00:00 Visitors and workers details were taken before they were ushered out with little information given in return.
00:07 They just told us exit.
00:09 I saw a lot of cars, like a lot of, I think the police asking questions to people that are coming out.
00:15 She is from the same country as I am, so I'm just worried about it.
00:19 Do you know her? Who is she?
00:21 I don't know her, because nothing has been revealed yet, so I wasn't there.
00:25 Police were called to the zoo just before 1pm.
00:28 Witnesses have described loud screams from around the commercial kitchen area, and they responded to that.
00:37 Officers found the body of a 29-year-old female employee in a storeroom.
00:41 It's apparently at this stage that the deceased died as a result of stab wounds.
00:45 A post-mortem examination will be conducted in coming days, but at this stage it looks like she's been stabbed to death with a knife.
00:52 Another employee, a 29-year-old Oakes Estate man, is now in custody. The relationship between the pair is yet to be determined.
01:01 He had apparently suffered some self-inflicted injuries, and he was transported to the Canberra Hospital, where he remains under police guard.
01:09 At the start of the school holidays, it's normally a busy time for the zoo, but with a homicide investigation now underway, it's not certain how long it will need to remain closed.
01:17 Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim and the fellow workers at the National Zoo and Aquarium.
01:24 They've sent an email saying that they'll be with psychologists and everyone to talk to about if you're not feeling well and tomorrow.
01:31 Anyone with information about the incident is being urged to contact Crimestoppers.
01:36 was.
