00:00 Welcome to the KOH Chronicles, the people show.
00:11 Checking the pulse of a very excited Husker Nation brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
00:17 Check them out.
00:18 DPS Construction.net.
00:19 Ladies and gentlemen, it's like there's nothing going on in Nebraska.
00:23 Like the volleyball team, the football team, other sports, there's nothing to talk about.
00:28 Oh my God, it was mayhem yesterday.
00:30 So I know a lot of people's phones were blowing up.
00:32 Mine was no different.
00:33 Adam, what are you hearing?
00:34 Adam, what's real?
00:35 Adam, what's legit?
00:36 I tend to be slow to get things out because I try to put the emphasis on being accurate,
00:41 things of that nature.
00:42 So there's been tons of videos put out, a lot of people doing a really good job.
00:46 Here are my thoughts, because there's nothing to talk about in Husker football.
00:49 All right, real quick.
00:51 If you are as excited as I am, okay, about a guy like Dylan Raiola, who's been the number
00:57 one quarterback, number one recruit for most of his recruiting life, we'll call it.
01:01 Okay, Kyle McCord, who's a former five-star quarterback, a former Ohio State starting
01:05 quarterback, and Julian Fleming, former Ohio State wide receiver, and the number one wide
01:10 receiver in 2020, looking like they're trending towards Nebraska.
01:15 If you're as excited as I am about that, and you haven't yet done so, then hit that subscribe
01:20 button.
01:21 And never miss anything on the Carriker Chronicles.
01:22 Now, if you think Matt Rule and the Huskers will land at least two of those players I
01:28 just mentioned, smash that like button.
01:32 And we're going to talk about who's trending where and all this and that, because we know
01:36 Dylan and Kyle are kind of trending towards Nebraska.
01:38 It's been a little bit more quiet on the Julian front, but I'll get to that in just a minute.
01:42 Now Dylan Raiola, if you didn't know, the number one quarterback and number one player
01:47 in the recruiting class since he was a freshman.
01:49 Now you go to ESPN's, I always look at the most up-to-date things, ESPN's top 300 rankings.
01:54 He's currently the eighth ranked player in the country.
01:56 Okay, now what's interesting is the top 1 through 10 players all have a grade of 91.
02:00 I thought that was interesting, but he's great at eighth, ESPN's top, ranked eighth player
02:06 in the country.
02:07 The number two quarterback, okay, and the number one pocket passer in the country currently
02:10 right here as we stand right now.
02:11 If you don't know, he's a legacy player, potentially, here at the University of Nebraska.
02:15 His dad, Dominic, was an All-American center, okay, Remington Award winner here at the
02:19 University of Nebraska.
02:20 His uncle, Donovan, coaches the offensive line right now, who by the way, Donovan just
02:24 got an extra year on his contract and 53% raise as of yesterday, or at least it was
02:29 announced yesterday.
02:30 Alright, now he's an incredibly talented, talk about Dylan, incredibly talented player,
02:36 and I will say this, he reminds me at times of a young Patrick Mahomes.
02:40 I'm not saying that's who he's going to be, not putting undue pressure on him, but it's
02:44 like, hey, you watch this guy, who does he remind you of?
02:46 At times, he reminds me of him, okay?
02:49 He's got a bright future, high potential, that's all I'm saying.
02:51 Now, we could potentially have two five-star quarterbacks in our quarterback room in the
02:56 very near future here at the University of Nebraska.
02:58 Now, how did this come about with Dylan?
03:00 Now here's what I know.
03:02 I know something happened last week when Raiola's family was on campus at Georgia.
03:08 Not sure exactly what, okay?
03:11 Now I know I watched Corn Cray's video, okay, Connor Hayden, go check it out, check out
03:15 his channel if you'd like.
03:16 He does a great job.
03:17 He kind of speculated that also maybe that word "compete" doesn't thrill Dylan, and here's
03:24 why.
03:25 Here's why.
03:26 Because a place like Georgia, they're going to be recruiting five-star quarterbacks year
03:31 after year after year, which they are, but it's because the family is so confident that
03:37 Dylan's a difference maker and it doesn't really matter where he goes, he's going to
03:41 be that difference maker.
03:42 So that was something that's been thrown out there.
03:46 Now I also think Matt Rule just has a great relationship with Dylan and the Raiola family
03:52 as well.
03:53 Okay, now, when you look at Dylan's senior season last year, they moved to Beaufort,
03:58 Georgia, okay?
03:59 Now he had a good senior season last year, maybe not quite what they had hoped, but again,
04:03 when you have such high expectations, okay, you've got to keep everything in perspective,
04:08 everything's relative.
04:09 Now for me, I think this could be huge for Nebraska, and that's obvious.
04:13 But I'd be remiss if I didn't point some things out, because you're always going to get all
04:19 the facts that I know and I have with me, because the facts are what they are, and facts
04:23 don't care about your feelings.
04:24 So here are a couple things I'd be remiss if I didn't just share them with you fine
04:26 folks.
04:27 Dylan has been a part of four different high schools, okay, in three different states,
04:33 Texas, Arizona, and Beaufort, okay?
04:35 They moved to Beaufort after he committed to Georgia, and he's obviously transferred
04:38 multiple times, okay?
04:40 Now he originally committed to Ohio State, then he committed to Georgia, and now he could
04:45 possibly flip his commitment again to Nebraska.
04:48 I'm as excited as anybody that he might come, but like I said, I've got to share all those
04:54 facts with you as well, just keep that in mind.
04:57 And I will bring up Daniel Kaelin, I did an interview with him, he impressed me mightily
05:00 in the interview by the way, go back and check it out on this YouTube channel if you haven't
05:05 seen it.
05:06 I really like him, and I hope Husker fans appreciate him.
05:10 He flipped immediately from Missouri to Nebraska as soon as Ryola committed to Georgia.
05:15 He wants to be a Husker, he wants to play here, he's from Nebraska.
05:18 And then he peer recruited a bunch of guys, he listed a whole slew of guys when I asked
05:23 him who have you peer recruited or helped peer recruit to Nebraska in that interview.
05:27 And I don't want to say he helped save the class, but he had a major impact on getting
05:29 more guys to come to this class, and he's actually the first Elite 11 quarterback from
05:35 Nebraska that we've ever had.
05:38 He's a smart, accurate player.
05:40 Now all I'm saying, and who knows how all this is going to play out, it's exciting times.
05:45 I want a quarterback competition, I just do.
05:49 Obviously we want talent.
05:51 We clearly didn't have a true quarterback battle last year, I feel like that's easy
05:54 to say.
05:55 When you're day one starter, it's probably the third best quarterback on your roster,
05:59 which is what happened last year.
06:01 And the guy who was on your scout team, running your scout team a good portion of the year,
06:05 probably was the best quarterback you had on the roster by the end of the year.
06:08 We clearly didn't have a quarterback battle, a true competition last year.
06:14 Now I love what Matt Ruhle and his staff are doing right now, how can you not?
06:17 Okay, but we've got to get it right this year, we need a true quarterback competition.
06:21 Alright, I'm always adamant about competition.
06:24 It's that simple for me, I've always been that way.
06:26 I have said I don't care who you are when you walk through the door.
06:30 Once you sign and you're walking through the door, what I care about is what you do in
06:33 the building.
06:34 You want talent.
06:35 You want guys with ability.
06:38 What Nick Saban said the other day, he's not very good at coaching bad players to be good.
06:42 I'm paraphrasing, but he said that on ESPN, or on Pat McAfee's show actually, I digress.
06:48 But I've never met a coach that's good at coaching bad players to be good.
06:54 Not typically, anyways.
06:55 Alright, now, Kyle McCord.
06:57 He was spotted on a flight to Omaha yesterday by Greg Smith.
07:02 I'm thinking about, because Matt Ruhle likes to build programs.
07:05 He likes to build programs.
07:06 I don't think you have quite the time you used to when you want to build programs.
07:10 The Transfer Portal, NIL, it's not the same as the last time Matt Ruhle was in college
07:13 football.
07:14 And I think he recognizes that.
07:15 I think he also recognized that Carolina, maybe he should have done some things, and
07:19 by the way, Carolina's awful this year.
07:21 So it clearly wasn't Matt Ruhle.
07:23 But my point is, I think he probably recognizes, maybe use free agency a little bit to speed
07:28 up that building process.
07:29 Well, free agency in college football is, let's be honest, the Transfer Portal and NIL.
07:34 And we clearly, he never really had a great quarterback at Carolina.
07:37 We clearly need an upgraded quarterback.
07:39 So why not do what he's doing now and try to get upgrades, whether it's getting a recruit
07:44 to flip, whether it's the Transfer Portal, NIL, whatever the case may be, at the quarterback
07:47 position and accelerate what he's already doing here at the University of Nebraska,
07:51 which is several things that have been improved.
07:53 Yeah, there were some games last year, I'm just like, "What the?"
07:58 But there are things that undeniably are better.
08:00 And when you have the amount of players staying at Nebraska that are staying, that speaks
08:04 volumes too.
08:05 Alright, so I completely went off my notes here.
08:08 Let me try to find my way back here.
08:12 The next thing I got here is, Kyle McCord's a pocket passer.
08:16 Last year we ran a lot with our quarterbacks.
08:18 So clearly, there is a shift in offensive philosophy that's going to happen and change
08:23 that's going to be going forward in the future.
08:24 And even Dylan Raiola is more of a pocket passer, even though he moves around more than
08:28 Kyle McCord did.
08:29 So it's clear a little bit of a shift.
08:31 Now, if you're an Ohio State fan, one of the things they've said about Kyle McCord is that
08:36 maybe he did not push the ball downfield as much as they would have liked.
08:40 Now he's efficient, he's accurate, he takes care of the ball pretty well.
08:46 He completed 65.8% of his passes last year.
08:49 Nebraska's quarterbacks combined completed 52% of their passes.
08:53 McCord had 24 touchdowns, 6 interceptions on the year.
08:56 The Husker quarterbacks had a combined 10 touchdown passes thrown and 16 interceptions.
09:02 Not a single Husker quarterback had more touchdowns thrown than interceptions and you really want
09:07 a 2-1 ratio.
09:08 At least, that's a minimum to be considered a decent quarterback.
09:12 Now McCord had a 4 touchdown to interception ratio.
09:15 Now he's not a dual threat quarterback like I mentioned, he's a true pocket passer.
09:21 Now if you want to follow a good account on Twitter, check out @HuskEyes.
09:27 Now here's what he said, "Ohio State fans out here acting like McCord is a Division
09:31 II quarterback.
09:32 He finished 7th all-time in single-season passing yards, 11th all-time in single-season
09:35 passing touchdowns, 7th all-time in single-season completions, 10th best passing efficiency
09:41 all-time, 11 wins in a top-10 passing season in their storied 100+ year history just wasn't
09:47 enough for Husker fans."
09:50 So in 2023, McCord finished with 3,170 passing yards, 7th best season by a quarterback in
09:55 Ohio State history behind Dwayne Haskins, CJ Stroud twice, Joe Germain, Justin Fields,
10:00 Bobby Hoying.
10:01 McCord's 3,170 passing yards is more than JT Barrett, Art Schlichter, Troy Smith, Braxton
10:08 Miller ever had in a single season.
10:10 Now in fairness, every single one of those guys I just mentioned ran the ball a lot better
10:15 than McCord, to be fair.
10:17 Now McCord finished with a 65.8% completion, presented the 6th best in Ohio State history
10:21 behind Stroud twice, Fields twice, and Haskins.
10:23 McCord's 24 touchdown passes are tied for 11th most in Ohio State history with Barrett,
10:27 2016, Miller, 2013.
10:30 McCord also had 229 completions, 7th most in school history, 348 attempts, 9th most,
10:35 and a 161.6 passing efficiency rating, 10th best.
10:40 Now here's the deal, they asked him to throw the ball a lot more than they did some of
10:43 these other quarterbacks in fairness because they were dual threat guys, but Nebraska wants
10:46 to run the ball first, so that'll take a little bit of pressure off McCord.
10:50 Okay, now again, here's all the facts.
10:53 I was intrigued by a lot of these guys, by Fleming and by McCord, like what were you
10:57 rated out of high school, what are you rated now in the transfer portal?
11:00 So McCord was a 5-star coming out of high school and he's a 4-star in the transfer portal,
11:03 won the top 5 transfer portal quarterback, so not bad, doing pretty good.
11:07 Okay, now he's more of a game manager, and this is where Husker fans have to be appropriate
11:13 with expectations.
11:14 Yes, he's an upgrade.
11:16 Yes, it's an improvement and better than what we had a year ago, absolutely, unquestionable,
11:20 but he's more of a game manager.
11:22 Now the Huskers had 5 losses last year by 1 score.
11:27 If we just have a quarterback who's a game manager, efficient, takes care of the ball,
11:30 we probably win 2, 3 more games, 7, 8, I don't want us to go 9, 10 wins, but at least 7 to
11:36 8 wins.
11:37 I think, and I think that's fair to say.
11:39 Now again, full disclosure, when you watch McCord and the toughest competition he faced,
11:45 he led Ohio State on a game-winning drive versus Notre Dame, okay, pretty good Notre
11:50 Dame team, not great.
11:51 When he played Penn State, I'll be honest with you, he didn't look great that day.
11:55 They won and Marvin Harrison was the difference in that game.
11:59 He really was, okay, they were clearly the better team than Penn State that day, even
12:03 though it was only an 8-point difference, but Marvin Harrison was the difference in
12:06 that game.
12:07 You watch the Michigan game, Ohio State played well.
12:08 McCord actually played pretty good.
12:11 He did have two interceptions in that game and the game did end on a McCord interception.
12:16 Just full disclosure when it comes to everything, you've got to have appropriate expectations
12:20 if he does indeed come here.
12:22 It's trending that way without a doubt.
12:24 He's not someone who's just going to single-handedly win games for you.
12:27 He's an efficient pocket passer who also had a top 10 QBR in the country last year, who
12:33 will manage the game well for you, and yes, he was surrounded by elite talent at Ohio
12:37 State last year.
12:39 And we're not there just yet.
12:40 You've got to love what Rule's doing right now, building, trying to get there.
12:44 But we just need someone to take care of the ball and run the offense at Nebraska.
12:48 That's all we need.
12:49 And McCord just needs appropriate expectations, which maybe he didn't get at Ohio State.
12:53 You can debate whether that's right or wrong.
12:56 As long as the appropriate expectations happen, this could be a really good fit.
13:00 Alright, random fact I forgot to share about Dylan Raiola that I found out.
13:04 He's the godson of Matthew Stafford.
13:07 I just thought that that was kind of interesting.
13:08 Now again, I want a true quarterback battle, true quarterback competition.
13:12 Don't forget about guys like Chubba Purdy.
13:14 I would love for him to stay and keep him.
13:16 Who knows what's going to happen with that, depending on how all this plays out.
13:20 And I absolutely love Heinrich Harburg.
13:22 He could be, if he doesn't stay a quarterback, I know Rule mentioned him as a quarterback
13:26 at his season-ending press conference, but he could be potentially a tight end if he
13:29 doesn't stay a quarterback.
13:30 I just love the way he plays, or a really big target at wide receiver, potentially.
13:34 Now, Julian Fleming, former Ohio State wide receiver.
13:38 He's going to be a senior.
13:39 6'2", 190 pounds.
13:40 He was the number one wide receiver in 2020.
13:41 He was a 5-star in high school.
13:42 He's now a 3-star in the transfer portal.
13:45 Okay, but when you're in an Ohio State wide receiving room that includes guys like Marvin
13:50 Harrison Jr., Mecca Abuka, easily two of the top four wide receivers in the country, that
13:54 could be why he hasn't shown just what he's capable of just yet.
13:58 Nebraska needs wide receivers.
13:59 Guys that can start day one.
14:01 We've got talent.
14:02 We've got speed.
14:03 We don't have a lot of experience.
14:04 A guy like Billy Kemp stepped in and was big for us when he was healthy last year.
14:08 I see Julian as a Billy Kemp, but just maybe even more talented, and I say that with all
14:12 due respect.
14:13 The guy can ball.
14:14 He needs opportunities and he needs to produce wherever he goes.
14:17 Okay, but he's that vet that we need, potentially.
14:20 Now, he's maybe not the best blocker in the world, and I know Rule wants his wide receivers
14:24 to block.
14:25 And, full disclosure, I know that Penn State and Kentucky are strongly in the mix for Fleming.
14:31 It's Nebraska, Penn State, Kentucky.
14:33 Nebraska's in the top three.
14:35 Penn State and Kentucky may have a slight edge right now, but I don't think there's
14:38 a whole lot of separation.
14:39 All right, I do want to mention fifth-year senior safety and Blackshirts leading tackler
14:44 Isaac Gifford and sixth-year senior, okay, position record holder for starts with 41
14:51 starts, Bryce Benhart, offensive tackle of a announcer, going to be back next season.
14:55 All right, three questions for you fine folks.
14:57 Who will be Nebraska's starting quarterback game one of next year?
14:59 Let's just have some fun with that one.
15:01 Number two, yes or no?
15:02 Simply say yes or no.
15:04 Kyle McCord plus Dylan Raiola plus Daniel Kalin plus Chubba Purdy, will they all be
15:09 in Nebraska's quarterback room next year?
15:12 If they are, we'll have two elite 11 quarterbacks in the room as well.
15:15 All right, my third question, simply yes or no, will Nebraska have a new quarterback coach
15:19 next year?
15:20 I'm just going to throw that out there.
15:21 Just going to toss that one out there to you fine folks.
15:25 Yes or no, will Nebraska have a new quarterback coach next year?
15:27 Also, this show is brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
