00:00 Morning or doubt. What is it about Mike Norval in the offense that appeals to a running back?
00:03 Man, just his energy that he brings every day
00:07 The way he the way he just communicates with us as a team when we're all together is is is is unmatchable, man
00:15 It's his level is it his level of intensity is it's crazy
00:19 What do you like about this scheme like when you were in the recruiting process as quick as it was like what stopped you when
00:28 You were doing your research, and I guess what have you learned about it since arriving here?
00:31 Just being able to flex out do a lot of multiple things on the offense
00:36 Not just being a running back, but being a receiver out the backfield a lot of special plays built into I'm still learning it so
00:43 I can probably get to that question a little bit
00:46 On down the road once you've yaks again
00:48 Kind of following up on that can you just talk about your playing style?
00:55 And how you want to improve as a receiver during the offseason being a physical speed back very powerful
01:00 Being able to be smart and know the game
01:03 most importantly just being able to be an effective player on and off the field so
01:10 That's how I kind of revolve my myself around playing style and I care myself in life
01:15 Have you have you always looked like that if you always been into weight training and working out like when did this all start
01:24 Well 14 16 when you obviously are very committed to it. When did that start?
01:29 Oh, man, that started a while back probably when I was 7 years old. I was very committed to working out
01:35 I wanted a body I want to be built
01:39 So I was just like I used to do a lot of push-up a lot of sit-ups
01:42 Is to go on YouTube some of the time and look up some of the insanity workouts
01:46 We do them at home and knee kicks and stuff
01:48 I was doing a lot of stuff so it kind of started around the age of 7 8 I get that
01:53 The
01:55 Group of guys that came over from Alabama
01:58 Are those guys you were particularly close with and what's it like just having former teammates, you know your new home? Absolutely
02:05 I'm very close with those guys. I mean whenever I had a question about my recruiting process
02:11 I called those guys when I got down here. I called him a what's the closest food spot? No, they got down here
02:17 What's it like with the workout before I got the workouts was like, you know
02:20 Well, like what's going on so I can be hip on everything and just put together in all different places. They helped me a lot
02:27 The other day coach Norvell called you a natural-born leader
02:34 I guess what are your leadership stylings and what's it mean to hear that from the coach so early on in your tenure here?
02:39 Just being vocal
02:41 Being a leader by example a lot of the time a lot of people can see that
02:46 That I'm gonna lead by example, and that's what I want to do
02:49 I can be vocal as well, but lean by example showing people the way it's supposed to be done
02:54 I feel like that's that's a that's a big factor on how other people's access carry on by my
02:59 Right now adding on to that can you talk about your relationships right now in the running backroom specifically Lawrence to a feely but also some
03:08 Of the newer freshmen that are on the team. Okay, so you said I'm sorry
03:10 Um, can you talk about your relationship with Lawrence to a feely and some of the guys in the running backroom?
03:14 Well, we all close man. We got a group chat that we all in we communicate back and forth
03:19 We know we need something whether it's something we need a
03:21 Course that we have about a play or if coaches want to get in touch with us, man
03:26 We all touch bases and knock everything out whatever we need to do together, but we're super tight
03:31 Did a James talk recently about all the the grief he got when he came to Florida State back home
03:42 Did he convert any people around that area to Florida State?
03:46 Like what was it like watching him, you know win the Heisman Trophy back then?
03:49 Oh, man with me being in such a young age. I used to go to all the high school football games
03:54 It was kind of it was kind of it was kind of wild to see him on the team. He won
03:58 How's my I'm like, I'm at a young age. So I'm kind of still figuring things out
04:02 I know what's going on, but I don't so it's like okay. I can I can do that there. Let's try let's go for it
04:08 and you know, I kind of
04:10 Work my way around the things that he does and some of the ways being being the leadership him being vocal a vocal leadership
04:16 you know, you see some of his videos and I kind of
04:19 Translate my work and what I do on not the field to the some things that he translates and does
04:37 He said it again, I'm sorry when you entered the portal in the thought process of how that all went oh
04:42 When I got into the portal
04:45 first person to contact me was our coach Novel and
04:49 I just knew from right there right there that that was done. That was the perfect the perfect spot for me the way he
04:56 when we first got on the phone, it was just man it was
04:59 you can tell his his intentions when he when he called me and
05:04 Contacting me and what soon as I got in the portal
05:06 Less so picking Florida State, but when you're a player like you that's been established you you're from the state of Alabama
05:15 You're playing at the University of Alabama
05:17 What are some of the things that they're going to the process of maybe needing a change of scenery?
05:22 So you said that last part again?
05:24 What are the things that make a player want to enter the portal
05:29 I mean when you're somewhere and you've been there for three years you've been established you're getting playing time
05:32 What are some of the things that can maybe lead to wanting to see what else is out there?
05:35 Just the opportunity
05:38 everyone has opportunity on the table and I
05:41 Chose to take the opportunity
05:43 Calling the veil gave me the opportunity and I'm gonna take advantage
05:46 You know and and it's just a different feel just getting to know everybody again and coaching staff a new new field new playing style
05:53 and playbook so
05:55 It takes some getting adjusted to but I'm thankful and blessed for the opportunity that I call Novel game
06:01 What's it been like over the last month getting no coach Jack and what is he like in the meeting room?
06:08 Man, all these guys are intense man the workouts
06:11 Me getting it to the playbook off the off the field work
06:16 Just being able to just getting adapted like I said and and and get locked in with these guys man
06:25 We only got a couple more months until it's game time
06:28 And I want I want to see what everyone's like what?
06:30 If some of your early impressions of DJ you Angola light been what's he like personally as a leader those kind of things
06:38 he's a
06:42 Lay back, but you can tell his work ethic it shows a lot. He's a lead by example and a vocal guy
06:48 Along with all the other quarterbacks all of them do a great job. They stick together and whenever they think needs to be done
06:54 We all in the group chat together as well
06:57 So whenever some needs to go this way or some off the field work some extra work we can get it done with those guys
07:04 You said you wanted to be like a power back and a speed back
07:10 They had a guy like that in Trey Benson
07:13 Have you watched his did you watch his film or have you watched his film from last year trying to see how you'd fit in?
07:18 And do you see any similarities and in y'all's game?
07:23 Explosive I didn't know him personally, but just watching this tape man. That guy was a monster
07:28 And his playing style man. You can tell he's a hard runner
07:33 Physical fast I saw a clip man
07:36 the guys he got some speed on the man for him to be that size and
07:41 I can I saw I saw a little myself when I kind of watched his tape and the playing style today
07:47 Can fit it into
07:52 I
07:54 Think TJ and a couple of the other guys that played Alabama talked about your
07:58 Basically, they said like you never have a bad day like every day practice. You're always an upbeat and
08:03 And you motivate them. Have you always been that way or is that anything that you kind of learned?
08:08 Growing up as a player man. You always be that way. You got to keep a smile on your face
08:13 You you get to get this opportunity. You don't got to you know, you got the opportunity and you get to do it
08:19 So that's how I kind of wake up and go about my day
08:22 And give me a little juice to know that I get to do it. I don't got to
08:25 Thank y'all
