00:00 Hello, it's Martin Dempster, the Scotsman Golf Correspondent here, coming to you from
00:08 the earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, where the first round of the DP
00:15 World Tour Championship, the season ending event on the DP World Tour has just finished.
00:23 Quite an interesting day, it's a tough golf course and in addition there was quite a
00:29 contestant win today. As a result of that, 500 par 67 was the best score, that was recorded
00:37 by three players. Dame Nicolai Hojard, a member of the winning European Rider Cup team in
00:44 Rome a few weeks back, and French duo Julien Guerrier and Mathieu Pavon. They were the
00:53 fair best of the players in the 50 man field. Rory McIlroy, he had quite a day, the newly
01:02 crowned Race to Dubai champion for a fifth time. In his first event since the Rider Cup,
01:08 he started nicely, he was 300 par through seven holes, then got a bit ragged on the
01:13 back nine. The last hole was quite something, he got lucky with his tee shot, he got lucky
01:19 with his second shot. Both could have ended up in the water, they didn't, walked off with
01:25 a five and in the end he was happy enough with a one under par 71, which is one less
01:32 than his playing partner and defending champion John Ram. Rory explained afterwards about
01:38 his decision to resign from the PGA Tour policy board and effectively it's just come down
01:43 to time. He's got a lot going on in his life, off the golf course as well as on it, and
01:49 he's decided that it's now time for him to step down from that role. Of the Scots, Bob
01:56 McIntyre was the best with a three under par 69, Grant Forrest and Connor Syme had one
02:04 over 73s, with Ewan Ferguson, Dubai based Ewan Ferguson in the middle of them with a
02:11 level par 72. To keep up to date with everything, with the event in Dubai and other golf matters,
