00:00 2024 is set to be a landmark year. From dozens of elections across the world to expected
00:08 milestones from global temperatures, space exploration and artificial intelligence. From
00:14 the 2024 Olympic Games set to happen in Paris from July 26th to August 11th. And for the
00:21 city of Bristol, many big names visiting the newly reopened Bristol Beacon. But with an
00:26 extra day in this sleep year, what are locals looking forward to 2024?
00:32 Better bus service, that's the main thing. It's run down quite a bit in the last few
00:39 years. So getting places is not so easy, especially here. And if they keep closing banks and things,
00:47 you've got further to travel. That kind of thing, you know what I mean? Like I'm interested
00:53 in using more public transport.
00:56 Particularly, not particularly, because I don't like, I like setting realistic goals,
01:03 you know. So when you've got so much on something and at the end of the day, supposing it doesn't
01:08 come the way you anticipated, you know, then you start, you know, so that's the way I look
01:15 at it.
01:16 There are many events happening in 24 for locals to look forward to. From the reopening
01:21 of Wake the Tiger with their additional upstairs art installation, to the Harbour Festival
01:27 in July and the Bloom Fiesta in August. But what are locals most excited for in 2024?
01:35 Let's find out if the people of Bristol have any hopes or plans for themselves or the city
01:40 for 2024.
01:43 Do not have any, no. I do not have any. I probably have all the usual ones which are
01:48 soon forgotten, but nothing major.
01:51 It depends what they are. I mean, on particular subjects, but not generally about perhaps
01:57 fitness and diet and things like that. But yes.
02:03 I would love the public transport to be a bit more reliant because especially late at
02:07 night, I finish work quite late and there's quite a lot of times where it says a bus is
02:11 coming and it does not come. So yeah, it'd be great.
02:15 According to Timeout.com, from a survey of the top 15 places to visit in the UK in 2024,
02:23 Bristol has taken the top spot due to a combination of picture-perfect streets, a bustling nightlife
02:29 scene and the cultural offerings going from strength to strength.
02:33 The top mentioned 2024 reasons to visit the city include the continuing improvement in
02:39 public transport and a brand new festival showcasing BIPOC global ethnic majority artists
02:48 across theatre, dance, music, visual and digital arts.
02:56 All that is left to say is 2024 is set to be an exciting year for the city of Bristol
03:02 and beyond.
