Examining the main takeaways from the Detroit Lions 29-22 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Transcript
00:00 On Thursday, the Detroit Lions lost at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.
00:03 Here today to give some key takeaways from the game is SIL Lions, John
00:07 Mackroom, John, give me your thoughts and takeaways from the Lions Thanksgiving
00:11 day loss to the Green Bay Packers.
00:13 Yeah, Cameron, real interesting.
00:16 Obviously not the performance that the Detroit Lions wanted coming into the
00:20 game, they had lost six consecutive games on Thanksgiving.
00:23 I think they wanted to have a better showing, especially in the division,
00:27 having had success over the past two years against the Packers, Bears and Vikings.
00:31 But look, having played three games in 11 days, finally caught up to the Detroit
00:36 Lions, it was not a great sign, Cameron, when the first play of the game is a
00:41 deep 53 yard bomb from Jordan Love.
00:43 And I think it set the tone real early.
00:45 They, the Packers were able to march down the field and score that early touchdown.
00:49 The Lions did have a nice reply, but unfortunately Cameron, the topic and the
00:54 real issue that took place throughout this game and something that's going to
00:57 be talked about and examined were the turnovers, three more fumbles by Jared
01:01 Goff, and it put the Lions in a bad spot, obviously early in the game when
01:06 Rashawn Gary knocks the football loose from Jared Goff and it's recovered for a
01:10 touchdown.
01:10 So whenever turnovers take place, it's never a good time, but when they
01:14 directly result in touchdowns, it's going to put you behind.
01:18 And Dan Campbell didn't put the team in a good spot going for it with that fake
01:22 punt really deep in the Lions own zone.
01:25 It allowed the Packers to get points.
01:28 So you look at the whole game in totality from the roster to the coaching.
01:32 I just think the Lions really didn't come prepared to win.
01:35 And it showed the Packers were the hungrier team, the faster team.
01:39 And you got a chance to see a little bit that Jordan Love has improved.
01:43 Many people were wondering what the Packers were going to look like these next
01:47 couple of years with Aaron Rogers, no longer there.
01:49 And while Jordan Love did take a little bit of time to get going, it looks like
01:54 he's going to be a formidable signal caller for the future and for the Lions.
01:58 I think it's a wake-up call.
01:59 Quite frankly, Cameron, you know, you can't play at that level and win games.
02:03 So moving forward, I think the rest will be much needed, but on Thanksgiving, the
02:08 Lions didn't do enough to win and ended up being 29-22 losers.
02:12 They're seven straight loss on Thanksgiving.
02:15 A sloppy game by the Detroit Lions.
02:17 John, thanks for all the insight.
