00:07 That way you can continue to get the content Dr. Rob and I produce throughout the rest
00:12 of the year and of course right on into 2024.
00:14 Dr. Rob, I was nice today.
00:16 I went with the purple.
00:17 I didn't wear the black and gold.
00:19 I was nice that way.
00:21 We got somebody paying the bill.
00:23 That's right.
00:24 Let's just be honest.
00:25 We're wearing the Centris polos, that's for sure.
00:27 Nebraska has been plagued all season by turnovers.
00:30 Iowa has done a great job forcing turnovers all season.
00:34 Where Nebraska lost the game was in the final 23 seconds of the game.
00:38 On a turnover.
00:39 On a turnover.
00:40 So, kind of the thing that I want people to key in here.
00:42 So what can end up happening is you've got a zone blitz on this play, which is essentially
00:47 kind of the term that was given to this where you bring an extra linebacker or defensive
00:52 back on a blitz, but then you drop a defensive lineman into coverage to take their place.
00:59 In select circumstances it works very well, but you need a little bit of luck on the defensive
01:06 side as well because it's not like defensive linemen are trained to cover passes per se.
01:11 So, the other thing that's a little bit interesting here that I want people to kind of pay attention
01:16 to is the fact that Iowa traditionally runs a 4-3 defense, but they're using it in this
01:23 nickel situation, almost a dime situation, like a 3-3-5.
01:28 You've got three down linemen right there.
01:31 My pen's getting lost in the fact that Iowa's color is yellow.
01:35 You've got another defensive lineman here who's actually lining up and acting like a
01:41 linebacker on this play right here.
01:44 Linebacker, linebacker.
01:45 Here's your 3-3, and then 1-2-3-4-5.
01:50 So it's essentially, it's basically a 3-3-5 defense is what they're lining up in here.
01:57 Now you've got a zone blitz.
01:59 What ends up happening, Iowa ends up blitzing here, they blitz here, and then to replace
02:05 those guys, the defensive end actually drops back here.
02:09 Now from the quarterback's standpoint, the last thing a quarterback is thinking is that
02:15 one of the defensive linemen is going to be dropping into coverage, especially when you've
02:20 got this look like a 4-3 look.
02:23 He's expecting this guy to go as far as his brain is conditioned, is that he's going to
02:28 have four down linemen rushing.
02:31 He's got the two blitzers which he sees coming.
02:35 And so, and again I understand this is kind of conceptually a hard thing for fans to maybe
02:40 understand if you haven't played the position of quarterback, and it's even tough for me
02:46 to wrap my head around.
02:48 The quarterbacks I have talked to about this essentially have said their brain does not
02:53 register that this guy is dropped and is sitting right here, despite the fact that you have
03:01 a defensive lineman sitting right here on the play.
03:06 Their brain is going to say the tight end is going to come up, going to come across.
03:11 And be wide open.
03:12 In their mind, it's good that the guy is going to be wide open because surely this guy is
03:16 blitzing too.
03:18 That's where if you run it well and the opponent is not expecting it.
03:23 And Herkut takes a step and then drops back.
03:25 He concealed himself.
03:26 He does.
03:27 Yeah, you get the little delay right there.
03:30 He is right in front of the official, which is my assumption is that's totally by design.
03:35 You see him come across the middle.
03:37 He's just sitting right there.
03:39 It totally looks like Purdy is playing catch with 49.
03:45 The fact of the matter is his brain just isn't registering that guy is even sitting there.
03:50 Of course, that interception set up a long run by Iowa, which then kicked a field goal
03:55 with no time to go in the game to win 13-10.
