00:00 Welcome to the Kid Kudos People Show, where we check the pulse of Husker Nation brought
00:14 to you by DPS Concrete Construction.
00:17 Check them out at DPSConstruction.net.
00:19 Ladies and gentlemen, if you're still repping the big red, and/or if you're brainwashed,
00:25 I mean raising your children right like I am, then smash that like button.
00:30 The Mega Show is back, part one, right here, right now, with the two stars of the show.
00:35 What's your name?
00:36 Dakota.
00:37 And yours?
00:38 Buzzer.
00:39 Sorry, I forgot.
00:40 I couldn't remember, you know.
00:41 Who's older?
00:42 Remind me.
00:43 Me.
00:44 How much older?
00:45 Six minutes.
00:46 Six whole minutes.
00:47 Is she your boss for life, then?
00:48 Is that what that means?
00:49 No.
00:50 Yeah, trust me, she doesn't act like that either.
00:51 Alright, the Mega Show is back.
00:52 Dakota and Desi are going to help me break down the Wisconsin football game.
00:56 This was the most difficult game for me to predict who's going to win it the entire season.
01:01 I went back and forth and back and forth.
01:03 I'll disclose my prediction here in a few short minutes.
01:05 And Jacobs!
01:07 And then, the second half of the show, I will be joined by Nury Nwily.
01:11 I found out I've been saying his name wrong for so long.
01:13 In his words, Americans don't say it right.
01:16 So anyways, part two of the Mega Show will be shortly right after this.
01:20 Dakota, what is your favorite sport?
01:24 Baseball!
01:25 That took a lot of thought.
01:31 What's your favorite sport?
01:32 Gymnastics.
01:33 Gymnastics!
01:34 Alright.
01:35 And who's your favorite team?
01:37 Nebraska.
01:38 And who's your favorite team?
01:41 Nebraska.
01:42 So she almost said the Denver Broncos.
01:43 That's her favorite NFL team.
01:44 They're right below Nebraska.
01:45 Right, Dakota?
01:46 Alright, can we talk a little Nebraska football?
01:49 By the way, you are dressed immaculately today.
01:51 Alright, here we go.
01:53 So I found some interesting tweets that I'm going to read.
01:57 A couple of these are from @HuskGuys on Twitter.
02:00 One of them is from @TalkHuskers.
02:01 Okay, we'll put them up on the screen so you can see.
02:03 This first one from @HuskGuys.
02:04 "Saturday features the Huskers' 114th ranked scoring offense averaging 18.9 points per game
02:09 versus Wisconsin's 20th ranked scoring defense giving up an average of 19.6 points per game.
02:14 And Sconies, as he puts it, 95th ranked offense averaging 22.2 points per game versus Nebraska's
02:18 13th ranked scoring defense averaging 18.2 points per game.
02:22 And if Braylon Allen, one of Wisconsin's running backs, is out, both teams will be starting
02:26 their third or fourth string running backs."
02:29 Alright, this next one is from @TalkHuskers.
02:31 "A win Saturday means Nebraska's first win over Wisconsin since 2012.
02:36 Of course, bowl eligibility, but over three conference wins for the first time since 2016."
02:41 This next tweet, back to @HuskGuys.
02:43 Give all these fine folks a follow on Twitter.
02:46 Trigger warning, he says, "Huskers receivers have combined through 10 games for 106 receptions,
02:52 1,273 receiving yards, 12.01 yards per reception at ATDs.
02:56 Now former Husker quarterback Luke McCaffrey, who didn't want to play wide receiver, now
03:01 a wide receiver for Rice, 51 receptions on the year, 768 yards received, 15.1 yards per
03:07 reception, he's averaging in 10 touchdowns."
03:09 Ouch.
03:10 But this will make you feel a little bit better if you derive joy from other people's pain.
03:14 Tennessee, this is just completely random, but @CollegeFootballHome on Twitter, give him
03:18 a follow.
03:19 "Tennessee was 0-39 vs. top 10 teams from 2007-2022."
03:24 I don't know about you, but I feel kind of better after that.
03:26 Nebraska, "It's 4-12 all-time against Wisconsin."
03:29 This is from @HuskersGameday on Twitter.
03:31 "They haven't won a Madison since October 8, 1966.
03:35 In that game, NU linebacker Barry Alvarez, future Wisconsin coach, AD and the like, but
03:40 in that game, Nebraska linebacker Barry Alvarez had an interception and all-American Wayne
03:45 Malin blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown."
03:49 Alright, ladies and gentlemen, a couple of stats I found on my own, I did do a little
03:52 bit of work on my own.
03:53 Wisconsin's rushing offense, that vaunted Wisconsin rushing offense, and yes, they're
03:57 trying to spread it out under new coach Luke Fickle, only they're only ranked 72nd in the
04:02 country.
04:03 That's the lowest rushing offense ranking I've seen them have since Nebraska's joined
04:08 the Big Ten.
04:09 Alright, kickoff returns.
04:10 Nebraska has an advantage when we return the ball.
04:13 We're averaging 22.29 yards per kickoff return.
04:17 Wisconsin, 20.56.
04:18 Now, do me a favor, don't look at the punt return comparison, though.
04:21 Don't look at that.
04:23 Alright, the Badgers have dealt with injury issues all year, just like Nebraska on offense.
04:28 Their quarterback, running back, multiple wide receivers have been hurt and out a lot
04:33 this year for Wisconsin, so they've been battling with injuries just like the Huskers.
04:39 Now Wisconsin opened up as a 7 point favorite, then it was 4.5, at the moment we're recording
04:43 it, now it's 5.5.
04:45 The over/under on this game is 36.5 points, by the way, way too high in my opinion.
04:49 Alright girls, you ready to hear the keys to the game?
04:52 Who do you think's gonna win?
04:54 Nebraska!
04:55 I like it.
04:56 Who do you think's gonna win?
04:57 Nebraska.
04:58 I like it.
04:59 Raising them right.
05:00 I'm brainwashing.
05:01 Alright, I got 5 keys to this game.
05:03 It varies every week based on what that game in particular needs in my opinion.
05:06 Number one, win the turnover battle.
05:09 Did you think it was gonna be anything else?
05:11 Number two, win the turnover battle.
05:13 Number three, win the fricking turnover battle.
05:16 One through three.
05:19 The biggest key to real estate is location, location, location.
05:21 The biggest key to Nebraska winning this football game is win the turnover battle, win the turnover
05:24 battle, win the fricking turnover battle.
05:26 Number four, who wants it more?
05:28 I'm just gonna call it, and I'm not going out on a limb when I say that this is going
05:32 to be an ugly, low scoring, two bad injury riddled offenses versus two pretty good defenses
05:39 type of game.
05:40 Wisconsin looks like they may have quit on this season.
05:44 Who wants it more?
05:46 Alright, last but certainly not least, when you get in the red zone, who's gonna score
05:51 a touchdown versus a field goal?
05:54 Nebraska's offense ranks 127th in the country in red zone efficiency, and Tristan Alvano
05:59 may play a big role in this particular game.
06:03 Now again, this was the toughest game for me to pick all year long.
06:07 I opened up picking Wisconsin, then Nebraska, then Wisconsin, then Nebraska.
06:10 I went back and forth.
06:11 Alright, now I did beat Jacob last week, which puts me ahead of him five to four on our prediction
06:18 battle this year.
06:19 Addison's sitting there with one.
06:21 She only made one prediction this year, and she beat me on it.
06:23 So it's five-four, and Addison with one.
06:25 Now, what does that say right there, Desi?
06:27 Nebraska, this is Jacob's prediction.
06:29 What's his score?
06:30 Now he told me Wisconsin's going to have, and what is this, Desi?
06:36 He predicts Wisconsin will win 17-13 because, and I quote, "Nebraska will have too many
06:41 turnovers," end quote.
06:42 Throwing my son under the bus, alright.
06:44 Nebraska, my prediction, Nebraska's gonna have what?
06:47 13.
06:48 What's Wisconsin gonna have?
06:50 10.
06:51 That's right.
06:52 I ended up with Nebraska edging out Wisconsin.
06:57 Wisconsin got dominated by Northwestern.
06:59 We're due, aren't we?
07:00 We're due to get a win, aren't we?
07:02 Alright, ladies and gentlemen, stay tuned right after this for the interview with Nuri
07:07 Nwili, okay?
07:09 And real quick, this show is brought to you by DPS Concrete Construction, your local concrete
07:14 experts.
07:15 Check them out at dpsconstruction.net.
07:17 Thank you for joining me, Kota Bear.
07:19 Yeah.
07:20 Thanks for joining me, Des.
07:21 Until next time, Husker Nation, Go Big Red, and always remember, throw the bows.
07:29 And we're back, ladies and gentlemen, part two of this week's mega show, and I have a
07:33 special guest today, a starting offensive guard for your Nebraska Cornhuskers, Mr. Nuri Nwili.
07:39 How you doing, my friend?
07:40 Doing pretty good.
07:41 How about you?
07:42 Dude, life is good, and when you guys become belligerent, it'll become even better, but
07:47 we'll get to that.
07:48 Alright, real quick, because you've got quite the interesting story here.
07:52 What was it like growing up and playing football over in Germany before you came to the States?
07:57 Very different.
07:58 You know, Germany used to be known, I mean, obviously known for soccer more, so I played
08:04 soccer most of my life, but going into football, I heard from the NFL Europe in those days,
08:11 and my stepdad was a huge fan of the Frankfurt Galaxy, so I was a big fan of those times.
08:18 But learning through him and getting to know the NFL was the way for me to get into the
08:23 sport, and eventually he just kind of told me, "Hey," you know, "I started trying a bunch
08:28 of different sports," and he was like, "Try football.
08:29 See how it goes."
08:30 And that's kind of how that started.
08:31 Now, how's it kind of different over in Germany when it comes to football versus how it's
08:38 played here in the U.S., or the approach to playing it, the culture behind it?
08:42 Like, you go to Texas, it's like a freaking religion.
08:44 You go to the Northeast, it's more basketball-oriented.
08:47 So how does it compare in Germany to here in the U.S.?
08:49 I mean, not at all.
08:52 Most of the coaches for the youth teams are fans that have possibly never played themselves,
09:00 some that play themselves.
09:03 But the coaching is different.
09:06 Everybody plays multiple positions.
09:07 It's not like here, where an O-liner possibly plays D-line or something like that, or a
09:13 receiver plays corner.
09:14 I play pretty much all positions except quarterback and corner.
09:15 There's one game where we straight up just cut down a little field in the woods, pretty
09:27 much, and made a field ourselves so we could play like half a game.
09:32 That's awesome.
09:33 So, yeah, it's very different.
09:34 Very, very different here.
09:36 It's the football field of dreams.
09:37 I love it.
09:38 All right, man.
09:39 Exactly.
09:40 So you come over from Germany.
09:42 You've got an interesting route even since you started playing college ball.
09:45 You started your career at Colorado State.
09:48 You were the first true freshman offensive lineman to start at Colorado State since 1996.
09:53 And then, I'm curious, because what made you choose to leave CSU at that point and come
09:59 over to Nebraska and walk on for the Huskers?
10:02 Well, one of the big reasons was my coaches at CSU all got fired.
10:09 So I was kind of sad.
10:12 I wanted to follow my O-line coach, Dave Johnson, to his next school.
10:19 But he told me to go higher.
10:21 He went to a D2 school to be closer to his grandchildren.
10:25 He was the one that told me, "You're good enough to be able to play in a different school
10:29 and at the same level or higher."
10:31 And so I kind of put my feelers out there.
10:35 And at the time, Coach Frost and Coach Gee, they had obviously recruited me a little bit
10:39 out of high school.
10:41 But just knowing that I have a host family here, I was a little homesick at the time
10:46 too.
10:47 Being four and a half thousand miles away from your family, it sucks.
10:52 But being able to come back here and be close to my host family and be with my host brothers
10:57 on the team now too, that was the decision.
11:02 What's it like playing for your offensive line coach, Donovan Raiola, and what are some
11:14 of the things that he really tries to emphasize with you guys?
11:17 One of the biggest things is we do everything together.
11:21 There's nobody that looks different.
11:24 There's nobody that acts different.
11:27 We all do everything together.
11:29 As you would know, the O-line is the only position where all five have to be on the
11:34 same level.
11:37 So it really emphasizes that one set of eyes, if you do everything together, you'll be able
11:44 to play with everybody on the field.
11:46 And so that's probably the biggest thing that had changed from old staff to new staff.
11:52 We came into meetings all together at the same time.
11:54 We were 10 minutes early to everything.
11:57 That was probably his biggest emphasis.
12:00 And then following that, being able to play with, one of the things that he always says
12:06 is playing with Nebraska pride, playing with your own pride, and playing with the O-line
12:10 pride.
12:11 It was obviously very, very different from previous staffs that I was with, but he put
12:17 such an emphasis to it that it was easy to follow, if that makes sense.
12:21 What's it been like this year?
12:22 Because there's been all sorts of just crazy injuries on the offense as a whole, but particularly
12:26 the offensive line.
12:27 At one point, you were injured.
12:28 At one point, we were missing 60% of the original starting offensive line.
12:33 Now you came back a couple weeks early.
12:35 Now even the left side of the line looks completely different right now than it did early on in
12:39 the year.
12:40 What's it been like in the offensive line room as you guys just worked together as a
12:44 group with all these injuries, trying to make it through this season and trying to continue
12:48 to get better and play well?
12:49 With what I just said, you know, it's like being such a cohesive group and being able
12:50 to be together all the time.
12:51 It doesn't really matter who you play with.
12:56 You already have that same connection because everybody's treated the same and everybody's
13:04 on an equal level, if that makes sense.
13:07 Everybody that comes in and plays and gets the refs has the same connection with the
13:13 person that's next to them.
13:15 So it's not a drop off, if that makes sense.
13:20 I think it sucks, you know, Turner and Pipe being out.
13:24 I'm hurting for Pipe the most.
13:26 He's my best friend and seeing him still so cheerful and still so up and going, it just
13:35 hurts.
13:36 It's definitely hard because you never expect this many people to get injured.
13:42 And also on top of that, injured for the whole season.
13:47 But at the end of the day, the next man up in hell, you've got to be able to have the
13:53 next guy not be a drop off in skill.
13:56 And so I think they did a good job at that.
13:59 So my next question is going to go to the quarterback position.
14:02 Obviously, it was three guys playing last weekend.
14:05 You've had different guys start throughout the year.
14:06 There's been injuries at the quarterback position.
14:10 You know, as an offensive lineman and an offense as a whole, what's the offense's approach
14:14 when you've got different guys going through the quarterback position?
14:18 And honestly, the turnovers have to be frustrating as well.
14:21 I know it's a learning and growing process, I get that.
14:24 But what's your guys' approach as an offense when there's a different quarterback back
14:27 there or there's a turnover that's happened which nobody wants but it can be frustrating?
14:31 What's your guys' approach through that whole process right now?
14:33 For the O-line, obviously our job is to protect people.
14:41 And so I think for us, the biggest thing that we do is making sure that no matter who's
14:47 behind us, that they all are confident.
14:49 They're confident in us, that they have trust in us, that they know that we're confident
14:55 in them, we have trust in them, and that they know that no matter what happens, we're going
15:01 to have their back.
15:02 And personally, I don't care who's behind us.
15:06 I trust all of them.
15:07 They're all amazing QBs, they're all amazing humans, and they all work so hard at trying
15:15 to make it happen, if that makes sense.
15:18 Like I said, I don't care who's behind us.
15:22 They're all hard workers that I trust fully, that they know what to do.
15:27 And like you said, turnovers suck for sure, but they happen and we just got to get past
15:35 it.
15:36 And like you said, another learning set.
15:39 Alright, last question.
15:41 You guys are on the precipice, the cusp of becoming bowl eligible.
15:44 What would it mean to you guys to become bowl eligible and make it to a bowl game this year?
15:49 It would be amazing, for sure.
15:51 You know, having been here now four years, not having had that opportunity, and I know
15:56 other guys that have been here five years that have not had this opportunity, it would
16:03 be amazing for sure.
16:04 But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what happens in three weeks, two weeks, it
16:08 matters what happens this week.
16:10 And so the mentality is just one and one, win the next rep, and then we'll see where
16:15 we go from there.
16:16 That makes perfect sense.
16:17 I want to thank you for joining me.
16:19 Good luck this Saturday versus Wisconsin.
16:21 I got a couple questions for the fine folks at home.
16:24 As always, hit me up.
16:25 Let me know your biggest key to the Huskers beating the Badgers this Saturday.
16:29 What is your score prediction?
16:30 Let me know in the comments below.
16:32 And the offensive line play has seemingly improved throughout this year.
16:36 Let me know your thoughts on that in the comments below, ladies and gentlemen.
16:39 Do me a favor, hit that subscribe button if you want more Carriker Chronicles content.
16:43 Until next time, Go Big Red and always remember to THROW THE BONES!
16:46 (mimics engine revving)
