00:00 What's up everybody? John Hoover,
00:01 all Sooners all Sooners.com.
00:02 Another special guest is on the line right now.
00:05 It's Andy Bass.
00:06 I don't know what to call him.
00:08 Quarterback running back all purpose back.
00:10 He's from Heritage Hall there in Oklahoma City
00:13 and he is a hell of a player.
00:15 Fantastic player.
00:16 Andy, appreciate you jumping on with all Sooners,
00:19 man. Thank you.
00:20 It's a pleasure to be on.
00:22 Yeah, for sure.
00:23 Now you committed in September eventually.
00:26 But now that signing day is here,
00:28 everybody's kind of kind of gauging
00:30 everybody's personal feelings.
00:31 How's it feel to have that thing
00:33 behind you signing day feels great.
00:35 You know, never had any second
00:36 choice or second thoughts since
00:38 when I first committed back before
00:39 the season started is definitely
00:41 really nice to be able to have that
00:43 out of the way and focus on the season.
00:45 Kept a great relationship with all the
00:47 coaches so super thankful for that
00:49 and ready to sign tomorrow evening.
00:50 Now you got a lot of offers or interest.
00:54 I guess from after even after you
00:56 committed to Oklahoma, is that right?
00:58 Yeah, a few schools were just
00:59 kind of seeing where I was at,
01:01 but just told him you know Boomer sooner.
01:04 All my my intention was to sign
01:05 with you in the December.
01:07 So let's start at the end.
01:11 Of your story right now where
01:13 you're sitting right now.
01:15 Bro, you had an ACL in the
01:16 state championship game.
01:17 You guys were dominating.
01:19 You were dominating and then you go out.
01:21 Lost the game.
01:22 It was the worst possible scenario
01:24 for an individual player.
01:25 The way to go out like that.
01:27 Tell me about how tough that
01:29 was to to kind of overcome.
01:30 You know adversity makes hard man, right?
01:33 But that's that's about as hard
01:34 as it gets for a kid your age.
01:36 Yeah, absolutely.
01:37 That game was, you know,
01:38 building up to all the hype that I
01:41 think everybody imagined had a great
01:42 first half we were up, you know,
01:44 28 to 7 at one point in the game.
01:46 So just wish I could really finish it
01:49 out with all my teammates and all my coaches.
01:51 Definitely it's a tough way to go out,
01:54 but I know like you said,
01:55 adversity is what builds people's character.
01:57 And you know, I think in the end it'll
02:01 just be another thing that is included
02:04 with my success so. So I'll give you
02:08 guys this Andy Rush for 3144 yards.
02:11 Sorry those were his passing stats.
02:14 Those were his passing stats.
02:16 3144 completed 66% 35 touchdowns,
02:18 two interceptions.
02:19 He ran for 1478 yards average,
02:22 almost 11 yards of carry.
02:24 30 touchdowns dude put up 65 touchdowns.
02:26 Oh, I'm sorry 66.
02:28 He caught a pass,
02:29 went 71 yards,
02:30 took it to the house for a touchdown.
02:33 66 touchdowns his senior year.
02:35 Andy help me out here man.
02:37 How would you describe your game?
02:39 What kind of player is Oklahoma getting?
02:42 I would say getting somebody
02:44 that can kind of do it all.
02:46 I think they know that too.
02:48 I've definitely worked a lot
02:50 last offseason on my passing.
02:51 I would say that was definitely
02:53 something that was overlooked in
02:55 my recruiting, especially early on.
02:57 So you know, I I really just hope
02:59 that everyone realizes you know
03:00 that I can kind of do a little bit
03:02 of everything and that my skill set
03:04 can be used anywhere on the field.
03:05 So super excited to display that
03:07 for all the sooner fans out there.
03:09 Now you're going to.
03:10 I'm presuming you're not an early enrollee.
03:12 You're going to be showing up
03:14 next June summer enrollee.
03:15 I'm assuming that you're going to
03:17 be doing a lot of ACL rehab and a
03:19 lot of strengthening and stuff like that.
03:21 That's your priority at this point.
03:23 Oh absolutely.
03:23 I've already started prehab worked.
03:25 We've been doing before surgery,
03:26 getting surgery in a couple
03:28 days here on Friday and then you
03:30 know right back at it with the rehab.
03:32 I'm definitely going to be
03:34 busting my tail on that,
03:35 making sure I can get back to 110%.
03:38 You're going to be doing most
03:40 of it there at OU, right?
03:42 Or or you gotta?
03:43 You gotta specialist you're
03:44 working with in Oklahoma City,
03:46 right now I'm working with Steve
03:47 Carlin with Echo Sports physical therapy.
03:49 He does a great job.
03:50 Unfortunately, you know with the rules,
03:52 I'm not allowed to work with OU's
03:54 training staff until I'm actually
03:55 enrolled in the school.
03:56 So you know, as soon as I get up there,
03:58 I'll be working with them constantly as well.
04:00 Lot of question.
04:01 Another question a lot of people are asking.
04:03 What the heck position are you going to play?
04:04 I know the answer is whatever
04:06 position they want me to,
04:07 but what what did they talk to you about?
04:09 What what kind of contributions do they
04:11 want you to make when you do get there?
04:13 Right, yeah, I'll be in the running
04:15 backs room is what I've been told
04:16 with Coach Murray which I've developed
04:18 a great relationship with him.
04:19 He's definitely one of my favorite
04:21 offensive coaches that I've been around.
04:23 I haven't even played for him yet,
04:24 so just kind of our relationship
04:26 that we've developed and then even
04:28 the new offensive coordinators were
04:29 already hours at practice earlier
04:30 last week and we were talking and.
04:34 You know, I don't think anything
04:36 falls off offensively for the
04:37 seniors at all. If anything,
04:38 it's going to go up coastal trail
04:40 and coach Jojo and Finley are.
04:42 They have some great offensive minds,
04:43 so I'm super excited to play for them.
04:45 Yeah, that was going to be my next question.
04:48 Was what do you think about the new offense?
04:50 Not a lot to go on yet,
04:52 but you know,
04:52 Seth Littrell was a head coach.
04:54 He was offensive coordinator at
04:55 Indiana and North Carolina.
04:56 He's got a track record.
04:58 Oh, absolutely yeah.
05:00 And on top of that,
05:01 he's a great person as well.
05:02 He was at my state championship
05:04 game supporting me so super
05:05 appreciative of him and I can't
05:06 wait to build our relationship
05:08 these next few years. Tell me
05:09 about getting to work a little
05:11 bit more with DeMarco.
05:12 He's one of your favorite coaches
05:13 already and you haven't even
05:15 gotten to work with him yet.
05:16 Why is that? What do you like
05:18 about his personality?
05:19 Well, he's a great recruiter.
05:20 I know everything he's kind of made
05:22 me super familiar with everything.
05:23 The way that they do things around
05:24 you so in just being around him
05:26 at practice the other day I know
05:28 he pushes every single guy in his
05:29 room to be the best player that
05:31 they can possibly be so I mean I
05:33 couldn't really ask for anything else.
05:34 Have you gotten a look at the
05:36 the quarterback room yet?
05:37 Just you know Jackson and and the
05:39 guys that are coming in how how
05:41 exciting that is. I mean you're
05:43 going to be on the other end of
05:45 passes coming from those guys.
05:46 Yeah, for sure.
05:47 I was watching Jackson the other day.
05:49 I mean he can spin it.
05:50 You know he's probably got one of
05:52 the most live arms I've ever seen,
05:54 but in my guy Mike Hawkins.
05:55 I'm super excited for him coming in.
05:57 I watched some of his highlights
05:58 from his state championship run
06:00 and he can ball for sure.
06:01 So I'm super excited to be on the
06:03 same side of the ball with him.
06:05 Are you going to be a little
06:08 disappointed maybe if you play
06:09 four years at OU and score a
06:11 bunch of touchdowns and win a
06:13 bunch of games and don't get to
06:15 throw a pass? Oh no, no, no,
06:16 it's not just whatever way I
06:18 can help the team out. And as
06:19 long as we're getting wins,
06:21 we're getting wins.
06:21 They gotta come up with a package, man.
06:23 66% 35 touchdowns,
06:24 two interceptions.
06:24 They gotta come up with a package
06:26 to put you get the ball in your
06:28 hands and let you sling it.
06:29 That would be awesome.
06:30 They're pretty creative that creative.
06:31 They'll they'll be able to
06:32 come up with something.
06:34 You know that weapon.
06:35 So other than your ACL rehab,
06:36 what are your goals for your freshman year?
06:39 I really just want to get custom to
06:41 the way every they do things that you.
06:43 I'm sure it'd be great to be able
06:45 to do that and I'm sure it's
06:47 gonna be great to be able to play
06:50 in a game 'cause I've been told
06:52 about nine months is the timeline
06:54 on my ACL so that would be,
06:56 you know, we'll see.
06:58 See if my math is good about
07:00 September is when I'll be back,
07:02 so hopefully we'll be able to be
07:04 a part of next year's team 130.
07:07 Tell me about Brent Venables.
07:08 As a head coach,
07:09 he's he's been at it now for a couple of years.
07:12 What have you learned about him as a head coach?
07:14 Great person outside of just coach
07:16 and I know I said that about the
07:18 other coaches too, but that's really
07:20 just what makes you staff so special.
07:22 Is that off the field they are just
07:23 great people and they're always
07:25 super willing to talk and just
07:27 get to know you better.
07:28 So I think coach Venables being a
07:30 defensive mind will definitely
07:31 help us going into the SEC.
07:32 You know there's some great
07:33 offenses in there,
07:34 so just being able to match
07:36 them with a great defense and
07:37 we've had a great recruiting
07:39 class this year as well.
07:40 He's done a great job,
07:41 so super confident being able to
07:43 go into the big league next year.
07:45 That's Andy Bass, Oklahoma class of 2024.
07:47 Andy, thanks for joining us at all Sooners.
07:50 Alright, thank you.
