00:00 Head coach Dan Campbell is not panicking after his team's Thanksgiving Day loss to the Green Bay Packers.
00:05 Here today to break down some of his comments is SIL Lions' John Mackram.
00:10 John, give me your thoughts on what Campbell had to say as it relates to the Lions' loss to the Packers.
00:15 Yeah, Cameron, look, the job of a head coach is to steady the waters when things get turbulent.
00:21 And for the Detroit Lions, they just haven't really played that well over the course of the last month.
00:26 But you also have to recognize, too, the Lions, based on the fact that they play annually on Thanksgiving,
00:32 end up playing three games in 11 days.
00:34 That's just not really conducive to playing your best brand of football.
00:38 Fatigue sets in mentally, physically, and it's no excuse, but you look at that Lions team against the Packers,
00:44 it didn't look like the same football team that battles and is gritty as they were against the Bears.
00:50 And that contest, obviously, is going to take a toll, a physical battle, when you play the Chicago Bears.
00:55 So coming into the Packers game, I thought the Lions would play better, obviously,
01:00 but in the end, Dan Campbell, at this point in time, is coaching an 8-3 football team,
01:06 realizing that all the goals that they are trying to accomplish are still ahead of them.
01:11 They can accomplish a lot of things.
01:13 And so I think that any opportunity that Dan Campbell has to improve the football team,
01:18 to look at and review and watch what's going on, it helps the football team moving forward.
01:23 This football team needs to peak in December.
01:26 Now, I know it doesn't look like that, but I think the opportunity to rest over the next 10 days,
01:31 opportunity to clean up some things, review some film, put players in better positions,
01:35 maybe shuffle some things on the offense and defense, Dan Campbell's job is to always take a bigger picture view,
01:42 especially when he's talking to the media.
01:44 He's not going to throw his team under the bus.
01:46 Obviously, clearly, everybody knows the team has to play better, limit the turnovers, force more turnovers on defense.
01:53 But for Dan Campbell, things are looking good.
01:55 Cameron, reminder, this is an 8-3 football team that plays well and understands how to win.
02:01 Any team, and a lot of teams, often face bumps in the road, but it's how you come back and respond.
02:08 The next game against the Saints on the road is going to be very telling.
02:11 You're going to have extra time to coach and watch, and you're going to have to have your football team ready.
02:16 If some of the issues remain, then it will be time to worry.
02:20 But right now, I'm thankful the Detroit Lions are 8-3, and they have an opportunity to win the division,
02:25 win some playoff games, and really excite this fan base.
02:28 So yeah, it was not the best game against the Packers, but for Dan Campbell, he's not panicking,
02:33 because this next stretch of games, the Lions have opportunities to secure some wins.
02:37 They're 8-3. It's only one loss.
02:40 Dan Campbell has some work to do, but I do think the Lions will get back on track.
02:44 John, thanks for all the insight.
