Post Office.
00:21 Several people have vowed to boycott post offices over the four-part series depicting the Horizon
00:27 Scandal which is the biggest miscarriage of justice ever seen in the United Kingdom,
00:31 a spokesperson for the Federation said. More than 700 postmasters across the UK were wrongly accused
00:37 of theft, fraud and false accounting with some convicted and imprisoned. Whilst the general
00:42 public have been outraged by what happened to the victims, the outpouring of negative feeling
00:46 towards Post Office Limited for their role in the scandal across social media may be detrimental to
00:51 postmasters' livelihoods by association. Meanwhile, a councillor has been found guilty of
00:57 stealing a child's pushchair in West Sussex. Aided District Councillor Paul Mansfield of Avonclose
01:02 and Sompton appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on Wednesday January 3rd to face a charge
01:07 of theft. The Conservative councillor who also sits on the Sussex Police and Crime Panel was
01:12 accused of stealing a joey stroller at Itch and the Sailing Club in Chichester on August 28th,
01:17 2022. Finally, additional flood warnings and alerts have been put in place across Sussex amid
01:23 heavy rainfall in the UK. As many as 284 flood warnings have been issued by the UK Government's
01:29 Environment Agency including more than 10 in Sussex. This means that flooding is expected.
01:34 Flood alerts meaning flooding is possible has been issued for 312 UK rivers including 14 Sussex
01:41 hotspots. Road closures are still in place following heavy rainfall this week. To see
