Transcript
00:00 The Philippine basketball community is still talking about the sudden death of PBA legend Abelino "Samboy" Lim at the age of 61 last Saturday.
00:09 His former coach in the Correo de San Juan de Letran Knights, Larry Albano, shared the legacy left by the former Tinagurian "The Skywalker".
00:19 Here is the story of Darryl Oclares.
00:22 After almost a decade of being hospitalized, last Saturday, Abelino "Samboy" Lim, one of the greatest Filipino basketball players of all time, passed away.
00:33 One of the last to be buried in the "The Skywalker" family is his former coach in the Correo de San Juan de Letran Knights, Larry Albano.
00:41 Albano became Lim's mentor in his playing in Letran in the 1980s, where they won the next three NCAA Senior Championships.
00:50 Aside from their Grand Slam, Lim also won the Most Valuable Player Award in 1984.
00:56 Despite the hardship that Letran went through in the rehearsal to win the three championships, Albano did not ask for any complaints from Lim.
01:05 At that time, he was one of the better players. I told him, "Boy, I'm sorry, let's talk about this."
01:11 "You know, will other players ask for you?"
01:15 When they played, they all, at that time, were giving their best. No one was being serious.
01:21 "Samboy, what can you do? You won't hear anything if you don't complain."
01:25 That's what they said, "Coachable and very humble."
01:28 Albano also looked back at the time when they beat Lim, along with some of his former teammates.
01:34 "It was fun because at first, when there was no reaction, when I was in the office, I would say, 'Coach Larry, how are you?'"
01:44 "I would say, 'You know, every player has their own strengths.'"
01:48 "So I was a bit jealous. That's the only thing I was jealous of, that his face had a reaction. It was fun."
01:54 After his in-earnment ceremony earlier, Lim was brought to the last stop at the Guardian of the Divine Red Columbarium in Quezon City.
02:01 Sochiti. Tare Lok Tares para sa Bayan.
