00:00 What's up everybody? John Hoover, all Sooners, all Sooners.com in with yet another very special guest. It's Josh Asosa.
00:08 He is from Santa Fe High School in Edmond, OK. He's been committed to the Sooners since August.
00:15 And now he's signed with the Sooners. He is going to tell us now how that feels to be signed after all this time as a recruit, as a prospect, as a commitment.
00:26 Now you've signed. Oh, it feels good. You know, I always wanted this day to come and I'm definitely ready for it and really excited with the future holds.
00:39 Josh is an offensive lineman, so of course we have to ask about your relationship with Bill Beatonbow and how that kind of relationship has evolved since the first time you met him.
00:48 I don't know if it was at a camp or whatever, but from the first time you met him until your prospect and then a recruit and then a commit and then a signee, how's that relationship kind of evolved?
01:00 Oh, it's been you know, it's been good knowing him and you know, our relationships evolved a lot over the past couple months, especially since recruiting was heating up and I was getting ready to make a decision.
01:13 You know, we got to know each other a lot more and we know what we expect of each other and how we feel about each other.
01:19 And he's a great guy to be around and to know. And he's definitely a mentor.
01:26 I can see that he's going to teach me a lot and he's going to help me get to where I want to be in the future.
01:36 Yeah, he's a very he's a players coach, but he's also very demanding coach. You ready for that kind of that level of coaching in in college?
01:44 Most definitely, that's what I signed up for. Yeah, for sure. Now you're going to be an early enrollee. Tell me about the process that went into that for you.
01:53 I just kind of wanted a head start, you know, get in front of some of the other guys.
01:58 You know, I want to end up playing this year and you know, that's going to help me out if I go earlier.
02:05 Yeah, it looks like there's some immediate openings, Josh, on the offensive line next year.
02:09 There's going to need five new starters. So tell me about how you've kind of approached that opportunity as guys have transferred or graduated or gone on to the NFL.
02:20 I've seen it as a great thing, you know. There's a there's opportunity for me to play really early when things like that happen.
02:30 And I see it as a blessing almost. It's it's not it's sad to see people leave, but, you know, it makes other opportunities for guys.
02:37 I mean, to end up on the field. It sounds like one of your goals, you mentioned it earlier, is to play as a freshman.
02:44 Do you have any other goals for your freshman year? Kind of just get better in the weight room and, you know, just end up playing and build a name for myself, I guess.
02:55 You think it's going to be hard to stay patient as a as a true freshman stepping up into college football?
03:01 No, patience is a big thing that everyone needs, and as a freshman, especially, you need to stay patient and stay the course and trust the process so things end up better for you in the future.
03:15 Yeah, he's finishing up year two as a head coach, Brent Venables. What do you think about him as a head coach so far?
03:23 He's a great guy that knows what he wants, knows what he needs.
03:26 And obviously this season you can see the potential for things to happen.
03:32 And, you know, I think even next season we could have a greater one than we did this year.
03:38 Any thoughts about the new offensive coordinator, Seth Luttrell?
03:43 I haven't talked to him yet, so I don't really know much about him. Right.
03:46 But I see that I see the potential.
03:50 Sure. Do you have a roommate picked out next semester?
03:54 Yeah. Who's going to be? Daniel.
03:59 Daniel, you get to learn all about the UK culture.
04:04 Yeah. Well, let's talk about that class.
04:09 You've got Daniel Akinkumi. You've got Eddie Pierre-Louis. You've got Isaiah Autry and Eugene Brooks, guys from all over the country, guys from all over the globe.
04:17 Tell me about the relationship. Maybe you've started building with some of those guys and how that's going to grow.
04:22 That relationship is going to evolve as you guys get to work at OU.
04:28 Recently, we've all been really close talking to each other.
04:32 I feel like this OLR class we have could be really great and things could be really bright in the future for all five of us.
04:42 I see the potential in all of this. We can definitely get playing time in the future, maybe even this season.
04:48 You know, we're all really good at what we do, and I think we're going to prove it in the future.
04:55 Josh, one last question for you. How would you describe your own game?
04:58 What kind of strengths do you have? What kind of weaknesses do you need to maybe work on?
05:04 Definitely technique and staying low are some of our weaknesses.
05:08 I need to work on that, but once I have a hair amount of guy, it's pretty much over.
05:17 That's what I've been showing all season.
05:21 If I get a hold of you, you're not getting away. You're going to the ground.
05:26 But actual technique and staying low are two things I need to work on.
05:31 All right, that's Joshua A. Sosa, class of 2024 for the Oklahoma Sooners. Josh, thanks for joining us at allsooners.com.
