00:00 I'll bet a lot of you folks don't believe that.
00:02 About a wish coming true?"
00:04 Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at the greatest moments where Disney characters
00:09 wished for something.
00:10 "You know, I was starting to think that wishing on stars was just for babies and crazy people."
00:19 Number 10.
00:20 Asha's wish on a star.
00:22 Wish.
00:23 "Last night I made a wish on a star.
00:26 Ah, and the star answered."
00:29 It's not every year Disney turns 100, so it seems appropriate they would give us the origin
00:34 story of the wishing star we've seen in so many of their properties.
00:38 17-year-old Asha comes to learn that King Magnifico, albeit praised for his ability
00:42 to grant wishes, is actually kind of a bad guy.
00:46 "They deserve more than me."
00:48 "I decide what everyone deserves."
00:50 He seems to pick and choose which wishes are granted, and is generally presented as the
00:54 villain of the movie.
00:56 Soon after learning this, Asha makes a wish upon a star, and is rewarded with the star
01:00 itself.
01:01 "I wish."
01:02 "Whoa, whoa!
01:03 What was that?"
01:11 While we don't want to spoil what's in store, we just couldn't leave out a film literally
01:15 all about wishes.
01:17 Number 9.
01:18 Snow White's wishing well.
01:19 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
01:21 You're probably not surprised to learn that Disney's whole wishing motif started with
01:25 its very first princess.
01:27 At the beginning of the movie, Snow White explains that the well she's standing in front
01:30 of is actually a wishing well, and tells the birds that, if they wish into the well and
01:35 hear it echo back, their wish will come true.
01:38 "I'm wishing."
01:39 "I'm wishing."
01:40 "For the one I love to find me."
01:46 "To find me."
01:48 "To dance."
01:49 What the birds could want besides maybe some seeds or worms, we're not really sure.
01:53 Either way, it's Snow White's wish for love to find her that we're meant to focus on.
01:57 And to her credit, it finds her astonishingly quickly.
02:00 "To find me, just find me today."
02:06 "Today."
02:07 "Oh!"
02:08 "Hello."
02:09 Later on, the evil queen passes off the poisonous apple as a magic wishing apple.
02:15 "A wishing apple?"
02:18 "Yes.
02:19 One bite.
02:20 And all your dreams will come true."
02:24 Number 8.
02:25 Rapunzel's Dream - Tangled
02:26 "Okay, I don't know where I am, and I need him to take me to see the lanterns because
02:31 I've been dreaming about them my entire life.
02:34 Find your humanity!
02:35 Haven't any of you ever had a dream?"
02:39 The word "wish" is swapped out for "dream" here, but potato, potato.
02:43 If Rapunzel asking Mother Gothel to see the lights wasn't enough, the "I've got a dream"
02:47 number certainly spells it out.
02:49 "I've got a dream."
02:50 "I've got a dream."
02:51 "I've got a dream."
02:52 "She's got a dream."
02:53 "I just want to see the floating lanterns gleam."
02:57 Rapunzel isn't the only one with a dream, and we'd like to take this time to give a
03:00 special shout out to the guy with the hook for a hand who just wants to play the piano.
03:04 Then, you know, Flynn's dream isn't so bad either.
03:07 "They mainly happen somewhere warm and sunny.
03:10 On an island that I owned and in rest it and alone.
03:15 Surrounded by enormous piles of money."
03:18 It's sweet watching Rapunzel chase what she wants, which she's probably never had the
03:22 opportunity to do before.
03:24 It's such a simple want, but we get why it means so much to her.
03:28 And Flynn definitely does too.
03:29 "Well, that's the good part, I guess.
03:32 You get to go find a new dream."
03:34 Number 7.
03:35 Miguel's ambition to be a musician - Coco
03:37 "I wish someone wanted to hear me.
03:43 Other than you."
03:45 If this kid is going to teach himself to play guitar in secret on an instrument he made
03:49 himself, again, in secret, then yeah, he deserves to play.
03:54 His love of music is obvious from the beginning, but a la Footloose, Miguel's family has banned
03:59 music.
04:00 Still, nothing's gonna stop him from living out his dreams, not even breaking and entering.
04:05 It ends up being for a bunch of dead people, sure, but Miguel does get to play in front
04:09 of a crowd.
04:10 And beggars can't be choosers.
04:11 "The sense that you're not making."
04:12 "The liberties you're taking."
04:13 "It's like a necessary thing."
04:15 "You are just too popular for."
04:22 By the end of the movie, his true wish of having people wanting to hear him play is
04:26 fulfilled.
04:27 And don't worry, we didn't forget Hector's wish.
04:30 How could we?
04:31 "I never should have left Santa Cecilia.
04:35 I wish I could apologize.
04:37 I wish I could tell her that her papa was trying to come home.
04:41 That he loved her so much."
04:43 Number 6.
04:44 Ian's longing to meet his dad.
04:46 Onward.
04:47 For anyone who had to grow up without a parent, this movie hits hard.
04:51 Ian's wish to have met his dad, especially on a day as significant as his 16th birthday,
04:56 is enough to get the waterworks going.
04:58 "Although I could clearly use some help.
05:01 I sure do wish I could spend the day with you sometime."
05:05 "I know."
05:06 "Well, there's so many things we could do.
05:08 I bet it'd be really fun."
05:09 He's clearly in need of the kind of advice only fathers can give.
05:13 And after running into a friend of his dad's, he seems more desperate than ever to know
05:17 what he was like.
05:18 "What was dad like when he was my age?
05:21 Was he always super confident?"
05:23 "Oh, no.
05:24 It took him a while to find out who he was."
05:27 "I wish I'd met him."
05:30 Well, Ian and his family come by the opportunity every grieving person has ever wanted.
05:35 The chance for one more day with their passed on loved one.
05:38 While things don't exactly go as planned, it turns out that Ian does sort of get his
05:42 wish in the end.
05:43 "I know you're stronger than that."
05:44 "My little brother has the magic mirror!"
05:51 Not only did he always have his older brother looking out for him, he also becomes as bold
05:55 and brave as his dad was.
05:58 Number 5.
05:59 Ariel's yearning to be part of the human world.
06:11 "The Little Mermaid."
06:19 She wants to be where the people are.
06:21 While we always wanted to be mermaids as kids, here's a mermaid who's coveting to be human.
06:26 Part of Your World is the movie's "I Want" song, and we get the wish pretty plainly stated
06:30 in its lyrics.
06:31 "Up where they stay all day in the sun, wandering free.
06:32 Wish I could be part of that world."
06:42 Even though Ariel's wish is only fulfilled conditionally at first.
06:46 You guys remember the whole "give up your voice to the evil sea witch" thing, right?
06:49 She does end up with her happily ever after by the movie's close.
06:56 Plus, not only does she get legs, she repairs her relationship with her father too.
07:04 Number 4.
07:05 Cinderella's secret, Cinderella.
07:07 Listen, if we were in Cindy's shoes, we'd be doing a whole lot of wishing ourselves.
07:11 Although no one really knows why we have dreams, Cinderella has a pretty charming answer to
07:16 the question.
07:17 "A dream is a wish your heart makes when you're fast asleep."
07:30 Upon waking in the morning, she mentions that she had a pleasant dream but doesn't tell
07:34 any of her animal companions what it was because,
07:37 "Cause if you tell a wish, it won't come true."
07:40 Still, we have a pretty good idea what it might have been.
07:43 Her message to keep faith that your dreams will come true is exactly the kind of inspiration
07:47 we seek when we're feeling down.
07:49 It's what kept her persevering through her own tribulations after all.
07:53 "If you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true."
08:09 Number 3.
08:10 Tiana wishes upon a star, the princess and the frog.
08:14 "And then, yeah, you can do anything you set your mind to."
08:17 Tiana is probably the most diligent, hard-working princess of them all.
08:21 Still, hard work means nothing without a little faith, and Tiana seems to embody this when
08:26 she wishes upon the evening star.
08:28 "I cannot believe I'm doing this.
08:32 Please, please, please."
08:36 That, or she just saw how quickly it worked for Lottie.
08:40 "Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please."
08:45 "Lottie, you can't just wish on a star and expect things to change."
08:50 "Ladies and gentlemen, his royal highness, Prince Naveen."
08:53 Although Lottie's wish doesn't come to pass, Tiana's certainly does, and with a handsome
08:58 bonus too if you know what we mean.
09:00 Wishing upon a star is one of the most classic ways to do the thing, but the princess and
09:04 the frog steps up the layered meaning with the whole Evangeline subplot.
09:08 It really does feel all the more magical that way.
09:11 Number 2.
09:12 Aladdin's final wish - Aladdin.
09:14 We can't make a list about wishes without including the king of wishes himself, Aladdin.
09:19 And yes, we dubbed him that on sheer volume alone.
09:22 Although Genie is clear about not being able to wish for more wishes, Aladdin's first
09:26 ask feels like a pretty great bargain.
09:36 Not only does he get the outfit and the transportation, he gets the whole show-stopping entrance.
09:46 Of course, his second wish sort of goes to waste, but the third?
09:50 Ah, the third.
09:51 After finding out Genie is a prisoner to his lamp, Aladdin promises to use his third wish
09:56 to set him free.
10:02 Even though it was going to cost him his love, Aladdin stays true to his word.
10:06 Getting to see Genie that happy is a reward all its own.
10:18 Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
10:21 Lilo's Prayer - Lilo and Stitch.
10:24 So she didn't get an angel, per se, but certainly a friend for life.
10:47 Jack's Desire for Something New - The Nightmare Before Christmas.
10:51 We've all wished for change at some point.
10:54 Moana's Calling - Moana.
11:02 You just can't fight that inner voice.

11:30 Geppetto's Plea for a Son - Pinocchio.
11:38 While we would normally not consider marionettes coming to life cute or sweet or anything of
11:42 the sort, we've got to make the exception for Pinocchio.
11:45 He's pretty adorable to begin with, and Geppetto just looks so happy to have him.
11:54 In the live-action film, it's shown that Geppetto has a deceased son, which adds a whole other
11:58 layer of heartbreak to the story.
12:00 The night after he finishes carving Pinocchio, Geppetto recites those famous words, wishing
12:05 for the wooden puppet to become a real boy.
12:18 Because he's given so much joy to others throughout his life as a toy maker, the Blue Fairy grants
12:23 this wish.
12:24 But only so long as Pinocchio proves himself worthy of life.
12:28 And in the happiest of endings, he does.
12:32 Alright, you get one wish.
12:37 What is it?
