Detroit Lions left guard Jonah Jackson signs free agent contract with Los Angeles Rams.
Transcript
00:00 John Jonah Jackson is a part of the Lions to join the L. A. Rams. What do
00:04 you make of that loss and how significant of a loss it is for the
00:07 Lions? Yeah, Vito, Jonah Jackson earned a massive contract and you look at the
00:13 Detroit Lions. This is going to be something that I expect to happen over
00:17 the course of the next couple of seasons. A lot of their players just
00:20 based on their development, their skill level are going to be coveted by other
00:24 teams and it was quite expected that Jonah Jackson based on the market, the
00:28 burgeoning market for offensive linemen. You look at the landscape and teams are
00:33 investing and they recognize just how important it is to have a stout
00:37 offensive line and talented individuals to not only protect the quarterback but
00:42 to be stout in the run game. You look at NFL offenses and those are the most
00:47 successful have offensive lines that can open up holes and block for the
00:51 quarterback and Jonah Jackson earned a three year contract with the Los Angeles
00:56 Rams for $51 million. A reunion of sorts for Jackson and Rams quarterback
01:01 Matthew Stafford. I expect Jonah Jackson to really be successful now in Detroit
01:06 over the last couple of years battled a couple of injuries. I just think that
01:11 when you look at that level of investment, you're looking at General
01:15 Manager Brad Holmes and you know there's going to be monies that are
01:18 going to need to be allocated for Amon Ross ST Brown, Penne Sewell and Jared
01:22 Goff. So unfortunately as the old adage goes, it was a numbers game and I think
01:28 the lines recognize that there are players in in waiting in development
01:32 and at the same time this is a draft class in 2024 that has the potential of
01:38 having a lot of key players that you can add really on day one or later on in
01:43 the draft. So it's going to be an area of need. Now the left guard position is
01:48 now open as Jonah Jackson has departed, but he definitely earned the three year
01:53 contract, some security and an opportunity to go out west and protect
01:59 Matthew Stafford in their endeavors now moving forward. But for the Detroit
02:02 Lions, the offensive line should be okay and you expect Brad Holmes will plug in
02:07 and find talent at that position. John, they probably inside.
