00:00 How did you become a lone snapper?
00:01 >> I was too big to be a skill position and
00:07 I was too small to be a lineman.
00:10 So I started getting that little in between.
00:13 I've sort of found the niche, found a way to get on the field.
00:17 That was sort of how I approached it, but my dad,
00:20 he was a snapper in high school as well.
00:21 >> Okay. >> So there's a portion of that,
00:23 he sort of pointed me towards it.
00:25 Once we realized I wasn't really going one way or the other.
00:28 >> Was it, so you started doing it in high school, but
00:31 did you play offensive line in high school?
00:33 >> I played offensive line in high school.
00:34 I never started, I was a center.
00:36 >> Right.
00:38 >> But I did start snapping in seventh grade.
00:40 I didn't start really going to camps and
00:42 like truly learning form until about sophomore year of high school.
00:47 >> All right.
00:48 How would you describe the experience, like response this month after?
00:54 >> After all the transfer portal stuff and
00:56 everything that's been going on with opting out.
00:58 I think everyone's pretty much first in practice with the mindset that
01:02 everyone has an opportunity now.
01:04 We're gonna go and make the best out of this game.
01:06 And at the end of the day, we're trying to go and win the Orange Bowl.
01:08 >> Can you take us back before the season, your final season in Tallahassee,
01:14 you get elevated to scholarship.
01:16 What was that moment like?
01:18 >> Getting put on scholarship was awesome.
01:21 It really helped out on my end.
01:25 Just being able to get recognized for
01:27 the efforts I've been putting in over the years was great.
01:30 Overall, nothing really changed in terms of how I approached anything.
01:37 All that came out was just a little bit of recognition for
01:40 financial support.
01:41 So that's pretty much my approach on that.
01:44 >> How did that moment come together?
01:46 Was it a conversation with Coach Marvell?
01:48 >> It was sort of a conversation about just where I was at and
01:53 how it would help me out at the end of the day.
01:56 Never wanted to take advantage of anything more than what I should.
02:00 But at the end of the day, it was just a candid conversation.
02:04 And it worked out for the best.
02:06 >> I'm curious, like the special teams unit has been ranked really highly
02:12 all season, despite that.
02:13 Have you all noticed that?
02:14 That's kind of validating.
02:15 >> So that's something that JP has always mentioned.
02:18 By week, we sort of, I think it was the third weekend he started saying it.
02:23 We were top three at one point, and then it was top two.
02:26 And now we're best in conference.
02:29 And then I think we're within top five of the country right now, just overall.
02:35 But that was sort of a highlight and sort of a motivator.
02:38 It's like, we're already up there, stay up there, keep doing our job.
02:41 We're doing a really good job at this.
02:42 And if we just keep doing, keep pushing, keep working,
02:46 we're gonna be remembered for a long time.
02:50 >> Do you have aspirations to play in the NFL?
02:52 I mean, they're always looking for snappers.
02:53 >> I do have aspirations to play.
02:55 >> How does that go?
02:56 How does that go about?
02:57 Cuz you don't see a lot of long snappers, cuz you're drafted.
02:59 So how does that exactly, what's the next step?
03:02 >> A lot of the snappers that end up in the NFL are usually two,
03:05 three years removed from the programs that they worked in college.
03:10 They've already gone to the mini camps.
03:11 They've essentially just been on call.
03:13 And when it comes to snappers in the NFL, long shelf life, long shelf life.
03:19 Unless you get injured or start screwing up really badly, or
03:22 eventually just get too expensive, they rarely switch out.
03:26 If you see anyone get brought into a team, it's mainly to do preseason games to show
03:31 that they can do the job, and then they just go on that on-call list.
03:34 >> Okay.
03:35 >> But that's the majority of how it goes, from what I've witnessed and
03:39 what I've heard from my buddies who have gone to the next level.
03:43 But for my aspirations, I do wanna try, I wanna get my name out there.
03:47 >> Yeah, it does.
03:48 >> Eventually just either get on call or maybe I'll get lucky.
03:51 We're coming up on a time where it's very old snappers right now,
03:56 like ten plus years for a lot of teams.
03:59 So the chance of getting switched out is a greater possibility this year.
04:04 >> But you're gonna be in limbo, clearly, as all long snappers are.
04:08 So what will you do in the, what's your career,
04:10 what is your plan after the Orange Bowl?
04:12 >> So outside of football, I'm looking into making sure I have a job lined up.
04:18 Right now, I'm hoping that I can land a couple interviews,
04:24 full-time positions, that way I can work out and use my undergrad finance,
04:30 my master's entrepreneurship, and come this spring, my MBA.
04:33 >> Okay, yeah.
04:34 >> Use that leverage at all, and try to make sure I can just go forward with my
04:39 life, and at the end of the day, I'm gonna be working out, I'm gonna be snapping.
04:44 I'm gonna be ready if the moment arises, but
04:48 I know that it's not something that is guaranteed.
04:53 So I am ready if it doesn't turn out, pan out, but
04:57 at the same time, I'm gonna work as hard as I can to-
04:59 >> It still stays sharp, though, right?
05:01 >> Of course. >> In the snap, but how are you gonna,
05:02 how do you do that?
05:03 Do you have people that come and catch snaps for you?
05:06 Do you have targets on the wall?
05:07 >> I have a lot of support, people catch, when I can't keep up with the catch,
05:11 I usually just snap into the wall, like you said, just work on form, technique.
05:16 But at the end of the day, I do have a large support system, so that helps out.
05:22 >> And you're someone that's been recognized,
05:23 how is a long snapper, National Awards for long snapping and stuff,
05:28 how special is that for you?
05:30 >> The recognition is great.
05:32 I've been improving all my college career, and
05:35 at the end of the day, it's awesome to get that recognition.
05:39 I know at the end of the day, I'm probably one of the best long snappers
05:44 in college at this point in time for the past couple years, that's my own opinion.
05:48 And when it comes to the next level, I know that I have the capability
05:55 to play at that level for when it comes to my snapping ability.
06:00 And now it just needs to showcase that I can do the other aspects,
06:04 blocking, running down field at that level.
06:06 >> Thank you.
