00:00 Good afternoon, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspaper. It's lovely
00:06 to speak to Jack Courtier, who is heading to Chichester this Christmas to appear in
00:11 the Three Billy Goats graph in the Minerva. Now the really significant thing, Jack, freshly
00:16 graduated from GSA in Guildford, this is your professional debut. How does that feel? Is
00:21 that nerve-wracking? Is that exciting? What is it?
00:26 Definitely more exciting than anything. There were definitely nerves there, but when I met
00:30 everyone and stepped into the room at the cast and creative team, I think the nerves
00:34 quite quickly went away when I realised it was going to be a really exciting process
00:37 and a really enjoyable one as well.
00:40 So what makes this show a good one to start, given that debut is so precious, isn't it?
00:45 And this is your debut. Why this one?
00:48 I think it's just a bit of everything. I think it's super energetic and as much as it's kind
00:54 of a nice family wholesome show, physically as an actor, it's not easy. It's physically
01:01 and vocally demanding and we're on stage and it takes a lot of focus and concentration.
01:06 So it's a really nice first job to have because I feel very content as an actor when I'm doing
01:12 it and when I finish it, I really feel like I've done something. I'm really, as a cast,
01:16 have completed something as well as entertained and helped kids experience theatre maybe for
01:21 the first time, which is also a really nice fulfilling feeling.
01:24 Because this is aimed at three to seven, isn't it?
01:26 Yeah, yeah.
01:27 And it comes, you were saying, with a really lovely message. What's it all about? Obviously
01:33 it's fun, but there is a moral to that.
01:35 There is a message within the three goats always striving to find the grass that's green
01:41 on the other side. It kind of teaches that sometimes things may look a certain way and
01:46 people may, you know, it may look that people have everything and their lives are together
01:50 and stuff like that. But maybe when you actually pull back the curtain, everyone has things
01:55 going on or, you know, not everything is as it seems. And we should always remain grateful
02:00 for what we have and for those around us.
02:02 Yeah. And a lovely way to lead into Christmas when it goes over Christmas into the new year.
02:06 Exactly, yeah. It goes over Christmas into the new year and we're all dressed in lovely
02:10 Christmas-esque sweaters, hats and mittens. So it's really Christmassy actually.
02:17 And presumably you're going to be hoping that this is a springboard for other things, isn't
02:20 it? Will you be invited along to see you in the role?
02:24 Yes, yes, I do. You never know who's there or who's bringing their kids. So, yeah, I'm
02:31 excited for people to see it. And who knows, I hope that people can enjoy it and enjoy
02:35 my performance and maybe it will lead to some other things.
02:38 Fantastic. Well, good luck in that debut.
02:40 Thank you.
02:41 All the very best.
02:42 I appreciate it.
02:43 Thank you, Jack. Really, really good to speak to you.
02:47 Thank you very much.
