10 Video Games That Might SUCK in 2024

00:00 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and while we always have the highest hopes for any and all new
00:04 video games coming out, these have us worried they could end up being some of the biggest
00:09 letdowns of 2024.
00:17 Black Myth Wukong
00:26 First announced back in 2020, Black Myth Wukong blew everyone's collective eyeballs out of
00:32 their heads with stunning visuals and solid, hard-hitting combat.
00:36 Three years later and a switch to Unreal Engine 5, and we're closer than we've ever been to
00:42 the game's full release.
00:43 However, in the time since Black Myth's reveal, there have certainly been no shortage of Souls-like
00:49 open world games, especially the biggest one coming from the pioneers of the genre FromSoft
00:55 with Elden Ring, which fundamentally reinvented the entire landscape around Souls games.
01:02 Black Myth still looks incredible, and its art design is top-notch, but in the shadow
01:07 of the Urd Tree, this monkey might not be able to do enough tricks to stand out in an
01:12 already overcrowded landscape.
01:15 This is also the developers' first game, which isn't a knock against them, but their ambitions
01:21 might outpace their abilities.
01:29 Destiny 2 - The Final Shape
01:39 After a laundry list of bizarre decisions that have splintered the fanbase, also among
01:44 numerous layoffs, the studio has been struggling for a number of years now.
01:49 And while the Destiny community is loyal, their loyalty seems to have been tested one
01:54 too many times as hype for the latest expansion for Destiny is at an all-time low.
02:00 Even the resurrection of beloved character Cayde-6 has done little to move the needle
02:04 for Bungie, and the expansion recently suffered an almost six-month delay to the middle of
02:10 2024.
02:11 Bungie's attempts to appeal to a broader audience by oversimplifying the mechanics for newcomers
02:17 has also been met with substantial backlash from the community.
02:20 For pioneers of the live-service industry, it would seem the bubble has finally burst
02:25 for the Traveler and Bungie as a whole, and we wonder if Sony might be regretting their
02:30 multi-billion dollar investment.
02:41 Helldivers 2 - The Original Helldivers
02:54 The original Helldivers was a surprise hit with gamers back in 2015, and became one of
03:00 the standout cooperative shooters of the year.
03:03 The game's top-down perspective belied a deep combat loop that required far more strategy
03:08 than many players expected.
03:09 With a sequel, Arrowhead and Sony are shifting the perspective to third-person.
03:14 However, where gamers enjoyed the smaller scale of encounters with their friends and
03:18 teammates in the original, Helldivers 2 is going much bigger and louder.
03:24 While it would have been enough to simply change the gameplay to a more boots-on-the-ground
03:27 approach, with much of the core experience remaining unchanged, Sony's push for more
03:32 live-service games might be the death nail that squanders the sequel's potential, and
03:37 even long-time fans are already cautious of the series' new approach.
03:48 Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered
03:50 Admittedly, our concerns are less with the state of the original games, and more with
03:55 the team in charge of the remaster.
03:57 While what we've seen so far does seem like not only a faithful remaster, but also a significant
04:03 improvement over the two-decade-old classics, Aspyr's recent track record of ports and remasters
04:09 does cause us to have some reservations.
04:11 Their switch ports of the classic KOTOR and KOTOR 2 games were wildly underwhelming, and
04:17 while the remaster of the original Tomb Raider trilogy will hopefully be a much more streamlined
04:22 upgrade, we do also wonder how much of the gameplay will be modernized.
04:26 Currently, players will be able to switch seamlessly between the classic and the remastered
04:31 graphics, but we don't know how much the control schemes for these games will be updated
04:36 beyond vague promises of modern quality of life improvements.
04:40 Without them, this remaster might be for the die-hard fans only.
04:44 Killer Clowns from Outer Space, the video game
04:51 Over the last few years, a lot of beloved movie properties have been updated into asymmetric
04:56 multiplayer games, such as the Evil Dead series, Friday the 13th, and the countless cameos
05:01 in the Dead by Daylight franchise.
05:03 However, these are all beloved properties that still have rabid fanbases even today,
05:09 so who thought adapting a long-forgotten B-movie Killer Clowns from Outer Space would be enough
05:14 to pull in fans from those other, far more successful multiplayer offerings?
05:19 While the game does seem to be doing an impressive job recreating the outright strangeness of
05:23 its source material, and some of the traps and abilities of the clowns do faithfully
05:28 emulate the films, in a market already overcrowded with asymmetric multiplayer games with more
05:34 and more being shuttered every year, we have our doubts this one will do enough to stand
05:39 out, let alone develop a following.
05:47 Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
05:56 When a game enters development hell the way Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 has,
06:01 it's usually highly unlikely the game will ever see the light of day, let alone be any
06:06 good.
06:07 However, after numerous delays and a change of studio, many fans are rightfully concerned
06:13 about the state of the newest entry, and haven't been very pleased with the footage that's
06:17 been shown so far.
06:19 Even with the shift of developers to the Chinese room, very little seems to have changed.
06:25 While the Chinese room are competent developers, most of their titles are narrative walking
06:29 simulators, so giving them Bloodlines 2 seems like an odd choice given their pedigree.
06:36 Many have also voiced concerns about the game's combat, which just seems bland and unimpactful,
06:42 not fully capturing the feel of a vampire fully embracing their otherworldly powers.
06:47 Stranger things have happened, but this undead abomination might have been better left sleeping
06:52 forever.
07:02 Foam Stars
07:11 Despite their numerous and catastrophic failures, it seems like Square Enix just never learns.
07:17 After having to prematurely shut down both Marvel's Avengers and Babylon's Fall, Square
07:23 is back with their Splatoon clone, Foam Stars, which looks to be their next big bid for a
07:28 live service title.
07:30 While the game has been testing well during preview events, the bubblegum pop aesthetic
07:35 definitely isn't for everyone, and given Square's predatory practices in the past, Foam Stars
07:41 will likely be another microtransaction riddled mess whenever it finally launches.
07:46 With other hero shooters like Overwatch struggling over the last year, it's unlikely many gamers
07:52 will be willing to sink their valuable time, let alone hard-earned cash, into another free-to-play
07:57 multiplayer shooter, and Foam Stars could be yet another live service that is dead on
08:02 arrival.
08:11 Little Nightmares III
08:12 The world and characters created by original developer Tarsier Games have become the stuff
08:17 of, well, nightmares, with their terrifying worlds and horrific character designs becoming
08:22 instantly iconic.
08:24 After the success of their sequel, Tarsier bid farewell to the world of Little Nightmares,
08:29 with supermassive games of Until Dawn fame now taking over.
08:33 Unfortunately, the new developer is going in a decidedly different direction, and seems
08:38 to be focusing less on the isolated, claustrophobic design of the original games, and opening
08:43 up not only the world while also letting in more light, but ditching the isolation in
08:48 favor of co-op gameplay.
08:50 Hopefully, Supermassive manages to maintain the series' overall oppressive tone, and
08:55 doesn't focus too much on a forced co-op experience.
08:59 South Park Snow Day
09:04 South Park has had no shortage of video games over the many years the show has been on the
09:09 air, but the series seems to have finally found its niche with the back-to-back successes
09:14 of Stick of Truth and The Fractured But Whole.
09:17 So instead of continuing that goodwill, South Park's follow-up to those hits will of course
09:23 be a co-op multiplayer shooter.
09:25 Many also question the graphical change to 3D when the past games had perfectly captured
09:30 the look and feel of the classic series.
09:33 Although the game can be played solo, and does feature an overall narrative continuing
09:38 the boys' Dungeons and Dragons roleplay, the tonal shift for a standard shooter looks
09:43 to be more chasing trends rather than innovating on a classic formula like previous games.
09:49 Hopefully, the series' humor and overarching story will be stronger than its gameplay,
09:54 and the boys' next adventure will be a return to form.
10:03 Suicide Squad
10:16 For the better part of a decade, Rocksteady reinvented not only Batman games, but also
10:22 perfected a combat design that has been widely adapted by the entire gaming industry.
10:28 Gamers had long been anticipating their next entry into the Arkhamverse, and with Suicide
10:33 Squad killed at Justice League, Rocksteady blew everyone's minds in the worst way imaginable.
10:40 Instead of the studio's tightly designed combat and world design, players will be exploring
10:44 a metropolis overrun by Brainiac with all the standard looter shooter mechanics and
10:49 microtransactions that have become the bane of gamers for the last few years.
10:54 In addition, many have called out the boring shoot-the-glowy-bits gameplay with each of
10:59 the titular Suicide Squad lacking any individuality, with all seemingly having access to the same
11:05 arsenal and mechanics.
11:08 This is NOT what the community wanted from the acclaimed developer, and they have not
11:12 been shy about making that clear.
