Ladies In Charge - Ep 2 (Dangerous Prelude) (1986)
Ep 2: Dangerous Prelude. The Ladies Agency is approached by a woman to find a housekeeper for her brother, the crime novellist Edward Cane, and herself. However, they have strict stipulations about who they hire; she must be young, single and of a high moral character. Intrigued, they decide to send Vicky for the job. But while there she begins to feel unnerved about the whole place and it's guests - and in particular a mysterious trunk that's kept in the spare room upstairs...
Starring Julia Swift, Carol Royle and Julia Hills, with guest stars including David Rintoul, Suzanne Bertish, Michael Gough, Patrick Newell, Wendy Williams, Cynthia Grenville, Nigel Leach, Edward Clayton, Elspeth MacNaughton, Kate O'Connell and Phil Middlemiss (of Coronation Street fame) in his screen debut. This is from my own collection and has been rarely repeated since it's broadcast on May 13th 1986. This period series is part mystery/part drama, which can give it an uneven tone at times, but this particular episode certainly has a sinister vibe about it. And I quite like it's piano theme tune, which captures it's time and period beautifully.
