00:00 A local NGO plans to subsidize university students so they can travel home to vote in
00:05 January's national election.
00:07 "In all these routes, no matter which route you choose, no matter where you get up, the
00:14 lowest amount is 113."
00:18 Taiwan has no absentee voting, which means every voter has to go to where their household
00:22 is registered to cast their ballot.
00:25 Under the NGO's plan, students from 10 universities will be able to take train journeys on daily
00:29 designated routes for just 113 Taiwan dollars, or just over U.S. $3.50.
00:36 It also applies to ferries and flights to outlying islands.
00:40 The number 113 was chosen as the election takes place on January 13th.
00:45 The NGO has so far raised over $20,000, more than its original goal.
00:50 That will help some 800 students benefit from the scheme.
