00:27 Again, that's jacobsonseed.com.
00:28 My guest today is the founder and CEO of AYS Sports and the co-host of the Rufino and Joe
00:35 Show.
00:36 Mr. Blake Rufino, how you doing, my friend?
00:37 Doing good, Adam.
00:38 Thank you for having me on.
00:39 I really appreciate it.
00:40 Any time I can come on and talk some college football, I'm really excited.
00:45 So I'm excited to be here with you.
00:47 I appreciate you joining me.
00:48 We got a plethora of things to talk about.
00:50 I know you cover LSU specifically.
00:52 I want to talk about Jaden Daniels, where he might go in the draft, what teams might
00:55 be a good fit.
00:56 But let's talk something else first.
01:00 Let's talk about a man, Chip Kelly, a man who's been a two-time head coach in the NFL,
01:05 took Oregon to almost new heights.
01:08 He helped them rise to where they are now.
01:10 The only thing they haven't done is really win a national title.
01:14 This man, I'm just going to call what it is, it's a demotion going from head coach to offensive
01:18 coordinator, didn't even go to the NFL.
01:20 He went to a, you could call maybe a overall better football program in Ohio State, but
01:24 he left the head coaching job at UCLA, which isn't a bad job, by the way, to be the offensive
01:28 coordinator with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
01:31 Now he's joining up with Ryan Day, who had been with him at New Hampshire and Philadelphia
01:35 and the Niners.
01:36 And he's taken, now we don't know the exact terms of the contracts, but Ohio State's got
01:41 to pay $1.5 million to buy out his contract.
01:44 Kelly had just gotten his second extension.
01:46 He made over $6 million last year.
01:49 Now he's going to take what we expect to be over a $4 million pay cut to do this.
01:53 Make sense of this for me, man.
01:55 Help me out.
01:56 Why would he do this?
01:57 I think, and Adam, you know, on Rufino and Joe, we had talked about this a lot, even
02:02 a month ago, there were rumblings out there that Chip Kelly might be fired at UCLA, right?
02:06 And there were a lot of things going on with Chip and do they want to move on from him?
02:12 I had the take and just overall thought process, you need to fire him now if you're UCLA.
02:19 You know, you want to know why?
02:20 He's not recruiting at the level he needs to recruit at.
02:23 Okay.
02:24 He's not doing what he needs to do at a program like UCLA.
02:29 Now that they're going into the big 10, look, you're a tier four, tier five program going
02:33 into the big 10.
02:34 This is a big leap.
02:35 This is a big deal.
02:37 And I got ridiculed for it.
02:38 Well, the main reason is you can't be lazy in today's world and recruiting.
02:42 I know everybody wants to have, well, these college coaches, they don't like NIA on the
02:49 portal.
02:50 Everybody's dealing with it.
02:52 Everybody is having to deal with, hey, ask Ohio state where you're going.
02:55 The running back that you just got, the quarterback that you're going to have in Will Howard,
02:59 where did they come from?
03:00 They weren't there last year.
03:01 Quenchon Juggins was not there last year.
03:04 So my point, my thought was, is that I just thought Chip Kelly was just done.
03:09 Like, Hey man, I just want to call plays.
03:12 I don't want to have to deal with any of this stuff and I want to move on.
03:15 So you know, it's funny, Adam, because if you look at it, it's like a human.
03:20 I start asking myself, did he just want less stress and how much do you put a price tag
03:26 on how less stress he has of being the head coach at UCLA, by the way, was going to go
03:31 into the big 10 and really start his, you know, his butt kicked.
03:35 Now he goes to a place where he can somewhat take a step back, revamp himself, his career.
03:42 And look, when they're the, one of the best offensive court or offensive teams in the
03:46 country, Florida's got an opening with Billy Napier.
03:49 It's coming.
03:50 Okay.
03:51 You mean to tell me they're not going to ask Chip Kelly his, what he wants to do.
03:54 He's going to be in those conversations of, Hey, is Chip Kelly's at Ohio state.
03:58 What do you do with him?
03:59 I just think that he did not want to be in the forefront of what's going on with NIL
04:06 and look, let's call it what it is at Ohio state.
04:09 You can walk in there and say, we're Ohio state.
04:11 They have guys that are going to enact NIL.
04:14 They have everything rolling to Ohio state where he can just recruit a little call plays
04:19 and be fine.
04:20 But one, one final thing for me on Chip Kelly.
04:23 Okay.
04:25 You cannot say that UCLA did not give him some things that he needed there.
04:32 Dante Moore was a five star quarterback, a top five prospect in the country.
04:37 How does he get there?
04:38 Adam?
04:39 Like, let's not be naive on how a quarterback in high school that highly ranked it's there.
04:43 You had booster backing.
04:45 That's the biggest excuse.
04:47 When I watched the Sean Foster at UCLA drawing a hunt, 200 people and boosters being there
04:53 wanting to support him, it seems a little bit lazy and him not wanting to go out there
04:59 and recruit.
05:00 But that's the way that I view it.
05:02 But going to Ohio state, which I'm sure we'll talk about, um, what a heck of a move.
05:08 My goodness.
05:09 This is a heck of a play calling move.
05:11 I want to get into Ohio state in a minute because they're my team to beat in the big
05:15 10.
05:16 I don't think that's going to be a shocking take.
05:18 I got them as a top two team in the country right now at this moment in time, you know,
05:22 when we're playing no games and had no practices, but for now it's all we got to talk about.
05:26 I got Georgia and Ohio state neck and neck right now at this moment in time, but let's
05:29 go back to chip Kelly.
05:30 I don't think UCLA is a bad job.
05:32 I mean, you're in California.
05:33 You got all these other schools that used to be in the pack 12.
05:36 Now the mighty pack two or whatever's going on with them.
05:38 And then all these other schools go into the big 12 recruits are not going to look, no
05:42 disrespect to Utah and Arizona, Arizona state.
05:45 They're not going to see them the same as they see a big 10 school, which UCLA is in
05:49 California.
05:50 And one of the few West coast, big 10 schools, which actually would make it a thousand times
05:53 easier to recruit.
05:54 I would imagine because now Stanford and Cal your other in-state competition along with
05:58 USC, Hey, you want to go play there?
06:00 You're going to go halfway across the country, like half a dozen or more times a year.
06:03 I'm pretty sure UCLA is not a bad job, but you look at UCLA right now.
06:07 They lost their head coach.
06:09 Okay.
06:10 To a demotion is how I see it.
06:11 And obviously chip Kelly's happy with it.
06:13 There comes a certain point in your life where quality of life, if you've made a lot of money
06:18 like chip is matters more than maybe the amount of money you're making.
06:22 Now, when it comes to chip, he had not been recruiting at a high level.
06:25 Now to your point, had UCLA fired him, here's why they probably didn't want to fire him.
06:29 They would've had to pay him eight and a half million dollars.
06:31 And I think chip was trying to wait that out.
06:33 And it, you know, finally he's just like, I'm out.
06:35 Here's the other thing with UCLA.
06:37 They lost their D coordinator, not to a promotion, but to their cross town arrival for the same
06:42 fricking job.
06:43 So UCLA needs to get fired up.
06:45 They need to do something.
06:46 Now I want to chat about Deshaun Foster real quick.
06:50 This is a guy, he's a new head coach for those who don't know.
06:52 Great player.
06:53 UCLA UCLA hall of fame, seven year NFL vet, second team, all American in 2001.
06:57 I grew up watching this guy.
06:59 I'm a big fan of this guy.
07:00 I liked UCLA better than you see USC growing up as a kid.
07:04 Okay, but here's my issue with the Deshaun, because I'm not convinced that this is a great
07:09 hire and here's why he's never been anything but a running backs coach.
07:12 Never been a coordinator, obviously not been a head coach.
07:14 Again, I'm a big fan of him and I'm rooting for him, but I can't help but wonder if this
07:20 is more of a homegrown hire than it is a good hire.
07:23 What do you think?
07:24 I agree with you.
07:25 It's a homegrown hire, right?
07:26 Like I, I don't want to use the word lazy because it's easy to use the word lazy.
07:33 This is as lazy as you can get.
07:35 Now, the question becomes, we were just got done talking about chip and recruiting.
07:41 How much can a guy that's from there, a guy that played there, how can he revamp a booster
07:47 base that does have some money?
07:50 Can he get some things rolling in recruiting?
07:52 Because look, we try to oversimplify football or over complicate football, excuse me, so
07:58 much inside zone is inside zone.
08:02 When the football is running the football, if you have the personnel, ask Michigan what
08:05 they did.
08:06 They ran inside zone 37 times in the national championship game.
08:10 Want to know how they won?
08:11 They had better players along the offensive line.
08:13 That's how they won.
08:15 But I agree with you on the big part.
08:18 We don't know how he's structured, structures and offense.
08:21 We don't know how he structures defense.
08:23 What does he do in a critical third down?
08:25 Like what if they are playing their crosstown rival USC and it's third and one or third
08:30 and two or you got to go for it on fourth down.
08:33 We don't know what he's going to do and he's going to have to learn on the job.
08:36 Now he's been around football.
08:39 He has been around a lot of big time situations.
08:41 Obviously as a Saints fan personally, I remember him at Carolina.
08:45 The first run he had was 67 yards for a touchdown.
08:48 He was a great player, but that doesn't, if anybody else in the country would have gone
08:53 and hired a position coach to be their head coach, what would we be doing?
08:57 We would be putting down on that hire and rightfully so.
09:01 Now there's a lot of things that he has to fix.
09:05 None bigger than recruiting in my opinion because I do think that he has a talent base
09:09 that he can go and implement.
09:11 I just worry about a program and Adam, here's the biggest thing.
09:15 I always watch hard knocks like the NFL and I remember Jeff Fisher when they left St.
09:21 Louis and went to LA and how big of a transition that was.
09:25 A first time head coach going into the Big Ten is a massive transition.
09:29 If he doesn't know what he's doing on the field and it's going to be learning by experience
09:34 because he's a first time head coach, what about going into the Big Ten?
09:38 Hey, when do you leave for, I don't know their schedule off the top of my head, but if you
09:42 go to the Midwest, do I leave on a Wednesday?
09:45 Do I leave on a Thursday?
09:47 Where do I structure practices if I want to practice on a Friday?
09:51 There are so many different things that he does not have experience in.
09:54 Like you mentioned, he's never called plays.
09:56 I worry for this, but if you're going to make a move like this, in my opinion, you've got
10:04 to give him a minimum of four years.
10:07 You can't just let him come in here, expect him in one, two, three years to really change
10:14 things.
10:15 I will say one thing.
10:16 Now, my co-host completely disagrees with me, Joe DeLeon.
10:21 I still think they've got talent on this roster now.
10:23 They got some pieces along the offense and defensive line.
10:27 They got a good running back core.
10:29 I think they got some good tackle play.
10:31 When I went and watched them this week, I'm like, "Well, these guys are coming back.
10:36 They didn't hit the portal.
10:37 Oh, wait, he's got some decent wide receiver play."
10:41 I wouldn't be shocked though if they upset some teams that they're not supposed to because
10:46 they have two chips credit.
10:48 They have developed at a high level, but man, it's going to be so hard going into the Big
10:52 Ten and a really brutal schedule going into that new conference.
10:56 I agree with you.
10:58 Like I said, UCLA is not a bad job.
10:59 This is a team that when I started watching football when I was seven, eight, nine years
11:03 old, they were in the Rose Bowl every year.
11:05 They seemingly played frickin' Wisconsin every year in their bowl game for umpteen years
11:08 when I was a kid.
11:09 Then they even played one year in the Sun Bowl on top of two or three years in the Rose
11:13 Bowl.
11:14 I grew up watching UCLA being a good program.
11:18 For me, there's talent in California.
11:20 Like I mentioned, you got less teams that you're directly competing for these recruits
11:24 now because you're seen as a Big Ten team, which is a higher level tier, the power two,
11:28 so to speak, Big Ten SEC.
11:30 I don't think it's a bad job.
11:31 I think it's actually still a pretty good job.
11:33 I think there's talent coming back to your point.
11:37 When it comes to Chip, it's almost like he was a little bit burnt out and looking for
11:41 less and sometimes less can be more.
11:43 In his case, if he goes to Ohio State and they set the world on fire, win a national
11:47 championship, that man's going to be happy and I'll be happy for him.
11:51 When you look at DeSean, again, I'm rooting for him, but I think back to, and Scott Frost,
11:56 a Husker brother of mine.
11:58 I got nothing but love for him.
11:59 I look forward to watching him coach again one day, but this is a man who took a team
12:02 who didn't win a game, went six and seven, and then went undefeated, and then was the
12:07 home run higher at Nebraska, but there was such a gargantuan learning curve for him,
12:11 he struggled.
12:12 You look at Deion.
12:13 Now, Deion's one of one, so I don't know if this is apples to apples.
12:16 Maybe it's not even apples to oranges, watermelons to grapes, because he truly is one of one.
12:21 It's all still fruit, though.
12:22 That man's going to out-talent a lot of teams, but my question's always been, can he make
12:26 the in-game adjustments?
12:27 Can he make the right clock management moves at the right time?
12:31 Andy Reid, as he is one of the greatest of all time to coach in the NFL, I remember when
12:35 he was in Philly, five straight NFC title games and they did not have success in them,
12:40 and he was questioned for his clock management of all things at that point in time.
12:45 I think there's just going to be a learning curve for Deion.
12:47 I think he's going to revitalize people.
12:48 I think he will recruit well.
12:50 I think he's going to, like you said, pull off some upsets.
12:52 I'm curious about the learning curve.
12:54 How big and how fast and how long does that take?
12:57 Well, you know, Adam, to your point, he might win some games he's not supposed to.
13:00 He's going to lose games he's not supposed to lose to, too.
13:05 To your point, like Scott Frost, how many of those Nebraska games over the years were
13:09 one-score games?
13:10 A lot.
13:11 How many of those are based off of, okay, yes, you had the experience at UCF, but when
13:18 you're facing off against Ohio State, you're facing off against a team that you might even
13:22 be as equally as talented, but Pat Narduzzi has been a head coach for 17,000 years because
13:28 his Social Security number is one.
13:30 That's how old he is.
13:31 He's had the experience of being in that situation.
13:36 To your point on Chip, I will say this.
13:39 I think that we have seen Chip, though, in a lot of situations where when the going got
13:45 tough, he didn't bite down on his mouthpiece and try to push forward.
13:48 I understand he got fired in Philadelphia, the way that he did in San Fran.
13:53 That's the NFL.
13:55 But I've seen you at Oregon, okay, when you couldn't get over that hump in the national
13:58 championship game, you left.
14:00 You said, "Look, I just can't recruit enough here.
14:02 I can't do it," whatever.
14:04 You go to UCLA, you have the same issue.
14:06 At some point, you better look in the mirror because it's you.
14:10 For an example, I look at myself in the mirror every day, Adam, and say, "Hey, I have nice
14:15 traps, whatever, but I don't have a six-pack."
14:18 Well, maybe the Twinkie that I had for breakfast is the reason why I don't have a six-pack.
14:22 Maybe sometimes you need to go look in the mirror and say to yourself, "This falls on
14:26 me."
14:27 Now, I will say this, and we'll get to this.
14:29 Man, it is one of the best coaching moves, though.
14:33 From paper to paper, if you take out all the stuff from UCLA, if Chip Kelly was just going
14:38 to be the OC, and now he's going to just be the OC, I don't think that there has been
14:43 a better offensive coordinator hire in college football like this maybe in the last five
14:49 years.
14:50 It is the biggest coaching move, I think, since I've been covering college sports, at
14:57 least to me.
14:59 You go from Chip Kelly to DeSean Foster, I'm rooting for him, like you said, but man, what
15:04 a coaching move.
15:06 I think probably the biggest head coaching move that we've seen is probably Colorado
15:11 hiring Deion because actually people care about Colorado football for a change.
15:15 Whether he wins anymore or not, people actually give a crap, which you can't say that since
15:20 the late '90s, mid '90s, maybe '94.
15:22 I know they were in some big 12-pound leagues.
15:23 Cornell Stewart, baby.
15:24 Yeah, in the early 2000s, good old Slash and the Steelers.
15:27 Let's talk about, real quick, so Chip Kelly, he may be, non-head coaching-wise, the biggest
15:34 hire that's happened in the past decade as far as coordinators, offense, defense.
15:38 Nebraska fans would argue Tony White.
15:40 By the way, we are all very glad he didn't go to be the head coach at UCLA.
15:44 I was very happy about that.
15:46 Let's go back to Ohio State, though, because you've got Ryan Day, a guy who's got an entire
15:50 roster that is motivated, much like Michigan was this time last year.
15:55 Okay, they got a lot of guys coming back.
15:57 You've got Chip Kelly, probably the best offensive coordinator in the country, certainly in the
16:01 conversation, if not at the top of it.
16:03 Then you bring in Will Howard, a guy who's going to give an element, a dynamic element
16:09 with his legs, which you've not had there for a while.
16:12 You've got Avery Turner's on defense, one of the best defenses in the country.
16:15 You got Chip Kelly as the OC.
16:16 You got a motivated, experienced Ryan Day.
16:19 You got a loaded, talented roster.
16:21 Meke Ibuka coming back.
16:22 You got Trayvon Henderson.
16:24 I always want to say KV on Henderson.
16:26 I had to write it down.
16:27 Trayvon Henderson coming back.
16:28 Like you mentioned, the best running back in the SEC out of Ole Miss, for some reason,
16:32 transfers to Ohio State.
16:33 Now you've got the most loaded backfield in the country, Quin Sean Jenkins.
16:37 Then you got a Meke Ibuka coming back.
16:39 Ohio State, to me, is clearly the team to beat in the Big Ten.
16:42 Like I said, I got them number two to Georgia right now, but I might swap them eventually
16:47 in this offseason.
16:48 What are your thoughts?
16:49 Well, and they added Caleb Downs, okay?
16:54 And then you have a college head coach, Kirby, tweeting out the link to their collective
16:59 when he commits to Ohio State.
17:01 It's national title game or bust.
17:03 Either you win or lose that one.
17:05 Look, it's so hard to win a national championship, and with a new 12-team playoff, there's no
17:10 telling what the structure and how teams are going to react to all of this.
17:14 Anything can happen in a playoff setting.
17:16 We know that from just watching sports in general.
17:19 You cannot bring in that type of talent, okay, and say to yourself that you can't be there.
17:25 I give an example because I'm an LSU guy.
17:28 LSU baseball last year went and got four, okay, first-round picks in the transfer portal.
17:33 And when they weren't going to the national title game and everybody thought that they
17:36 weren't, everybody's like, "Head coach failed.
17:39 He failed."
17:40 Well, it's the same thing here.
17:41 You cannot go into the portal, like what A&M did in recruiting a couple years ago and why
17:46 Jimbo ultimately failed at A&M, and the new Ohio State AD, Ross Buerk was the one that
17:53 fired him, ironically enough.
17:55 You cannot have this type of talent and not be there.
18:00 It's like my son's big with Spider-Man.
18:03 I always love using the saying, "With great power comes great responsibility.
18:08 With high recruiting classes comes high expectations."
18:13 If you're not there at the end, it's a failure because they have arguably the best wide receiver
18:18 core in the country.
18:19 They do have the best running back core in the country.
18:23 They bring back a lot of pieces on defense.
18:25 You have the best, arguably, two of the best play callers in the country with Chip Kelly
18:30 and Ryan Day, which by the way, I'm old enough to remember when Ryan Day had Georgia, the
18:36 national champion, on the ropes there at the end to win a game in a playoff, because they
18:42 would have killed TCU.
18:43 Basically, they kick that field goal, they make it, they're going to win a national title.
18:48 They're there.
18:49 I think too, Adam, the biggest thing is Ryan Day has so much pressure on him right now
18:57 to be successful, more than anybody in the country because of what they did in the portal.
19:03 I just don't know when you go paper for paper, talent for talent, across the board with Ohio
19:09 State, I think that Georgia might be the only team that equals them.
19:13 I don't see anybody else right now in February on Valentine's Day that you can say is better
19:20 than them.
19:21 Name them, because you're not going to be able to find it.
19:24 They've done better with the offensive line, but there is one thing that I caution.
19:28 Will Howard did have struggles at Kansas State.
19:32 He was turnover prone.
19:33 There was a reason why he got pushed out there at the end, but you got Julian saying, you
19:38 got Aaron Nolan.
19:39 What does Devin Brown do?
19:41 They're so deep at so many positions that I'm with you.
19:45 I don't know if I, Adam, I'm going to tell you, we'll probably do our rankings are way
19:49 too early rankings in March.
19:52 I think I'm going to have them at one because there's just so much talent there.
19:56 I can't ignore it.
19:57 Georgia.
19:58 And there's a lot of question marks about Ryan Day because he took over the program
20:02 from urban and it was, he was, he was born on third base in some people's eyes.
20:07 I get all of that.
20:09 Georgia not only has the talent, they got the one head coach in the country that people
20:12 probably think is the best head coach in the country.
20:14 Now that Nick Saban is in the booth on game day.
20:17 It's funny you brought up Will Howard.
20:19 Cause I was going to mention this.
20:20 I don't want to say he got pushed out of Kansas state, but freshman quarterback, Avery Johnson
20:25 and his beautiful locks.
20:27 There's a reason Will Howard entered the transfer portal.
20:29 Now what's funny is the guy before him, a former Nebraska guy who transferred into Ohio
20:33 state, Adrian Martinez got pushed out by Will Howard when Adrian got hurt and will came
20:38 in and played.
20:39 Well, it's just kind of the world that we live in.
20:41 Last couple of topics I want to talk about.
20:43 So in fairness to chip Kelly, and I've talked about this a million times on my other shows,
20:47 especially on the ticket, being a head coach in college football, it's crazy.
20:53 There's 17 programs where you and I were chatting before this that have hired GMs.
20:57 Now what's the GM job going to look like?
20:59 It's speculation at this moment in time.
21:01 To me, I expect it to be the NFL GM type role.
21:04 Like you got to manage the roster.
21:05 You got to manage money.
21:06 You got to manage the players that are coming and going because the head coach can't do
21:11 it all.
21:12 Or we're going to see more players or I'm sorry, more head coaches doing what we've
21:15 seen coaches do this off season.
21:17 Go from head coach in college to coordinators in the NFL, or in chip's case, head coach
21:22 in college to coordinator in college.
21:24 What are your thoughts?
21:28 I've been talking about this for about two years and it's fallen on deaf ears.
21:34 Okay.
21:35 Because I've seen, so let me give an example.
21:38 When Austin Thomas, who left Ole Miss and was the chief of staff there and left and
21:44 went somewhere else, obviously to LSU, you had a head coach going on Twitter and trolling.
21:52 You've also seen Texas just promote a general manager and paid him and he is the highest
21:56 paid general manager in the country because of what he's doing in NIL and recruiting.
22:01 Adam, coaches, I know that guys like Sarkisian, Kelly, Day, Kirby Smart, all are making so
22:10 much money.
22:11 They cannot, okay, do everything that they're supposed to do on a given day and still have
22:18 to worry about NIL, going and have lunch with boosters to raise funds and doing things for
22:25 specific kids and players.
22:28 It fractures locker rooms.
22:29 I've heard war stories, horrible stories about what happened in A&M.
22:34 Okay.
22:35 Because of contracts and these players are mad at this guy making this much money.
22:40 So many bad things.
22:42 What you said earlier, a general manager in college football is legitimately going to
22:48 be a lot like what it is in the NFL.
22:49 I talked to a front office guy in Texas today or this morning, really good friend of mine.
22:56 He goes, Blake, now that college football are bringing in general manager roles for
23:01 roster, NIL, stuff like that, well, you know, this is a full-time job for me in the NFL.
23:09 It's actually going to be a little bit easier for me if I want to get one of these college
23:12 general manager roles.
23:14 So now that you see some head coaches moving, I don't know if you don't see NFL front office
23:18 guys.
23:19 I mean, you can just pull off, okay, a couple of days ago, NFL guys moving down because
23:24 look man, NFL is one thing, but college football is completely different.
23:31 I do think you're going to see a whole lot of more teams.
23:33 I know Nebraska did it, LSU did it, Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia, Michigan.
23:38 You're just going to see so many more of that because a head coach just cannot have those
23:42 conversations on a day in, day out basis.
23:45 And they don't want to.
23:46 They don't want to have money conversations.
23:48 They want to recruit, talk football, that's what they want to do.
23:54 These coaches are not businessmen.
23:56 And you're having businessmen that are having to be hired to enact these collectives and
24:00 NIL and things like that.
24:02 So I do think it's interesting and I do think that we're going to see more teams do this.
24:07 If we don't see, I do think in five years, Adam, I think that every Power Five program
24:13 in the country is going to have some form of chief of staff or general manager because
24:16 college coaches can't do it.
24:18 And look, what are we talking about?
24:19 A guy making $100,000 a year?
24:21 If you make the playoff, you're going to get close to $100 million with a billion dollar
24:26 TD playoff revenue.
24:28 You mean to tell me that it's not worth spending $100,000 for a guy to be a GM?
24:32 Get out of here with that.
24:34 So they're going to spend that money because mainly their coaches want them and they need
24:39 to.
24:40 I agree.
24:41 I think it's not even going to be optional like a year from now.
24:44 I think a year from now it's going to be like mandatory in every head college football coach's
24:48 eyes, especially a Power Five coach.
24:50 All right, man, we got about a minute left and I want to get your thoughts.
24:53 Now there's six quarterbacks that stand out to me in this draft.
24:56 You got JJ McCarthy, Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr.
24:59 The top three that stand out to me are Caleb Williams, Drake May, and Jaden Daniels.
25:03 Let me ask you specifically, how would you rank those top three?
25:07 Do you have a different top three and where do you see Jaden Daniels being drafted?
25:11 I assume somewhere in the first round, but where do you see him landing?
25:15 Your fans are going to absolutely rip me alive for this because they're going to say I'm
25:19 biased.
25:20 I'm taking Jaden Daniels number one.
25:23 Let me tell you why I take Jaden Daniels number one, because I know the leadership that I'm
25:27 getting with him.
25:28 And then this week I saw Caleb Williams and look, I'm not this kind of guy.
25:33 I am not a fan of painting nails and wearing a dress.
25:37 I want my quarterback to be a quarterback.
25:39 And we kind of, even myself, we kind of got into it with Caleb Williams during this fingernail
25:45 discussion last year on social media.
25:48 And I'm like, look, man, there's got to be a level of decorum and a maturity that you
25:54 have to show.
25:55 And he has not shown it to me.
25:57 Now you stop with the fingernails.
25:58 I know it was your mom's business.
26:00 I don't care if you paint your fingernails.
26:02 I live my entire college life with a college catcher and he had pink fingernails so that
26:07 pitchers could see when he's calling pitches, the fingernail things don't bother me.
26:11 It's the message that you have it on there.
26:13 Then you this past week, you're, you're wearing a dress.
26:17 Look, all I'm saying is I've seen Jane Daniels in the sec do what he's done.
26:24 Look what he did to Alabama.
26:25 Look what he did to Georgia in the first half when they won a national title.
26:29 People forget that he had 300 total yards and a half on the national champion.
26:33 And we all had the question, well, if Jane Daniels can do it, can CJ Stroud do it against
26:38 Georgia?
26:39 I think that he dynamic wise, he is the most dynamic player in this draft, mainly for the
26:44 way that he throws the football and the way that he runs.
26:48 I, Adam, I fully believe this.
26:50 When I say this, I think he's a more polished Lamar Jackson specifically throwing the football.
26:55 That's how I see it.
26:56 Now, Caleb Williams for me, okay, he's talented.
27:00 I just don't know the maturity I get with him.
27:04 The only other one would be Drake May.
27:06 And to be honest with you, it's one a for me with Drake May.
27:09 I'm that high on him.
27:11 If you took Drake May, don't tell LSU fans.
27:14 I said this over Jane Daniels, I wouldn't be too mad, you know, but I just, I've seen
27:19 him not win those big games in college football.
27:23 Also so Peyton Manning not win them too.
27:25 So, okay.
27:26 Fair point.
27:27 So I just, if it's Drake May one, then Jane Daniels two, it doesn't bother me.
27:32 I just, I'm so far out on Caleb Williams that I'm going to get ridiculed for it, but that's
27:37 just how I see it.
27:38 Dude, you're not going to get, well, you might get rid of cool, but I love honesty.
27:42 Okay.
27:43 Anybody who knows me knows that we're going over time here.
27:46 Lindsay can edit however she sees fit.
27:47 I think it's good stuff to me.
27:49 There's a clear one, two, three.
27:51 Now how you order those three guys could vary from person to person.
27:54 It's a Drake May, Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels.
27:56 Now Caleb is as talented as any quarterback to come out in recent memory.
28:01 Jaden's probably more polished.
28:03 Drake is the most under the radar quarterback, probably because he played in an ACC school,
28:07 albeit North Carolina, more of a basketball program than a football program, at least
28:11 as far as how it's known when it comes to Caleb Williams, I, I'm not going to get into
28:19 the politics with you agree with you.
28:21 Don't agree.
28:22 Here's what I'm going to say.
28:23 I'm going to say two names, polarizing names that were not in the NFL much longer after
28:28 they became really polarizing.
28:30 Tim Tebow.
28:31 Don't care if you agree with his religion or not.
28:33 Colin Kaepernick.
28:34 Don't care if you agree with the bending, taking the knee or not.
28:38 Those guys, NFL locker rooms don't want that in their locker room.
28:43 That is a part of the decision-making process.
28:45 It's not discrimination.
28:47 It is what it is.
28:48 If you're a extremely polarizing guy, like on an above normal level, it's going to be
28:54 accounted for in the draft process.
28:56 And that may affect Caleb Williams.
28:58 It may not, but I guarantee it's going to be talked about by every single team that's
29:03 evaluating him.
29:04 No doubt.
29:05 And if you're that polarizing to your point, you better be LeBron James athletic.
29:09 For sure.
29:10 If you're that polarizing, if you're that good, like, so for example, Joe Burrow, I
29:15 love this because Joe was like, he had an iPhone 11, you know, like, you know, the new
29:19 iPhones don't have like the little, uh, remember when we were old and then you had the little
29:24 thing where you touch in the middle of the little home screen button.
29:27 I do.
29:28 Yep.
29:29 I'm like, bro, I tell him one day, I'm like, bro, you know, they have iPhones now where
29:32 they don't have a home screen button.
29:33 He goes, literally, I text my girlfriend, my mom, my dad, my brother.
29:37 I really don't care.
29:39 But he was polarizing.
29:40 I like guys, you got to have that type talent talent, Adam, because if you can't lead a
29:46 locker room, you're not going to succeed.
29:48 So that's why I'm out on him.
29:51 Like you said, politics aside, that's why I'm out on him.
29:54 Hey, man, I appreciate it.
29:56 I think this was a great conversation.
29:58 Ladies and gentlemen, that's been Blake Rufino.
30:00 Check him out on his show.
30:02 Rufino and Joe also a Y S sports.
30:05 This has been the big 10 show.
30:06 I'm Adam Carriker.
30:07 We'll see you next time.
30:08 Thanks for tuning in.
30:09 Bye.
30:10 Bye.
30:11 Bye.
30:12 Bye.
